When I've had users try this out, they immediately contort their wrists into positions almost guaranteed to cause injury. The one I have also had an orb snap off after very little use. Avoid!!

Yeah, I'm surprised, because I thought everyone's voice sounded deeper in their head (makes sense, no, coming from inside the deep cavern?). I'm horrified by the external sound of my own voice, which is unnervingly high: I have described it before as "the squeak of cabbage".
Steve, your voice sounds to me on the slightly deep side of mid-range, and soft -- not in volume -- not sharp on the consonants.

I dunno, I've always been a small-c conservative, so I have to say I *like* Tannock.net. But then ... I have bantjes.com, so you can see I need to make some kind of defense for the old "name it after myself" default.
I can certainly see your point though about the strangers, when you become the icon of bloggism that is "whatdoiknow", "tesxtism", "dooce" or "alistapart" ... except in the case of the latter i have trouble remembering the name and think of his site and him as Zeldman(.com).

BTW the background image in the comments is tres cool, but making it a little difficult to read.

I think there's even worse lying beneath the surface of those ads. At the risk of getting all uber-feministy, have you noticed that the little helper products are all male? So despite everything we've been through, here in the 21st century there is still a Given that women spend their days cleaning up after hubby and kids, that her priorities are with spots and germs, that she's either a little simple or hopped up on prescription drugs, and her persistent fantasies are that she will get a little guidance from her male helper, the cleaning product. Gee, Betty doesn't know what to do about those spots, but big strong Mr. Clean has all the answers, and he can help her not only do her duty, but enjoy doing it as well.

The thing is that advertisers don't consciouly think about this when they're writing the ads. They just make assumptions, the same way they would to make the sky blue or give the archetypal home a pointed roof. That's why it's so insidious: they don't think about it and most of the time, neither does the public.

Now I'm going to get really ranty, and say that this is what really pisses me off about the failure of the feminist movement, and in many ways it did fail. The things you can say and represent about women would be considered completely reprehensible if said or represented about a black person. Imagine those ads where the woman is always black and the helper is always white. I think people would fuckin notice. I'm not saying that there's not still a huge amount of colour discrimination in the entertainment media, just that there's way more outdated assumptions made about women and people just accept it.

I'm with Lauren on this one. I definitely think its a screen resolution issue. If the text is aliased, the serifs just become blurry. I've seen a couple of decent serif'd pixel fonts ... including an italic one that's gorgeous (why can i not remember where i saw it, dammit?). This will probably change as screen resolutions get higher.

Having said that, I've never really bought the various "easier to read" theories for serif/sans anyway.

I, like you, use CuteFTP on the PC, and I've always liked it well enough (though I haven't been able to find a place where i can set um ... that setting we need to send files to our blogs - secureserver? or what is it , you-know). On the Mac I use Transmit, and I quite like it. It is soo super simple (at first i thought it was too simple, then i found a bunch of controls).
That's my survey answer, but sorry, can't provide helpful advice.

I too think about the perfect position for sleeping, but not necessarily as a method to get to sleep. Often i will find myself in the near-perfect position, except for ... oh that foot! Or worse, I'll think "Wow! This is is the perfect position!" and a moment later Dante will say "can you take your foot off my ankle?" and it's ruined. And unfortunately I find that the more I think about it the less perfect it becomes.

Rod doesn't seem to agree with me about the sound, but to me it really was good. The only time I had difficulty with it was when he was speaking, so you may be right about the mid-range; though I had no trouble at all with the lyrics.

In retrospect those behind-the stage seats didn't look so bad to me ... certainly not on the first level anyway, though high up would've been a drag.

man o man steve you asked for it: "teenage girls, hot" they'll all be coming to you (Not to mention "teenage girls, hot AND Preston Manning"--the mind boggles).

Before you apply your billing rate to your life, you must first make a number of necessary capitalistic adjustments. You should know, or figure out how much it costs you to maintain your business: rent, heat, phones, leases, etc. (At d 4 or 5 years ago it was $10-$15/hr per person) Subtract that. Then figure out how many hours you work that you are actually billable. So if you've been spending say half your time on pencilneck stuff, adjust accordingly. Then, before you go putting a price on things like sleep and personal time, remember (or roughly calculate) how much in burnout, lethargy and mistakes a sleepy, grumpy you will cost your company.

Once you have a true evaluation of your hourly worth to yourself, forget about it and enjoy your life, teenage girls or no teenage girls.

I'm totally with you on this, Steve. I have exactly the same reactions as you -- and I would just toss the RFP, crazy as that may seem. The funny thing is that my aversion is reserved for Christians. I mean, I wouldn't be into being proseletized to by anyone (as Tim's sticker says, "Kill all fanatics"), but it's only with Christianity that the mere fact of a person's religiousity would put me off them. Devout Jew? OK, kinda old-fashioned; Muslim? Usually either cultural or political; Hare Krishna? Weird but basically harmless; Bhuddist? Best religion in the world for it's leave-others-alone quality. But Christian? Yikes, get me outta here.

Having said that I did once know a very nice, genuine Baptist who I actually got along with. I did view her as a bit of an unknown specimen in a petri dish, but while we worked together, we developed an odd friendship and understanding of our polar oppositeness.

That's interesting, because one of my fastest computers ever was Fluffy, my old P3 650 at digitopolis (which is the one that was skunking my Mac G4 in time trials). Maybe there's just something efficient about the P3.

Hi Steve,
You have some Mac/OSX problems. It's not really displaying right in 3 browsers ... mostly to do with the aforementioned when the window isn't set wide enough. I'll send you some screen caps.

I like the new skool, particularly in Safari, where it's bitchin'.

And I love the show/hide menu features, though those links could use a little mousover action.

BTW, the site took ages to load the first time in all 3 browsers. Looking for a javasript file somewhere? I dunno, but it took so long in Safari I thought it wasn't going to load at all.

My brother recently took my mum to England and he was driving her around the countryside. That's one of the great things about grey, it goes with everything, even itself.

And I don't completely buy the black thing. I hate to say it but it's a bit more complicated. I think the casual blacks are safer: reddish-black Tshirt with greenish-black jeans is not a big deal, but the same 2 shades in suit jacket and dress pants would be a definite fashion faux pas.

Yep, works great on a Mac (and my GOD what a beautiful nav!). My only complaint with The-browser-that-was-Mozilla-and-is-now-called-something-else is that for me, it frequently chokes on Flash. Ah well, I guess that's why i use 3 browsers--not working in that one? Try this one!

My iTunes has finally got tired of Jethro Tull's Aqualung but has taken a penchant for Vangelis's "Friends of Mr. Cairo" (which I now have to stop it from playing), Indian music (which is a miniscule percentage of my playlist), and on the positive side, Boards of Canada. It's a mystery.

Aquí he estado "curucuteando" en tu blog. Tienes una escritura versátil; he leido posts irónicos, cómicos... hay para todos los gustos!

Me gustó tu categorización de la población estudiantil... claro que existen "especimenes" que entrarían en un grupo misceláneo o mixto jajaja, pero en general he estudiado con al menos uno de cada división que describes aquí :P

Espero mi visita quite esa sensación de "estar picado" jaja. Gracias mil por cada visita y comentario en mi blog!
