If you have a 3G phone, turn the 3G off when not in use. I have a shortcut for that on my SE K850i. You only need it for web surfing, and it sucks the juice out of the battery pretty quick.

One of the nice things about P&C is that they do build on their characters - it's a shame you don't like some of their earlier books (clearly you think they've gotten better) because, for instance, in The Relic, they talk about Pendergast's wife, IIRC.

So when you get to the part where he deals with a woman a certain way (trying to avoid spoilers) in a later book, that might be in the back of your mind. Know what I mean?

When you get to the "Pendergast Trilogy" ("Brimstone," "Dance with Death" and the forthcoming one, "The Book of the Dead") there's a lot more about his background, but he's mysterious enough you probably won't miss much, just the little things.

You're right that you can enjoy the books on their own quite easily - particularly "Still Life with Crows," I thought, and much less so "Relic" and "Reliquary," the first two, which really are a pre- and sequel.

I could go on about these guys for days, and probably have.

I noticed Safari (the Mac browser I use) started having an odd window when I post - it's different from before, like missing some of the features - but they're there on IE. So maybe they did change something.

You may have posted something too wide. That happened when I put up the results of some survey I took - it bumped my right-rail down below the text and threw everything off. I wish I knew more about tech, I could explain better, but I just messed around with the coding on the survey results and made them narrower. Maybe it's those pics?
