I thought it was a painting!

I really do have to pick your brain about photography.

in Who do you blog for? on odd time signatures
Great post - and an opportunity to let you know how much I enjoy your daily photos!

I definitely blog for me -- (hence this week's boring rants about preparing for Passover) but am always pleased when something that is on my mind strikes a chord with my four readers. There are topics that I know will get more traffic (i.e., celebrity sightings and Hollywood anecdotes) and I do write about those when they come up -- but I don't think I do it in a manner that is inorganic with my theme, which is being a mom and part of a family in Southern California.

With everything you've got going, anesthesia from the oral surgery may be your only opportunity to get some rest!

I hope everything goes smoothly.

in Good Enough or Settling? on odd time signatures
Interesting topic - I had a very similar discussion this morning with my daughter's teacher (she's in 4th grade). Report cards were issued on Friday, and she's heard an earful from parents who expected their kids to get all A's. These are the same parents who don't seem to care that their kids don't complete their homework assignments. Go figure.

Thank you. I think most parents have the attitude that "oh, at least it's not drugs" and need to be reminded that alcohol is a plentiful, legal drug that can be just as dangerous.

Oh, that just SUCKS.

I can't tell you how sick I am of stupid school administrative nonsense. Over the last several weeks, I've been obsessing over the fact that daughter goes into fifth grade in September and that I will soon need to make a decision about which middle school she'll attend the following year. And given her current schedule and academic demands, I'm not pleased with my options.

I'm thisclose to sending away for homeschool information.

I had read in the LA Times that the family had been concerned about him, so was saddened when I read the obit last week while I was in the UK. The only personal connection I had with them was several years ago, when I'd sprained an ankle and was examined by one of them (Bob?) at Valley Presbyterian Hospital, who had gone into the medical field.

in Crimes and Misdemeanors, Part III on odd time signatures
You really should work these posts into an article for the L.A. Times or some similar publication.

I am hopeful that the fact that I have always used both maiden and married name keeps me from getting into the same pickle as you. The only time I've had a problem is when I've tried to fly from one European country to another and they questioned the fact that my passport is in my maiden name (because I never changed it with SSA) and my driver's license has both names hyphenated (as does my voting registration). Oh, and when I got my job with LAUSD and they forced me to go by the name on my Social Security card, so while I'm known at the school as "Mrs. Mills" all official correspondence (including payroll) is addressed to "Ms. Schwartz."

I hate bureaucracy.

OHMIGAWD. I can't believe this -- especially as it's something that could easily happen to me (having never even attempted to change my name with Social Security! I'm an AKA -- I still use my maiden name, my married name, both names on my drivers' license, and it's hyphenated on the election rolls. YIKES.)

Looking forward to reading your next installment.

You're right -- an awful lot about babies and toddlers, but not a heckuva lot about older kids. You should pitch yourself over there to write about mothering teens!

I laughed out loud at your description of the computer salesman who was too dumb to understand what he needed to do to make the sale! (You are so right about their attitude towards female customers. I sort of understood that kind of smugness 20 years ago when so few of us were using computers at home -- but now? It's insulting.)

Congrats on your new toy!

I'm so sorry about your grandmother. You're right - even though you were blessed to have her so long, 47 years is not enough. I lost my 90-year-old grandpa just after 9/11, and I still miss him every day.

Dealing with four or five areas of focus at once is a symptom of ADHD? I thought that was just modern life. If so, a lot more of us are ADHD than we think!
