I share your prayer, Paul. It is so fortunate that this was not an even bigger disaster!

in Climate changes in blogosphere on But A Poor Reflection
I live in Tennessee (central/southeastern US). It's a bit cold here but we escaped the ice storm that hit just north and west of us. Our winters are usually pretty dry and range from bearably cool to well below freezing. We rarely see snow. This year is pretty typical.
I am concerned about climate change. While I believe that cyclical global climate change can be a natural thing, the scientific evidence is overwheming that our actions have influenced and continue to influence the global climate negatively. Governments should put into place responsible programs to limit pollution and greenhouse gas emmissions but the problem will not be solved until individuals behave responsibly toward the environment and take our stewardship role seriously.

in More Songsmith fun on Lake Neuron
The synth-pop version of Hotel Cali does.not.compute. Not at all. Not even close. I do agree that the songsmith revision of NGGYU is a marginal improvement of the original - as if that's saying anything - but I would hardly call it hard rock. It sounds more like some twisted industrial pop hybrid. But I'm definitely checking out MS songsmith!

That's strangely exciting. How have I not heard of such things? In all honesty, though, I rather like the White Wedding version...

in A classic blunder on Lake Neuron
You know, I don't care much for either restaurant. I actually like LJS better than either of them, though Red Lobster has items that the fast food places just can't offer. Captain D's comparing itself to Red Lobster is a conceit, granted, but I agree that RL comes out of this looking pretty foolish...

in Making History By Repeating It on But A Poor Reflection
I agree, Paul, #4 is the only option. It is heartbreaking, what's going on over there. I thoroughly despise what Hamas has done (and is doing) but Israel's response is even more evil. The problem is that Israel's response is disproportionately violent considering their government's responsibility in the making of this mess and their greater strength and resources. Furthermore, the amount of civilian casualties and psychological suffering heaped upon the innocent non militant Gazans is obscene. It bewilders me that some Christians support the modern Israel no matter what while disregarding the essence of the Jesus message. Perhaps a better question to ask is what would Jesus have done?

I was disappointed by this news as well. It was such a great story but the truth would have been compelling in it's own right.

in Memories of Opryland on Lake Neuron
Me too John, me too. When we were at Opry Mills and the Opry house back in October, Stacie and I were talking about Opryland and where things were and such. It's strange to be in the physical place with Opryland not there!

If you walk from the Opry Mills parking lot to the hotel, you pass
some faux rock formations that used to be part of the Grizzly River
Rampage, and through this gateway that used to be the back gate to the
theme park for hotel visitors. That, for me, is the strangest.

in When the chips are down on Lake Neuron
I'm not so crazy about banana chips but a naturally dehaydrated apple chip (or 20) is hard to beat for a healthy snack!

Maybe Darwin & Calvin are discussing these issues right now somewhere in God's Universe...
