Krista, I'm not averse to any such association - is there such a thing?

what negative comments were you thinking of?

I haven't stopped hearing "thank you", "well done" and "more" - so maybe I was blind to them, but I don't recall anything negative at all.

:)

As for the NA WBC - if you need any marriage counselling ...

the tent is a permanent feature, a place to sit at lunch if it is wet. I have often seen a jazz band playing there at lunch too

It isn't specifically for events, but it is clever to do so under cover

Wow! That's cynical even for Mr Pinotage! :)

The point is not to take away jobs, but to skip an intermediary step of trying to guess what consumers want and adjust over time, but to ask them directly. It is a massive version of a focus group.

Consultants don't do this stuff. Consultants wouldn't know something properly "social" if it bit them on the ass. This is a grassroots movement.

As for Crushpad, I'm doing it to experience the process. It is fun to try things, and learn something. I don't need to get paid for everything I do. Do you get paid to blog?

I'd hope you could see them in a more positive light

thanks Joe

yes, ANY affiliate system works too, although I would prefer something that would work for Europeans as well, and I don't think Jill is ready to deal with European customers quite yet!

Totally agree with the last point - am wondering if non traffic-based ideas exist out there

you are right, of course

I would have loved to include loads more, such as Confessions of a Wino, and even the more controversial Intoxicating Prose.

I guess I was thinking of examples for most of the categories I mentioned in the article. Jamie was the journalist exploring other ideas, but I suppose I could have pointed to Andrew Jefford or Simon Woods instead, but I did want to include a journo, and one that would ring bells.

Hopefully thousands of visitors will now come to my site and find the "full" UK wine blog list, but who knows.

Any suggestions on how to follow this up? We could offer to put together a series of articles based on this!

Jealous? :)

Well, it is more that Jamie is a well respected person, one of the very few of us who would be recognised in the trade as a blogger and, as it happens, a pretty good blogger

no yet, and unfortunately jamie Coggans has now left. I will follow up to see if we can have a regular update on blogs, and maybe we can all chip in from time to time?

no problem about the link!

Thanks Erik.

Somehow I have managed to mislay your advertising contract.

Would you like me to invoice you for this advertising on a pay-per-click model, or will this be a monthly subscription?

On a more serious note, I am more than happy to visit the sites of people who comment here, but etiquette does suggest you might want to be participating in the discussion (the conversation) rather than simply leaving your URL around. That looks, smells and feels like spamming I'm afraid.

I shall leave this up only so I can make this point, but in future, I suggest you might like to take a more community approach or risk all that effort being for nothing.

I'm saving those photos for another time!

At least until you are back at your desk and able to defend yourself from any accusations

Thanks Philip - as I do say, I am not against flash in, and of, itself. If it is well used, it could add value (and I'm sure yours does) but those who use it almost always use it for the wrong reasons

I love useful stuff too - but as I say, too often those who choose flash do so for the wrong reasons - after all, funky navigation does not really require flash.

Flash can make a useful tool for fun parts of a site, but these parts are more like watching a film. You see them once, like or dislike, and never visit again. Surely a site for a brand can do better than that?

still think its cool packaging (for a can)

yes, it would have to be consumed quickly, but most wine is consumed within 24 hours of being bought, never mind 24 months.

The issue would be to make people want to buy cans so it didn't sit on the shelf at the store for too long.

It is still a can after all, so I still would have to taste the wine to see that it was properly inert as a container.

I still think, as cans go, something like this is pretty cool

yeah! my kind of compromise too

in wineconversation.com » Maintenance Mode on The Wine Conversation
well, I object to it because it presumes that rose is not a category or wine in its own right, and is merely a way of avoiding a decision between the two 'real' categories.

If you actively choose a rose, because that is what will likely be what you want to drink (as I regularly do) then great! But it isn't just a poor imitation of the other two.

That is what I object to in terms of "compromise".

Was it any good?

I will certainly check out your suggestions and look forward to adding a Pinotage to the mix
