Particularly for library code that is intended to be used everywhere. Even though I'm still stinging a little about losing VCL.Net.

Another example; TStringBuilder.Replace is about 3 times faster than StringReplace.

Re: Delphi Vs Visual Basic

This looks like a very old list.

I don't want to beat up on classic VB (as opposed to VB.Net), I would be surprised if anyone would use it for new development. It hasn't been in active development since VB6 and several (almost all) of the advantages you list for it also apply to Delphi, and VB is limited in the kinds of COM objects it can produce.

I don't have problems with Java or C#, either. I have used (and like) both and continue to use C#. I would hesitate to use either of these for client side applications because of increased startup time, GUI performance, additional memory usage and the requirement that an additional runtime library be installed on all machines. These are less of an issue for server side applications, and ASP.Net is one place where I think .Net really shines.

Unless I have a good reason to do otherwise, native Delphi is my first choice for development projects. If .Net makes sense, I can choose between C# and Delphi Prism. If I need native 64 bit or cross platform support, Free pascal/Lazarus have these now, and Embarcadero is working on native Linux, Mac and Win64 support.

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/305016/what-...
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1446750/asso...
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1149238/delp...
