in What is your favorite cultural activity that doesn’t cost money? on Carrie and Danielle
... how could I forget our national public radio, the CBC. Concerts, interviews, artists galore. I ADORE the 'free' public radio and would gladly pay more tax dollars for even more content.

in What is your favorite cultural activity that doesn’t cost money? on Carrie and Danielle
The summertime night market in Chinatown; visiting old Italian grocery stores like Tosi's on Main Street and Bosa's on Victoria Drive (not the new one); the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival in the autumn.....

in What would you do if you weren’t afraid on Carrie and Danielle
-pack up my family and spend a good chunk of time 'in the south' doing some int'l development work, ideally a rockin' social justice gig with the the Catholic Church
-last night in bed I thought... I want to go to law school.
-move to rural Ireland and raise sheep, grow vegetable, produce wool and run and inn. Excpet, I actually want a franchise of inns.
-sing and act on stage

Powerful, illuminiating question. Thank you C&D.

in Lucia Frangione asks: What glass ceiling do you want to shatter? on Carrie and Danielle
I want the power, the perils and the critical importance of mothering to hit the news headlines regularly . I want financial gain for my role as full-time working at home caring for my child and family and managing our home and life.

in How are you feeling about the U.S. economic situation? on Carrie and Danielle
I'm truly sorry so many people are suffering. I feel anger that people with 'in the know' and 'in power' have built and maintained a financial house on such shaky ground and with so little regulation as I understand the situation. I feel frustrated that we as local, national, and global citizens have handed over so much power and 'allowed' our leaders to led without accountability. I believe this kind of correction is necessary and I actually worry that too much is being done to prevent an even deeper crisis from emerging. Too much avoidance of consequence and conflict in our world.

in Pearl Matteson asks: What have you stopped being curious about? And…what would be possible if you let yourself get curious again? on Carrie and Danielle
I've stopped being so curious about why other mamas do things the way they do. I've gotten more curious about about why I do what I do and why is it that I get pulled out of using my values, gut, heart to guide me and validate my choices. I want to follow my curiousity around what will facilitate me being more self-referencing.

in What’s something you can NOT do today that will simplify your life? on Carrie and Danielle
Not dilulte my energy by working on too many tasks at once. I'm a super duper multit-tasker but I'm observing that I like the experience of more focus and the experience of completion.

Emily-Sarah Ditto to this! Sometimes I'm being "super productive" with several things ... but not truly participating any of them as though almost on auto-pilot. So yes, experience more focus and savor the process of the task (and not just the completion).

in Mary Jaksch asks: What’s your best way of coping with stress? on Carrie and Danielle
One of my ways of coping with uber stress to encourage myself to dive into the emotions and allow what I know call, "the cry before the calm".

Sabrina I like this. I've done this too.

in Treasure Hunting: Style, Quality and Conscious Consumerism on Carrie and Danielle
Hi,
I loved this. It totally inspires me to get myself to a thrift store. I too would love to know which store this was. I'm never really intentional when I go and often come out empty handed. I also appreciate the reminder about timeless quality. Merci!

EUREKA!!! The power of words, a name, a concept. Thank you Sarah and C&D for bringing SLOW FAMILY to my consciousness. It's what we've been moving toward and wanting more of. It helps me enormously to have this lable, name, umbrella, shingle.... why is that? .

Home manager... I like that. Thx to C&D for this discovery. I too am at home, with a toddler and hoping to grow our family. I'm slowly connecting with other mamas whose core focus is the care of their kids, homes and family. I've always wanted this yet at am surprised at how slowly I'm sinking into it my role and really loving it for the special time in life it is and how fabulous it is that I'm living it. Perhaps it has to do with getting on the MamaTrain (ooooo, I like that too) a little later in life. Thanks for the inspiration Tsh. I'll be checking our your site some more and am going to create an inspiration board!

I love this piece. Thank you Rick. I feel inspired.
Whether its sustainability issues or parenting, I've been noticing my sense of struggle in shifting gears, doing it differently, running my own course yada yada. Your article spurred me to realize that I find it hard when I look for the world to mirror my choices. Of course there are many folks making the 'shift' but I don't see them when I look around, pick up the paper, listen to the news. I feel myself breathing easier when I look inside and self-reference vs seek external validation. OK, I feel better now.

I need a kleenex. Thank you Lucia for this great story. Funny, beautiful, raw. I have an almost 2 year old little girl and I too lost a baby that would have been born this month... and then another 6 months later. Here's hoping "Third time lucky" as it was with marriage proposals.

in Social Eater. Fast Eater. How to Be a Healthy Eater. on Carrie and Danielle
This is great Carrie. Sometimes all I want to do is prepare, cook and eat food slowly. I get resentful that such an important activity feels crammed in my day.

I've started doing the one serving and notice a difference in how I feel. My next area of attention is around how much I cook. Usually way more than needed for a meal. This is grand in someways b/c leftover are the perfect lunch for my daughter and I but it also creates the temptation for 2nds or 3rds! I see the connection to my childhood where there was always an overabundance of food . I think there was some unconscious fear based hoarding going on. My folks both were kids in wartime Europe.
