I grew up with Jerry and have recently learned of his arrest. I knew his family personally (his father, Lucky was one of my teachers) and although I have not been in contact with them for years, I had always known them to be very decent people. I am not here to pass judgement about how he runs his church or about the people who supported him in court. I am here to voice my concern about the outcome of the proceedings. For one, I am bothered to learn that his actions were premeditated and that he actively pursued meeting this girl. This was not a chance meeting under circumstances over which he had no control. I am bothered to learn of his offer of drugs to further pursuade the girl to meet him. I am bothered to realize that this probably was not the only child with whom he might have had internet contact and possibly physical contact but only the one instance where he was caught. Further aggravating is the knowledge of cases where innocent people are on the registered sex offenders list and have received much stiffer penalties for being in love (i.e. an 18 year old boy and a 15 year old girl, Ft. Lupton). Personally I dont have a closet empty of skeletons, but Jerry, I am saddened and ashamed to have known you and I am only thankful that you did not make a connection with my 14 year old girl nor any of her friends or your penalty might be very different than what you received.

Ah, yes, Andrew, but you don't have to listen to 8th graders in class brag about the sexual exploits or the drug deals that happen at the Hudson Skate Park. I have a high tolerance for tagging and littering, but I draw the line at 14 year olds having sex and buying drugs at our skate park.

The Nashua skate park is more out in the open -- maybe that's the difference. It's much easier to hide your actions behind the buildings in Hudson.

I agree, this is a tremendously helpful website. I don't understand how people can get upset at Jeff for not nailing the score releases perfectly. It does say score release "predictions" at the top.

By the way, nothing in NY yet. I'm waiting for Aud and Bec.

I understand that Byrne is one of the Conservative voices of the Trib. However he's a total crank. He might be the bitterest "old man" that gets regular space in a major paper. I'm surprised he didn't bring up the boogeyman as an Obama supporter.

About Obama, can Byrne name three members for the Illinois Senate that didn't take 2/3 of their money from "special interests"? Obama is a politician and wants to win. Why would you tie your hands behind your back in a street fight?

The debate of TIFs would be better if there were more transparency. What are the reporting requirements? How much money is collected? Who keeps track of the balance? What are the audit requirements?

Also the sheer number of TIFs in Chicago makes it difficult for citizens to understand what is going on where. It's a difficult and complicated story for the media to report. In the end folks are confused and don't want to deal with it. You have to admire Joravsky for his doggedness on this issue.
