in People's Weekly World - Populist president faces long odds on People's Weekly World Newspaper
President Lugo will need more the wisdom of Solomon to succeed On one hand are his supporters who are desperate to see social justice accomplished such as redistribution of wealth, a living wage, decent health care, and education. On the other hand are the oligarchs that have always ruled - the last 50 years through the Colorodo Party of Stroessner. This party dominates the nation's wealth, the media, the public service, & the national assembly and the military. At least Paraguay is surrounded by sympathetic governments and the incoming US Obama Administration is less likely to interfere than a Bush Administration would be.
I am hopeful that over the next few years Paraguay's new leader President Lugo, will be show himself to be an extremely capable leader well able to teach Solomon a thing or two, too.

in Latin America Should be in Washington’s Agenda on OpenMarket.org
Nelson is probably right - at least until November 5.
After all what wouldl McCain sing? - bomb bomb bomb Cuba?
What will Obama say? - We are willing to talk first before we undertake any action?
He will regard Arias as the only democratically elected president, while McCain will regard Uribe as such.
Even afterwards, I think Latin America is best at solving its own problems - such as the diplomacy by Dominican Republic that ended the standoff between Colombia and Ecuador. and the UNASUR conference in Chile which handled the Bolivia crisis well. US is great at creating problems. and worsening problems that already exist.

in Cindy Sheehan Endorses Cynthia McKinney, Green Party on unshackled
If people like Cyndy and Cynthia were in charge in DC, US tourists would be the most popular people on this planet. The US could be sending out medicines, medicos, engineers, plumbers, free food & mosquito nets, instead of guns, warships, bombers & misiles.
