I do this. I started with a program called motivated moms, and its an actual list that you print out each day with cleaning tasks to do that day, plus your regular daily stuff, really makes things simpler.

Unbelievable!

This reminds me of my college days, when the Kappa "bruhs" tried to get me to join the pledge line of their fraternity.

"You mean to tell me that I'm supposed to let you kick my ass EVERY night, get hollered at EVERY day, get humiliated in front of my classmates whenever you feel like it, and then, when I cross over, magically embrace you as my brother? Sheeeit!

The more I look at Hillary's face on the news, the more I see Bette Davis - from the snarl of her lips to the way she cuts her eyes, she has Davis's signature moves down pat. This woman doesn't need to win the nomination, she needs to win an Oscar - 'cause she sure is acting like a Class A beeyatch!

The saddest thing about this is she isn't alone - there are LOTS of people whose blood pressure is off the charts now that they have to seriously consider voting for a brown skinned man for president.

My husband and I had a go at the code last night, and we decided to run the script as a cron job once a night (as opposed to every hour - I don’t run that often!). I also tweaked the display of the times and units a bit. (Note: metric units should be kilometers, not meters.) I also made a wizzy looking badge to display the stats based on the look of the Nike+ site. You can see it in the sidebar on my blog. My husband was also able to sniff the location of the complete run data file, so I’m hoping to update it to show the most recent run information as well. I’ll post my code once it’s finished. Thanks for the kickstart!

John Edwards What people fail to remember is that John Edwards was absolutely on the WRONG side of a great many votes, not just the Iraq war vote. I liked him as a VP candidate, but now that he's running for president, these things just can't be overlooked or underemphasized. Sure, he's Mr. Populist now, but I have a nagging feeling that he's become a bit of a poser, locking in on a subject that he thinks will get him elected. He's frankly had appalling judgement on a lot of issues and votes. Of all the candidates, this man has absolutely the least amount of experience. Other than one turn as senator, what are his qualifications for the presidency?

I know very little about UK politics and the chambers of power. But I just wanted to comment on what I've seen on C-SPAN. I love the way issues are discussed and debated with passion and participation by all. I'm not a fan of a CheeseCake taking in a chef and a sink and instructing the chef to wash his hands, but perhaps I'm jumping ahead in your story. Anyway, I think I would rather see an initial refactoring look more like this:

I'm not claiming this is perfect, but would be more in-line with a first phase refactoring:

1. Washing hands is a behaviour between the chef and sink. The details of which should not be exposed to the cheesecake.

2. The ingredients getting added to a bowl pushes the loop as a single operation into a single method.

3. Might as well move the construction of all the objects but allow them to be injected.

One way or the other, I'm going to get an exception. Your way will be slightly more informative, but what is the use of that extra information?

I agree with avoiding nulls in a codebase if possible, but I hesitate at saying that we should define a new exception type for each possible reason a contract is broken. It's more effort and maintenance to handle all those exception when the error condition probably should occur unless by a programmer mistake in the first place.

It's an old debate to be sure, but what's the strengths and weaknesses of:

if (weHaveEnoughMoney()) {

    giveMeADrink();

} else {

    blinkNotEnoughMoneyLight();

}

versus:

try {

    giveMeADrink()

} catch(NotEnoughMoneyException e) {

    blinkNotEnoughMoneyLight();

The blinkNotEnoughMoneyLight() would live in the vending machine. I use it to bring up the point of how the code is intended to react to being able to give out a drink - blinking a light to the user indicating more money is needed.

There is no contract that there should always be a drink from a vending machine. There is probably a business rule that says that once the needed money has been given. The value of null would only given out when that precondition is violated, which would only happen from programmer error.

I had a similar thing on REG. It has been awhile, but I got something like an 85 a couple 82's and then a 74 and 70. I ended up with a score of 74.

I ended up paying the fee to have them rescore it, but what a surprise I ended up with the same score. I know some people say it isn't based on a curve, but it has to be.

Here's how we celebrated "Earth Hour".

I had a set of almost worn-out tires on my 4x4 (Dick Cepek 35" Crushers). We found a nearby piece of pavement and did massive burnouts in the truck until we got down to the belt material. This took longer then we expected -- that rubber is THICK and tough -- probably about an hour and a half.

Afterward, we went back to the farm, popped the tires off the rims and set them on fire in the yard behind the drive shed, while enjoying some frosty beers.

Don't worry -- it was completely symbolic.

If you want to control your roots from going into the PVC, I recommend using landscape fabric, or something similar that is water-permeable, but will not let roots grow through. If you want deeper pots and such you can probably use some of the PVC bulkhead connectors and use any ol' pot. I was actually thinking of doing a 16 pot version (4x4) and using plant troughs the length of the runs and put 4 bulkhead fittings in each one. Then use different light strengths above them to grow similar shade/light loving plants in each trough. There are also various PVC fittings out there to make pretty much any size container...in case you want carrots ;).

If you are a student, for example, and printing loads of essays and all heavy typographic work, here are a few tips:

1. Reduce the size of your type.

2. Use a slightly narrower typeface/font.

3. Decrease your linespacing slightly.

4. Decrease your margins.

I read somewhere that satellite images don't show the trash because it is mostly small plastic particles which reflect light and do not photograph well. In that same article they said cleanup would be next to impossible: cost, size, etc.

Wow - lots of clarification needed here. First, the premise above, "Sorry, solar really isn't an option at this point..." is incorrect. Tankless gas can be integrated with solar. Having a large storage tank hooked to a solar collector and plumbed into the tankless unit makes a lot of sense. During many parts of the year, the solar collector heats the tank of water and the tankless unit sees a higher incoming water temperature; either it fires not at all or it fires at a reduced capacity. It is true that some small gas lines may not be able to provide enough gas to run a large heater at it's maximum output. I would urge everyone to get lower flow fixtures first, then size a solar system or heating appliance accordingly. Then don't have 3 people showering separately at the same time.

I have been washing all my clothes in cold water for as long as I can remember - most of the time using a top loader. The door on the top of the washer must be closed to hold in a button which allows the agitation and spinning to take place. In order to improve washing in this machine that has poor agitation and circulation, I fill the basin with water, rig a piece of paper to hold in the button and then add the soap when it's in the wash cycle. This way, the soap is completely dissolved and good and sudsy by the time I add the clothes. This is also a way to make sure you are using just the right amount of water - put it on the low end estimate of what you need to wash and then add all the clothes. If the clothes are not in enough water, you can just hold the button to the next level and then click down to give it another try. When I have clothes with exceptional grime, just use a pre-treater. This can be a store bought type (which smells horrible) or it can be your unscented laundry soap mixed with some water in a spray bottle. Leave it on there for a few days and you are good to go. If all the clothes are like colors, let them soak with the soapy water in the basin for a few hrs.

The idea of using a device to capture dryer exhaust heat could be achieved through an air to water heat exchanger or similar device. Dumping dryer exhaust right into the house is a very risky idea. Many of the fine particles will pass the filter and dumping all that moisture into the house is a recipe for condensation, mold and building decay. Please don't do this.

Clothes line is a great eco way to dry clothes, and in cold months, put them over the shower curtain rod or clothes line in your dryer, point an oscillating fan at them and turn on the room's fan.

just as an aside, i noticed your statistics came from the cdc who as the great and wonderful oz have deemed me to be dehydrated for 12 hours because not even a covered drinking container is allowed at the nursing station and with a 20 minute lunch and pratically no breaks my shift stretches out like the sahara dessert..really nothing to do with your post but I do wonder about some of their data collection.

well mlp with the state of my 401 k am not sure i want to be centerian....btw I'm 57 with zero medical hx that watch my non smoking co-workers take the elevator because the stairs wind them (WTF)...am not saying it's a good thing and have tried to quit but always fall off the wagon. I also spent 17 years in a nursing home watching people linger and linger and linger. I am a little tired of being treated like I'm satan's scourge while watching the revolving door parade of obese people with chronic problems that could be easily remedied by weight loss but I have to take sensitivity courses about their "needs"....what a crock of political correctness. I don't smoke around children or other non smokers.

i worked in a nursing home before returning to the hospital and most of hospital transfers were driven by the families...if the resident became ill. the medical director ordered treatment but some families would just insist they be sent to the hospital. Now that I'm back in the hospital I see more and more bogus admits of nursing home patients....uti and mental status changes will both clear up most of the time with a little po antibiotic and some extra glasses of water.the chf with crf were treated symptomatically without overkill. most pneumonias again po antibiotics. simple and unsophisitciated yes but we had a very low mortality rate and we kept them out of the hospital. we always asked people if they wanted their family menmber to go to the hospital and the ususal response was no keep them with the people they know unless it was a legal gaurdian,, then they would get whisked off for a hangnail.

they respond to financial incentives but not necessarily in the right way. finacial incentives does not ergo mean increased productivity and improved bottom lines. also when you have just borrowed a gazillion dollards from me for mismamagement and down right greed, the general electric ceo's remark is either hilarious or so out of touch with reality it borders on bizarre. the good old boys days are over...once you violate trust(just like a little kid) you have to earn it back. No car for you, ceos, till we see those grades improved and your room clean. and iF executives leave in droves who cares? Did you listen to the whistleblower testify to congress about the sec's absolute disregard for madoff since 2000. wellheeled and compensated foxes watching the hen house. Bonuses and incentives have just bred a white collaramorality.

no you cannot do anything till people stop trying to be politically correct about this issue. several years ago we were required to take obesity sensitivity courses...when admitted they are ENTITLED to big boy beds, commodes....there are never any dietary restrictions or consults ordered. fans are provided because they are always hot...expensive equipment is ordered to move them. Other patients' care suffer because 3 or 4 people may be required to do their care. People get hurt caring for them. Yet several years ago a woman attempted to sue her doctor for him telling her point blank she was too heavy. We are not so kind with smokers or drug addicts.but we pussyfoot around this issue. Airplanes have to carry more fuel because 150 passengers now weigh signicantly more than they did 20 years ago. It's an epidemic but we choose to put our blinders on. Even your post was wimpy..if you were posting about smoking you would have been much more blunt

--Unknown--Ok....I'm sorry if I got on the defense...lol..This is the bad thing about blogging/texting/other ways of written communication. You can't 'hear' a person's tone. It is stupid to segregate them...but then the rich people controlling everything don't want to live next to "those kind of people"...what ever would they do? I have truly enjoyed working with some of these kids...and some of them not so much. I wish that they could see things differently...I am a firm believer that you either unconsciously decide to be just like (or pretty close to) your parents' ways of doing things...or make a conscious effort to do better/differently. Especially when it comes to things like that...unfortunately...many don't change. I saw a girl the other day that I went to school with. She grew up in these neighborhoods. She had close to a 4.0 GPA in high school....yet she has chosen to stay in the "projects" and now has several children of her own running around the projects un-supervised...yet they drive a car I could never afford. Thank you so much for taking the time to come back. I'm so happy to have 'resolved' this....and apologize for immediately getting defensive instead of looking at things differently.

Unknown--I never said I would segregate them. I'm glad that I and my children have seen a different side of things. I said that if they were my children they wouldn't have privileges (well--many of them wouldn't). I have been talked back to, hit at, kicked and screamed at, my children called curse words I wouldn't dare utter, things thrown at my children...etc. We feed these people dinner and try to help them in any way possible. They tell me "I'm not here for you, I'm here for dinner...and I don't need your church program but my mama said she don't want' me around the house"....some of them are wonderful....truly wonderful. On the other hand I separated two kids beating each other with belts. One turned and said that she wasn't going to put her belt back on or give it to me, but that she would hit me with it. That is what I'm referring to. I don't want them to be segregated....I want their parents to CARE!! I want them to realize that they can be better than what they see but unfortunately many of them have made up their minds by the time they are in 5th grade or so that they don't like school and don't want people to help them. I have quite a bit to say on this subject myself! I have had to get assistance myself...but I gaurantee you I'm not driving a Lexxus around while on Food Stamps and living in Govt. housing. I guarantee you that my 6 year old child won't tell you to "get the f*&^ out my face"....in order to be better they have to want better....or they won't get anywhere. I had a woman who came because her child was hysterical. When her child wouldn't come with her the mother said the child would "be fine" and left her. Twice. It seemed the only thing she was worried about was pawning her kid off on someone else. She wouldn't even come in the building with the kid....just sent her with me. I'm sorry if I have offended you...but I truly have seen more this week than I ever needed to. They have to want better to do better....and I don't want to segregate anyone. I simply want them to want better. Period.

Separemos terminos para empezar, la homosexualidad no esta intrinsecamente relacionada con la transexualidad. No hay que sentirse mujer para que te gusten los hombres, la homosexualidad no es una "anomalía genetica" como si dijeras una mutacion o un tumor, puede tal vez considerarse una rasgo biologico, pero si la mayoria de personas en el mundo tienen el pelo negro, y un 20% de personas son pelirrojas, no creo que lo justo sea decir que los pelirrojos tienen una enfermedad o que son anormale sporque no se ajustan a la mayoría, es poco comun, si, y es una caracteristica genetica no mayoritaria, pero no una enfermedad o una anomañia que haya que corregir.

En cuanto al que ha dicho que puede tener un valor evolutivo, bueno, la homosexualidad no es hereditaria y puede darse en un individuo de una familia sin tener mas parientes cercanos o lejanos homosexuales, o darse en dos primos de la misma generacion, no veo porque la naturaleza solo quisiera eliminar a un solo individuo de una larga familia "condenándolo" a la no reproducción, cuando sus hermanos y primos estan esparciendo sus genes por toda la piscina genética. Hasta donde se sabe a dia de hoy la homosexualidad es innata y no "corregible" solo reprimible (con mucho sufrimiento de las personas y todo lo que conlleva), y no es más que la atracción a un tipo de personas, deberia ser considerado algo tan basico como el por qué nos gusta mas un sabor que otro o un color más que otro. Conocí a una persona que odiaba el chocolate, desde siempre, tendrá alguna enfermedad?

Por otro, hay que tener en cuenta que la homosexualidad está en el reino animal, que hay animales, como nosotros que tienen sexo solo por diversión o por "ritos sociales", y que sexualidad humana es variopinta y rica en colores y matices, no conozco si hay algun estudio sobre porqué a algunas personas les ponen ciertas cosas y otras no, sin entrar en teorías psicoanaliticas... pero es cierto y está ahí, no somos una especie de coito rápido estacional para tener crías y adios muy buenas.

En cuanto a la transexualidad, es más un tema sobre roles culturales. Estas personas desde pequeñas (aunque yo desconozco la razón) se sienten más agusto en el rol del sexo contrario. Es lo que solemos llamar género, yo por ser mujer no nazco automáticamente queriendo comprar zapatos altos y hacerme las uñas. todas esas cosas que achacamos mentalmente a un "sexo", es el rol de género, se va introduciendo culturalmente hasta que llega un momento en que lo asumes como tal, como natural. El asunto es no aceptar todas esas cosas del rol que te adjudican como miembro biológico del sexo al que perteneces y en algun momento eso se deriva en una encrucijada, es "querer ser una mujer" no creer que se es. Las personas transexuales saben que nacen con sus genitales propios de su sexo, pero a lo largo de los años se han aferrado tanto al rol del genero contrario que desean fervientemente serlo del todo o se sienten incompletos. No se si sobre esto algún cientifico opina que pueda o no ser enfermedad. Yo creo que no, personal y humildemente, porque creo que el rol de género para empezar no es un hecho natural del ser humano si no una parafernalia que nos autoimponemos sin pararnos a pensar porqué y realmente no tiene una gran funcion, ni como control social, y que además tiene los efectos negativos de incomodar y prejuzgar ligeramente a todos aquellos que no se adaptan del todo al rol. Si encontramos a un hombre que no esta ajustado al rol masculino, automaticamente pensamos que debe ser homosexual, lo sea o no.

Posiblemente alguien pueda comentar que segun mi planteamiento un psicopata que no se ajusta a las normas sociales, no deberia ser un enfermo por el simple hecho de no ajustarse a las normas. No, un psicopata obviamente tiene un problema, pero no todos los que rompen las normas sociales tienen enfermedades o desórdenes. Pensar lo contrario es librar de responsabilidades a mucha gente... y no todas las normas sociales tienen las mismas funciones.
