I very much agree with Dave !! Me2 is very interested in this type of information. I think this is the critical part of the innovations cycle /learning curve. I hear the frustration in this post.. its' very simple,IMHO -there's actually nothing new (innovative) happening !!

Ryan has a good point & with the 'room for student' slot. In fact, I think Democamp should only Showcase stuff that the students are doing.. NO Company should be allowed to demo, however they can speak on some of the issues echoed above !!

Yes, tacit km is tricky.. how do I get the knowledge from your head and into a space and form that we can use or at least see ?

I use Sharepoint in some areas for SME's knowledge collobration. with Blogs /Wiki's I am still to experimenting..

Added to this is the fact that 'deep knowledge' transfer series and seminars..

What I am struggling to contend with is ROI's, SLA and CSI ..

how can I measure the rate of learning within the group ? or what is the impacted ratio's based Customer Satisification index etc etc -

I think those are the the attributes that we need to define to make it more main stream under a business envoirnement folio (in terms of KM) and create the value streams within the enterprise !!

I think that old media will continue to "report" by one method or the other. While blogs will continue to be more personal type reporting. for example - I don't expect to see an article/column about "what I cooked today"- as a comic strip. Whereas bloggers look for that 'personal' story.

Matt : PPT was the the main meta "attention"engine of the late 90's na early 20's. But now particpants don't need lipservirce rather a discourse. IMHO, the market is the discourse. without it there is nothing.. I once Asked Tom Peters what he thougth of slides vs non slides and he sez, he prefers throwing only a couple of words on a slide that lead the way for thought provocation which then permits him to infuse conversations and create a two way path. His first Expereince of this type was in one of his fame conferences of Brazil where his 1 hr slot become a 3 hr slot, because the people where asking questions. albiet to the annoyance of the organizers.. but he is tom peters and at 40K a pop, he can do what he wants..

But the point is simple. The world is getter smarter --ppts just dont cut it anymore !!

Matt, I think that privacy is the main issue here.. and not its fair to over react, because its possible to find out stuff about a users. Typical e.g NYT reveals ID and PIC of a user 4417749. This is a casual reverse engingeering effort in progress !!

Just imagaine what else , others can data mine within the data set ?? Our intiatl pentest boxes reveals a lot and interesting information !!

Social s/w is driving the web2.0 fork in the community.. we saw this paradigm in BSD, Open BSD, various flaviods and distros !!

Take for e.g Soical S/w in terms of Digg, FARK, NETSCAPE,-- digg uses will never fark. fark users will never digg. each community is tightly meshed together. This behaviour will soon produce the "forking of the community" -- like how the early MUDS of the 80's -if you were not in one specific MUD, your were treated as an "outcast". that was the reality of "social being" in the "digital world" !!

Unless these 'social clouds" bring about a heterogeneous stratosphere, will there be any benefit in the center.. just like a nokia phone can send and receive yahoo, gmail, hotmal !!

right now I cant post onto digg with a fark account or vice versa.. segregation is societies worst nightmare.. social s/w is doing this in a very pervasive and silent manner

Matt, this would be space to watch. This was not a tip, rather it was 'bought' out. The ramifications are bigger. "Slander" and "libel" from either side is now possible. After all, it was a journalist /reporter who did the inital research and valleywag who is publishing..

IMH, myspace is a spamworld2.0 , but this is kinda legit, because, their users need to wade thru the spam for them to get to their services. The big question, here would be --was that organic in nature or was it straegic in nature.. ??

This maybe the future for a specific demographics. Traditional ad's (al carte Saatchi Saatchi style), will not not die for a long time. Its only when the entire human race is digitized in terms of being on a grid and working a smart device, then SL type Ad's will certainly be the termed as 'poster /flyer' style by that time :)- That is, the future beomes evenutally distributed an old methods ( SL type ad's) ways have to give way to the new ways- whatever that maybe.

I think your title needs to be amended :)- "Is this the future advertising?"
Should actually read as "Is this the new wave advertising?", or something to that effect,

This issues here is that 'craftsman' - now can't sell thier articles and make mulla !!

I hear that the current ex-rate is 1000 lindens = $3.30 USD. This virtual economy has been a facinating trackpoint for me. Virtual Objects could be peddled at a streetcorner within SL. The good old systems of barter works, but thers no way that Linden Labs can police these transactions.

There are those are in SL for gaming, and then there are those in there harversting virtual assests !!

Yes Taran, Castronova has some great insights into economy... in one of his papers he states "the virtual economy which he estimates at somewhere between $200 million to $1 billion. In general, virtual economies are supported by assets collected"

I belive the "petri dish" is now ripe for harversting in maliious ways. Castronova notes that Internet scams such as "phishing" -- sending unsolicited emails that mimic real
e-commerce providers -- are also a problem. These emails go after players looking for immense gaming power that will allow them to jump a few levels.

This brings be to a cricial questoin..will Phiishing and a Nigerian scam type of artists in SL be a real world crime :)-

After all, I will be gaming the gamers in a virtual land and thats what SL is all about correct, leting the creative juices flow ... :)-

But it does answer a litte bit of my research.. the crime "doesn’t fit within a specific criminal statute." :)-

so how does one classify such endevours within SL ? Afterall its a scam being pulled of by a RL person, yet there are no legal instruments to curtail such acts.. SL is a safe heavan for those who want to make a quick , fast buck ...and nada, zippo governement in the world, can counter balance such acts..

like I said eariler .. this is a "facinating trackpoint " for me :)-

Working in Large Enterprise Companies is like playing a startup game too.. All one needs to do is play by the rules of the Company..

If you want one of your pet projects/ideas to take off, you begin seeking internalblessings (Angels) and if you get a nod, you complete a POC and BuildPlanv1.0 and then do an Executive Presents and obtain buyin and Budgets allocations (think VC fund $$) .. ete etc and then the ball start's rollling...:)-

Its the same mode and model , but just a differnt approah. .Its framework of mind on how one plays in this type sandbox..

Engtech: Very smart people kow how to captialze situations and turn challenges into games..and have fun at it.. Trust me. Been there,seen that.

I agree wrt "a good thing in the eyes of most, but bad in the eyes of anonymous? " - this itself will tell how much humanity is matured . The beauty of Anon is that its loosely tied and widely organized. For something to be good to others ( as a majority) and bad to Anon - would be an interesting event to track. Holistically, I can see your reasoning and agree with the long term vision. Startups can mobilize in India..but having a core team in the west coast and then dev team in india. is just NOT working out. Secondly, you need to go back and review your post on incubation and mentorship. Startup's need to move that bold move to remove themselves from the string that tie them into a position of weakness. (incubation theory) However, that again will negate series funding and advisory committee's are not conducive to their funds being driven by passion and vision alone.. let alone in another country.

Global Hedge fund mobilization in India is what is needed...

I am trying to imagine a googlebase with the same type of click2call methods imbedded within GoogleBase. I.e - we can create an Ad which is dumped into Googlebase, which gets crawled/indexed etc etc

User(s) who browses the ad can contact me thru the C2C methods.

I actually did seti@home way back in 98, when under the .om domain!! It was fun, easy and there was no major end user involvement.

The propbel with P2P connection needs to robust and bandwidth needs to conserved too. Todays toc is not the hardware, its lies within the limits of bandwidth. Currently the isp will only only 300 gb of thruput per month at some $ value. The end user is paying this. The application host is only paying for transaction cost to the user. If the model can be rationalized between bandwidth, cpu thin slice time and actual end user time, there will be potential!!

Yes, I would like them to get more technical on the above. This will tell me if they are walking the soxs line or not. Regardless if you are PM or not, a person with integrity will the right thing. In PM screech, the best way to describe is the "PM ethics" :)-

to answer the bigger question "are our industry's best practices really that?" - most often its not- most PM follow the rigor of the corporate folio , because they need to toe the line and play the game. They maybe successful w/projects, but is it really cutting edge and best current practices for the market space ? IMHO, there is always areas that can be improved. Processes and methods need to change with market demands, most companies fall behind on the innovations curve.

I don't think so. Most companies don't even have a blog let alone servers and hosting serives for them.

We the comunity is crying "wolf" just because it is something (blog hosting) we are paying for and want service and uptime. When it blogs become mission critcal then one will find apps and servers being jelled together to obtain "best of class" attriubtion. Till then sitback and expect that we will have "noise" failure for interim moments of time!!

The last time she did I thought was at the usergroup moblization for msn search. She was only female in the working group to have been invited and accepted. The other female who was inivited was Tara of "google hacks" fame.

I think that forum/event managers and companies (e.g MSFT, GOOG,YAHOO etc. Etc) should go out of way to make sure that there is even partipation in events and tech convergence meetings by inviting more females and companies should also sponser!!.

Why would I want to use pubsub if they are culling the wrong blogs into the chamber of "communites of practice" ?? If I were to search for PR then I want that list to only have PR blogs - not some joeblow who wrote a single entry which is releated to PR !!

Not to undermine pubsub , Bob et al are doing great work - but there is certainly meta data that's needs to tagged , harvested and then only can be ranked. There exits no methods to cull the former. The question then becomes simple - how do I catogorize a blog ? Should scobles blog come under tech ?? Where as msft is developong products that support services, googs and yahoo are buying services and folding it under their folio.

Not sure where the term web2.0 come from. I heard it last march for the webcon held in sept. That was the first time I heard it. Secondly, was the the term web2.0 coined form business2.0 ? Which is a publication for nearly 2 and ahlf yrs !!

For me web2.0 is the term that "we the geeks and community" use to describe innovations, techniques and new methods happing at the technologial plataue. And it revolves around rss/ajax/ and opml. Imho, if the value propoistion has no touch points on any of the 3 above, then its not a web2.0 gadget/widget/platofrm/product !!

Those three points are critical for catogrization/tag efforts.

I found the only issu there is that the earpice covering tends to get lose and falls away. I had to hunt for my secondary piece when that happened. I use a plamtronics hooked to my berry.

actually Scobele's, your BLog rolls well on my Blackberry7250. Maybe, Because i get feeds via a single PermLink and i dont load the whole page.

But there is an existent bug on this series, if you surf a site and go back again after sometime, it just pulls the cache into the mobile browser. Does your gadet do the same thing ?? I find this frastrating as one tracks comments.

Secondly, when my gadet goes WAP it crawls slowly. It really really sucks !! big time.

Last but not least, I heard that a vendor of mobile technology is extending their browser to MDS4.1 which includes XML Web Services among its methods for integrating mobile applications with back-end servers, and supports the Microsoft .Net and Java 2 Enterprise Edition environments. That would be an aswome gadget to get !! :)-

Actually Donald, the value of a blog is that you can repair damage. Unfortunatly, the person in question does not have a blog and was corned too make a comment on another persons blog. Qustion in play was the author of the comments really the person who is defending themselves or not ?? I only see a name with a url which pointed back to microsoft.com !!

Robert, I think what everyone is missing is the fact that these blogges actually created a blog- mumbaihelp.blogspot.com to assist in recovery2.0 eforts after the incident of 7/11 !! They had contact numbers, links etc which was hosted on blogspot. Families of the victims used that as a resource for information sharing and culling.

However, that is being cut away becase of a directive from the Gov. of India (..for whatever reasons !!)Remember that the ISP's are blocking the whole domian and thus effecting the ethos of the blogpshere within India.. I wonder what will you say when scobleizer.wordpress.com is blocked by AOL or another ISP !!!

I think there are a lot of conversations happening --but just not where its totally visible or in the form of blogs (which most folks harp about as the new wave method for conversations !!)

If you join certain key Google groups, I am pretty sure that you will see conversations happening.

In fact, here we near got an instantaneous answer a question.

I think a lot of blogosphere, expects Google create blogs and join into 'conversations', but their mode of communication and conversations is different- that's all.

I kind disagree with Chris's comments on "as their usage grows and they become paralyzed to make changes without pissing off a large number of users",

Google is listening and learning, thier userbase is strong and increasing along the loytalty ladder. Making changes will not piss of the user - not being truthfull will piss of the users'. Services and products constantly change and will evolve. Some users may like the enchancements, others may not, but thats the risk w/every prodcut correct ?? Oh well, like just the screeeeeech in vista Beta startup :)-

SCobles, I actually just consume the whole Public RSS into my Google Clip gadget.. and at times I just add other folks at the gadget level, rather then add them in twitter. It's like have one's own infocentre pulsing with twit's ..

Not seeing the big deal at all here.. using GPhoto screensaver - version 2.0.0.1077 runnin on PC - and HDTV linked in via RSS Port and rss/photostream to pipe random pics from picaso (not sure about flicker photos being piped in !!)

what more interesting, is that I am seeing all the Friends on FF twitters on FF , so I am not missing anythign in terms of chatter and can also reply with swoosh on post to twitter. API seems to working ok.

its just my redundant fail over strategy for twitter !!

yes, just using Projects does not make one a PM. What matters most is the people.

As for reporting in status etc and project matrix, there are many ways of doing it. keep it simple is the best way to go. less is more !!

I call this the lack of due diligences. That's in;

1) Capturing the unplanned tasks and ensuring that at closure one can use this as part of the lessons learnt.
2) I treat unplanned tasks as risk issues if there become "bottle necks"
3)track them as "Risk issues" under PWA.
4) Revisit them for lessons learnt
5) VSTS connectors permit a PM/IT dept to extract these risk issues across the whole folio for quarterly reviews.
6) I use that method to review "defect's" in the planning , analyize or dev process. that becomes one of the variables for folio matrix build for project efficiency.
