in Death Valley Star Trail Photography on EXPERIENCE: A Great Place for Photography Education
Love the competing circles of light, Alec. What a great idea to add yourself into the picture. The stars trails are wonderful. 40 minutes, WOW. Wonder when the last time was that I stayed still that long 8-)

The lighting is just beautiful, Alec. I keep expecting R2D2 to come over the ridge in front plus small rocket ships passing through the valley. I remember Zabriski point well but my pictures didn't quite make to the state that you have here. Now I want to go back and try again.

âThree great sides of Mason (questioning, happy with the world and corporate). There is the usual distortion of the hands in the third one, when the camera is close. How do you take a portrait like this one without the distortion? And, is the distortion a distraction? It doesn't bother me but it is noticeable.

A fantastic lesson in lighting, Alec. Thank you so much for this post. I also like the final result on Mason's portrait. What other post processing did you do, if any? This almost looks like the toning I see during the HDR process.
Thanks a lot for making your posts a great learning experience,

This is certainly different than what I have been used to on the last few posts, Alec, but I sure like the deviation. When the image first popped up on my monitor, I thought lensbaby or a special lens technique and then find out what the backdrop is. How clever is that? I have seen window well inserts before but most are solid plastic of some sort. This on lookw like it is a reflective material and this adds to the overall color interest in the image. Great use of the imagination.

Looks like an angel. How do I know it is a female? Look at those long eyelashes. She is being very coy. I like the way the flowers have come out, being blurred at the bottom, ending up more in focus at the top.
It is great to experiment.

What a great technique to produce design elements from a single image, Alec. I look forward to see more of your experimentation from images along the shore.

Nice job of getting the multiple exposure look for the canon, Alec. To me, the rotation worked very well but the slap zoom effect isn't as obvious as I would expect. Love the combination of colors in this image.
I really like the slap zoom effect in the second image. The rear curtain sync technique sure did give focus to the tree trunk at the last seconds. Looks like the trunk wasn't zoomed but the top of the trees with the leaves did zoom. Very nice effect.

My choice would be made on my mood, Alec. If I am in a dark mood, which I am momentarily, I like the left one because it gives me a place to hide so that no one can see my dark side. I can still look out of the shadows and see the beauty of the waves coming in and the great clouds overhead.nnIn a different state of mind, I would choose the right one becaue it is more open and is calling me into a peaceful place. The wider perspective allows me the freedom to roam witout, first, hiding.nnHow's that for a bit of pscychology?nnWes

Holy crap. Uh, no shit they didn't see it, they're HOMELESS VETERANS. Basic cable is out of the question when you have no place to keep your TV at even if you HAD one.
O'Reilly is carving out a nice little niche for himself in Hell.

in Four Horse Race in EPL Remains Unchanged on EPL Talk
I think you cannot ignore Man City. They have money to spent and they have a good manager too. They could spoil the top four order, maybe not this season but next season.

in Alexi Lalas Criticizes Premier League on EPL Talk
I think the other point I agree with Lalas is that there is a perception that anything outside the premiership is not good enough and yet we see some very good football leagues gaining momentum around the world and the MLS is one of them.
The top four or maybe top three next season in the premiership are known in advance and thats not good for any league, anywhere.

in More About Picasa Web Albums on firsttube.com
Picasa Web Albums has such great potential, but the lack of sub-albums and their horrible tagging implementation really makes me wonder. They certainly have some of the best programming talent in the world, but perhaps they have less talented dudes working on their Web Album product. They really need to improve the quality of some of their products in 2007.

in Time Machine on firsttube.com
While VSC is very similar, it's designed to do snapshots at certain times. This is fine for most restores, but in general, if you modify a document several times, you only have the version at the time of the snapshot. As I understand Time Machine, it does a snapshot at modification time, so you have each modification.
Then your understanding is inaccurate. According to Apple, it does a backup at a set-time each day... exactly like VSC.
