Dallas was one of the most right wing parts of the country at the time, Adlai Stevenson had been attacked in Dallas earlier in the year by a middle aged matron who considered him a traitor to the American way because he was an advocate for the UN.

Also folks like General Walker, H L Hunt and other had been pushing incendiary rhetoric about Kennedy being a communist tool. But once he got murdered all the critics and many of the people who considered him to be the antichrist talked about how much they respected him.

In some ways he has become like Lincoln or Jesus (if he did exist) in that he has become more popular in death than he was in life. But then again this is a common tendency of human behaviour.

I think you are right about Clinton being acknowledged. I thought about why she was not picked for anything and based on what i heard it might have to do with bill not wanting to disclose his financial dealings.

Sean I cannot bring myself to stop calling police pigs. I hate so many of them, but when I see them doing things like catching criminals or protecting and serving I feel a great deal of pride & joy. I am very glad that you are already pointing this out in your blog Shakespeare's Sister. Much as I personally dislike Palin's views and positions since she is my govenor right now. The VPILF shirt and some other things really bother me and make me wonder if the folks who would do such a thing would ever really be on my side. Personally I think the best thing that Obama's campaign can do is ignore her and make the race about McCain. If they focus on her positions and McCain's that might be okay but the best thing is to ignore her personally and attack her views, actions, & positions as governor.

Katie I think that they don't get things like healthcare because until recently many people thought that undeserving people would get the free healthcare instead of the deserving, tax paying, salt of the earth americans.
