On one side you can say that whomever has one of these is either supporting the cause (they purchased one) or they know someone who bought them and gave it as a gift / money exchange. Either way, I would say the initial goal is met (money for a bracelet sent to the LAF). I agree there are too many people out there with the idea this is a "FAD". Then again how many AIDS ribbons do you see looming around or USA flags from 9/11. So I guess what it comes down to this, either you support this organizations cause, regardless of its patron's donations or you support the downing of a trend that was started when a man (who happen to be the flagship organizer) won a sport that featured this bracelet. Either way, the wristband is present, the cause is being supported, its only the fault of those who pay for or receive the bracelet to know what it stands for. I personally purchased 10 of them for the purpose of supporting the cause and at the same time showing my dead relatives friends (who died from cancer) that their memory is not lost on me.
