in Ferguson ready to open it back up? on Inside the Hall
Williams is fortunate that Lawson and Hansbrough aren't playing in the NBA this year. The real gems are guys who are "that good" and who are willing to stay with a program for three or four years. They're hard to find.
Under different circumstances, a guy like EJ might have been able to carry a team to the Final Four, but who knows?
I'm hoping that Crean has good judgment on these matters.

On the bright side, there's only one more loss I have to swallow until November. I mean, I don't think they're bad enough to lose a game after the season is over. Are they?

Let's send Crawford back where he came from and see if we can get a refund.

This is like a 2 or 3 seed team....really disappointing year. It will be a long time before we have a mature big man and a superstar freshman.....really hope we get it done in indy and at least get a 4

In the 4 complete games since Sampson left, Gordon is 3 for 22 in threes, or about 13%. Before Sampson left, he was hitting about 40% of his threes.

in Hoosiers shellacked by Spartans, 103-74 on Inside the Hall
This game wasn't a fluke. The team has played very poorly for the three games since Sampson went away. Unless Dakich's game plan was for 4 guys to stand around while one guy dribbled the ball and shot, the players have decided they won't run their coach's offense.
MSU was hitting their shots, but their shots were undefended. Unless you're Crawford, you will have pretty high shooting percentage when you have wide open dunks. Unless it was Dakich's plan to let MSU have open shots, the players have decided that they won't run their coach's defense, either.
I think Dakich needs to bench the starters and let them earn their way back into playing time in the remaining games. Having players who look like they don't care whether they win, lose, or get badly whipped is embarrassing.

In the three games played since Sampson left "for the best interest of the program" this team has played at about half speed. We're looking at exiting in the first round of the NCAA tournament unless Dakich can stir things up. He needs to turn the starters into reserves for the Minnesota and Penn State games for one thing.

Nobody is moving without the ball. Suppose that Dakich drew it up like this? Did he run out of dry-erase markers or something?

in Hoosiers hang on at home against Ohio State, 72-69 on Inside the Hall
His stats were good, but it's disheartening when you see him drive into a defender who simply takes the ball away from him. Maybe part of the reason DJ looked tired was that he WAS tired of hustling down on offense only to watch Gordon drive and get blocked.
White and Gordon are gonna get double teamed any time they touch the ball within 20 feet of the basket. DJ can recognize that and pass it. Gordon still struggles with the concept of what to do when there are multiple defenders.
DJ's play has been pretty consistent all season long. It's Gordon's play that will make the difference between this being a Sweet 16 team and being able to go further into the tourney.

I believe Gordon's problem is simply that teams by now know how to defend when he drives. He needs to understand that he can't drive into a double team in college, like he could in high school or even earlier in the season, before everybody had 47 miles of game film on him.
Maybe missing the 3s early had something to do with it, or maybe bad officiating (it's hard to tell from TV).
He needs to add a stop and pop and a little bit more dishing out. Sampson was getting him to do that right before he went away . . .

DD
Eric Gordon needs to slow down and stop forcing the offense. I noticed even when he does not have the ball his tendency to remain stationery and wait for the ball. That also seems to be the same with the remaining IU players. D. Thomas is not providing IU with quality minutes. I'm so disappointed with his play and he needs to step up. I was hoping with the change to Dan Dakich that Mike White would get more minutes. I don't think he seen the floor at all last evening. Why not give Brandon McGee a chance? At the end of game last evening D.J. was having problems getting up and down the floor. Thank god for Gordon's offensive rebound at the end of the game. When you look at OSU - two victories we not bad when they took Tenn to the wire and pounded Florida. A win is a win. I can't believe this coaching staff has gone all year without a T. At the end of IU games all year calls have seemed to go against IU. Remember the no call travel against Wisconsin? It also appeared last night the OSU player traveled without a call being made. Rick Hartzell who was the official at Northwestern made several questionable calls. Remember him at Wisconsin with the Bracey Wright no call? Hartzell also called the T on Ellis for the rough foul on Jordan Crawford. Kids need to stop complaining and DD needs to get on the officials. Need to play better Sunday at MSU or we will get beat. Go MSU beat Wisconsin.
Matt J.
He would also probably be well served to grasp the ball with two hands while going into traffic rather than cradling it on his hip.

Yeah, the clips I've seen here show a lot of backdoor cuts. If you're gonna use M to M, you need to understand help side defense.
Otherwise, I'm hoping this game and this whole situation will make these kids tougher.

in Illinois issues statement on fan behavior on Inside the Hall
I didn't think the bump was that big of a deal; just part of a usual Big Ten game. Bilas had to have something to get hyped up about, and this was it. I did like looking at that cheerleader every time they replayed the bump, though.
Throwing stuff at Gordon's parents is a completely different matter. I don't know if the fans knew they were throwing at Gordon's parents or if they were just throwing at the Indiana fan section. Either way, it shows that Illinois fans are a bunch of pigs. They don't even do stuff like that at Duke.

i dont think it was a huge deal, but the problem i had with "the bump" was that it wasn't during the game.
from the opening tip to the final buzzer, you can kick, scratch and claw your way (within reason) to a win and i don't have a problem with it. but the pregame introductions as well as the postgame handshakes are about sportsmanship. it is about shaking hands and giving your opponent respect. chester frazier failed to do that, and bruce weber failed to do that postgame. that was not an appropriate time for frazier to "send a mesage."
i dont mind that frazier was fired up, he and every other illini player should've been given the circumstances. but he should have saved the theatrics for the game. what he did lacked class and was disrespectful not only to gordon but to the enitre IU team.

I've said before that, too often of late, it looked to me like the players didn't even know what they were supposed to be doing. That has to do with coaching. It looked less like that last night on offense, but it still seemed like that while they were in the zone on defense. They haven't had very good defensive rebounding or rotation on man to man all season, either. That's coaching, too. Plus, a different coach would have given Crawford a good "talking to" during a time out followed by pine time after a couple of the birdbrained plays he pulled last night. If that happened, I didn't see it. Crawford's getting pretty far along to be showboating like he's in a pick up game.
Maybe I'm just too old. I see a lot of North Carolina and Duke where I live, and they often seem as undisciplined as IU, only with better players.

Right on ! Since many teams run their offense off the bounce ( ie Duke ) it can look sloppy thus your last sentence should be a clue that the coach( ie coach K ) may not be the problem .
So many guys on these posts seem to give Gordon a pass. Personally I think Gordon is a major offensive problem becasue he does engage the other players such that other players elevate THEIR game. We stand around waiting to get him the ball and then when he gets it , we stand around some more because he does not dish . We are thus stuck with 2 options instead of 4 or 5.
Again you are right about PLAYERS. A PLAYER is different than a guy with skills. Gordon right now is a guy with great skills, but not yet a PLAYER
