Wow, I came to YBP Guide to make this exact same post as I received an email recently and am listening to the Madison Show. Very true and hypocritical. It is clearer to me more than ever that we live in a country full of double standards.

Oh (self) righteous one....yes he did! If we define it as empowering the weak and powerless, then he did just that! But if we define it how YOU want to define it, to make Obama look bad, then let the spin begin! Jesus was a healer, a counselor, a listener, and liberal. He wasn't afraid to touch the sick and sinful (to bring them closer to the Father, of course).
I like the way Jernigan cherry picks "Christian beliefs" (~sarcasm~). The sins you refer to (abortion and gay lifestyles/marriage) are just that--sins (albeit I don't agree with these choices/lifesyles in 99% of cases). All sins are equal in God's eyes...no sin is greater. We are all sinners and fall very short of the Glory of God...but my friend, there is a Savior and his name is Jesus.
So if these are your breaking points and you vote for these reasons (and Christian beliefs) then why aren't you a Jehovah's Witness? They don't vote, yet cast their vote for the Lord.
Also, do you believe in the death penalty? Many who oppose abortion believe in the death penalty as well. Where's the logic in that? Both are murder. And please don't caveat this topic...both are murder, period.
Let's repent sinners and ask for forgiveness.

RPT,
I see you are passionate about the GOP ticket. More power to you! How you feel about Palin is the opposite of how I feel. How you feel about Obama is opposite of how I feel. So be it...contrasting views!
--Sidenote: Will Palin put Air Force Two on eBay and lose money (once again)? What an accomplishment in the District of Columbia!
All of your statements didn't touch on the fact that Jesus was not conservative in his outreach. He was attracted to outcasts and sinners. Do 'Christian Conservatives' like Palin know this? If Jesus was walking the land today, my guess is that the likes of Palin and her GOP (Grand Ole Party) drones would treat him like they treat Obama. God doesn't like ugly...

Weight Watchers also has those yummy caramel cakes that are 1 point and they work to fight that sweet tooth. Lean Cuisines are great for lunch as well (love the sesame chicken!). You're right, take the same flavors and foods and find it with less calories!

You go lil sis! Work it out! I signed up for the challenge but haven't went back to update any losses. The key to weight loss is portion control and exercise. Both must exist to keep it off. For the portion control piece, I recommend Weight Watchers. Sign up online for one month and print all the food points. I am using the same data I have from 5 years ago. It takes a lack of 3000 to 3500 calories to lose one pound and WW does all the math. I wasn't dropping (just toning) with exercise alone, but WW made the weight peel off. Of course this left over Cheesecake Factory Choco Cheesecake is not helping, but I just ran and did some weight training. No dinner tonight!!! I'm proud of you!

Yes, our experience can not be captured a few hours a week on a special produced by mainstream corporate media, during black history month, or segments of reality TV programming. However, ANY attempt to chronicle a race of people will undoubtedly be put under a microscope. I'll speak for many of the critics by saying what we have grown tired of, particularly as YBP, is the stereohyped stereotypes. Black Americans should not be clumped into... "the black woman"...okay this is what you are, uneducated, diseased, promiscuous, unmarried...the "black man"...okay we want to show you as imprisoned, also uneducated, and a clueless baby daddy. Stereohyped stereotypes. A good documentary presents facts objectively, such as the excellent MLK piece. If the purpose was to ignite dialogue, it succeeded. I commend CNN for the website http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2008/black.in.america/ and the 360 blog, but I was disappointed in the 2 night special.

I don't "fight" racism every minute of my life. I'm not plagued by the dark cloud of bigotry all day, every day. So why does CNN make me feel like I should be?I agree and echo Renee, Kiersten and Rashida's comments. I did not see my black america. I don't know anyone in jail or who sells crack. I'm certainly not sheltered; I just don't have that reality. I know alot of black woman; I'm an AKA, have a large family and went to an HBCU for heaven sake's, but I may sound very naive in saying this, but from what I know (and of course many keep stuff like this may be kept private), I don't know any with HIV (or they don't know or haven't told me). Not to say that this isn't the reality for many black woman (and I will blog about this separate issue soon). I don't know too many people who have not finished high school. My YBP friends and neighbors went to Duke Medical School, Hampton, Stanford, Spelman, Virginia Tech, Kellogg, etc. They are under 40 and are VPs, Physicians, Attorneys,College Professors, Partners, and Directors. One one my friend's husband is a tenured math professor at Duke and has developed the mathmatical equation for bubbles (some crazy smart ish). These are all black americans that I know. Just like the Pres. of Bennett College emphasized, not all black people are poor and uneducated. In fact, many are not. I feel that point was missed by CNN.My husband is a good father, has never been to jail or smoked crack, has served in the military and is a positive role model for young black men. Where was his story?Where were the solutions to the challenges? Where were the stories that have absolutely no negative undertone? I wanted balance. Like Rashida, I won't give props just for attempting to chronicle a race of people. It was watered down, cliche and something that BET has done before (just as poor). HBO and PBS have been documenting our present lives successfully for years. Hell, Roots did a great job of depicting our history in the late '70s. Check them out on Netflix or YouTube. I've seen better "black in america" documentaries by high school students. CNN just got us hyped back in January and we hoped for the best. I give it a C-.

What does Obama have to do with this? Unbelieveable. Why is it when black folk do something that is not mainstream, it will cost Obama votes? You should read the crazy comments after the article (from the Denver newspaper). There is a fear that Obama will make this a "black" nation...like he told ole girl to do this or this was at an Obama fundraiser...at least now folks know what "Lift Ev'ry Voice.." is. More power!

in 10,000 Signatures for R. Kelly Petition on YBPGuide
Best of luck. 10,000 signatures, huh? To what power or authority is this formally drawn request going to? Is this a petition or a pledge? Is this really about R. Kelly or addressing the dark cloud of blatant disrespect and thunderstorm of stereotypes that black woman feel and see in corporate media, at home, at work, at retailers, etc, etc...? As a pledge, 2, 3, and 4 should be instilled in our young boys early (I'm talking to you parents), but 1 is irrelevant. He's not in heavy rotation, (and sure, please don't purchase a concert ticket or buy his upcoming CDs) but how is not bouncing to Kel's music (or stepping in the name of love) going to end the private and public exploitation of black women? What's the solution?

You know better than that.
I did not claim to "only" want to hear news that agrees with what I already think.
It's responsible to become conscious and informed; however, sitting through an hour of talking heads suggesting that black children are inferior is a "dangerous" use of my time.
I have two mighty black men to raise to believe that the are much greater than that. I would rather spend my time on positive outlets.

in Been to Church? on YBPGuide
I like mega churches. I started my mega church affinity at Trinity UCC. However, the whole getting to church 30 mins before it starts just to get a seat and sitting in the parking lot for 15 mins just to get out is crazy to me. Oh and check this out...I can't get how wearing apple bottom jeans and halter tops to church is acceptable. What's up with that? People are taking the "come as you are" scripture way out of context. I'm old school...wear a dress, suit or skirt! It's just for a couple of hours.

NO MY NAME IS NOT TOBY. IT'S KUNTA!
It's rough being Black in America (despite what Pat Buchanan says). This is modern day lynching of negros. They wanted to kill those boys. It's hard to respect cops...white or black. I watched "Slavery in America" this week on PBS and it comes close. There were no Buicks, blue uniforms, or T-Pains on the radio, but the lynch mob and victims looked the same. I see it as a combination of race and class hate. This is the shameful side of America that Jeremiah Wright talks about (when he is not speaking of foreign policy). And the talking heads on TV wonder why black men (and women for that matter) are angry.

Okay, one more thing (I had to watch it again)....at around the 30 second mark, he BROKE IT DOWN! His head started shifting from side to side and his finger had actions similar to the Daddy on Tyler Perry's House of Payne.
Seriously, what he said at countdown :30, is precisely how I feel mainstream America takes Dr. King out of context. In his late years (after the 'I Had a Dream' Speech' during '64-'68), he turned rather radical. His speech on 4/4/67, mirrored Rev. Wright's 9/16/01 sermon. No one lifts up this King, but they always want to use the piece of his most famous speech ("judging on content of character", etc). Hannity and O'Reilly love to take this road. We have a national holiday for this man, yet forget how the gov't literally hated him. Reagan almost keeled over when he had to sign the holiday into legis. McCain voted against the King holiday in 1983. Maybe Rev Wright will have a holiday in 2033. Doubt it though. Also read the Book of Jeremiah in the Bible. Interesting how the Jeremiah of the 21st century is mirroring the prophet in God's Word.
btw, that reporter was a straight up puppet...

I am soooo in love with Father Pfleger. I think I may convert to Catholicism. He deserves an Emmy Award for this one....not for acting but for making FOX News look like the idiots they are (I know there isn't a category for this, but shouldn't there be?) I'm glad he has a big black man as his bodyguard to intimidate the puny FOX reporters. For real though, who are the knuckleheads that do this hateful, sleezy, National Inquirer-type journalism.

Yes, we are all sinners. However, you shoud read your bible. Knowing and study God's Word is not "cherry picking", but getting closer to the One I love and adore and strive to be like. He desires for us to know His Word more than anything else...read your bible.
We are all sinners saved by grace...but there is one who knew no sin who became sin for us and His name is Jesus. Romans 8 speaks of shall we go on sinning (killing babies and allowing gays and lesbians to redefine marriage); Absolutely not. God sent angels to Soddam and Gomorrah to burn the whole city because of the gay and lesbian lifestyle...think about it.
Your argument is weak compared to God's Word. My vote is for the Lord by standing up for righteousness because His Word tell me that "I am the righteousness of God, in Christ Jesus." Please, for your sake, read your bible before you speak of things you know nothing about. Your words are comparable to a Pharisee, who Jesus called "a brood of vipers".
