in Proof of concept SVG editor gadget for Google Wave on Vidar Hokstad V2.0
I'm working with Rick Masters and James Hight on the SVG Web project; it would be very cool as our code stabilizes to plug it into what you are doing and work to get the editor going on Internet Explorer.

Very interesting blog post; would you say the complex stack that might get replaced might be the web browser stack as well (HTML, JavaScript, etc.)?

More evidence of the hybrid program in the 90s Dave talked about to show it's not a 'conspiracy' theory:
"1993
The Clinton Administration announced a government initiative called the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV). In the program, the government worked with the American auto industry to develop a clean car that could operate at up to 80 miles per gallon. Several years and a billion dollars later, the PNGV emerged with three prototypes for their 80 mpg car. Every prototype was a hybrid.
Toyota's exclusion from PNGV prompted Chairman Eiji Toyoda to create a secret project called G21, Global Car for the 21st Century. The following year, Toyota doubled its original goal of improving fuel efficiency by 50 percent."

Here's the Wikipedia page on the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles Program kicked off in 1993 and funded with billions of dollars to the Big 3:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partnership_for_a_...
"The Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles was a cooperative research program between the U.S. government and major auto corporations, aimed at establishing U.S. leadership in the development of extremely fuel-efficient (up to 80 mpg) vehicles while retaining the features that make them marketable and affordable."
Of course, the Big 3 have been fighting the future for forever:
"On track to achieving its objectives, the program was cancelled in 2001 at the request of the automakers, with some of its aspects shifted to the much more distant FreedomCAR program."
"GM, Ford, and Chrysler all created working concept vehicles of 5 passenger family cars that achieved at least 72 mpg [4]. GM created the 80 mpg Precept, Ford created the 72 mpg Prodigy, and Chrysler created the 72 mpg ESX-3."

Arizona Dave, here's the proof of the government helping to fund a hybrid electric car in the 90s. The Clinton administration kicked it off with a pledge by the big three to create cars that got 80 MPGs. Here are the model descriptions for Chryslers, for example:

Hi Todd, thanks for the feedback on Gears. I work on the Gears team so its appreciated. BTW, the fact that Docs doesn't let you make a document is annoying, I agree -- that should be fixed. Feel free to ping me if you have any questions about Gears. What kinds of stuff do you work on?

I've used - and read - excanvas quite a bit, so I was briefly considering doing a very limited shim myself since there's nothing fancy in what we're doing so far, but I'd rather spend my time on more interesting features and let someone else deal with the pain of IE...
