Nice post Ben. I had to do similar things because I was spending WAY too much time with my RSS reader (too many feeds).

One comment I would make is regarding MyBlogLog. I read your blog daily and since your entire post shows up in Google Reader, I don't always actually visit your site. However, that does not mean that I am not reading your content. Although, I should visit more often so that I can comment and be a better Instigatorblog citizen ;).

Keep it up! And I hope that our blog is one that you will include in your new RSS list :).

Maybe you should do a screen shot of the old blog so new visitors can compare new to old.

Writing new posts that link to your interior pages (like you have done here) is perfect! When you put a link to the page in your new post, your readers will usually follow that link. Very nice :).

MBL visits will come if you reach out to other members, meaning visit and/or join their communities and leave them a note when you do so. Technorati visits come when you write posts that their users are interested in. We get about 2:1 Technorati to MBL, but could easily turn that around if we took the time to follow my own advice :0. MBL takes more actual "clicking/surfing" effort to get results. Technorati takes more "good content" writing to get results, IMO.

I agree, Garry. If everyone just concentrated on creating good content and took the recommended steps for getting new readers and subscribers (sometimes asking readers to subscribe is the easiest thing to do :)) they would not have to worry about Digg or Sphere or whatever.

I wouldn't worry about going out on a limb. Your true readers will appreciate your efforts and the fact that you are so willing to teach bloggers how to increase / improve their traffic.

Hi Jens,
We had great success with subscribers once we made it a point to actually "ask" them to subscribe. One thing we did was to put a single line of text below each post that simply says "If you like what you have read, please consider subscribing" (or something like that). If the visitor clicks, they go to our subscribe page, which has the different options for them to choose. I think something might be better on your visitors. That is just my opinion :).
