in Yes, Twitter is a source of journalism on Mathew's comments
Nitpicking alert: why do you (and the CBC) ALWAYS have to say 'formerly Bombay' every single time you mention Mumbai? If you don't know what Mumbai is by now, you never will, and it doesn't matter.

mathewi That's a fair point, D -- but even in Twitter posts, I saw lots of people (many of them residents or former residents) refer to it as Bombay, so I think it's important to eliminate confusion for anyone who might read those -- although I agree it's probably a pretty small number.

in Mac vs. Windows: Does it even matter? on Mathew's comments
Apart from the fact that all the OS's have converged tremendously in the last few years, the most important development for me is virtualization. I make my living programming MS Office; my current main development machine is a Macbook running VMWare Fusion - I can use different virtual machines: Windows XP with Office 2003, Win XP with Office 2007 and SQL Server Express, Win 2003 with VS 2008 etc. etc.

antje wilsch You must be a developer :) I can't even remember which VMware environment I'm in half the time.

OS is not important to most end users except for how the browser behaves. I still prefer aethetically the way that most sites look in IE7 over Opera, Safari and FF (even FF3 - not that impressed), but FF is more stable so I switch between them constantly, and they behave differently depending on which system I'm on.

in Don’t worry, media: Old people love you on Mathew's comments
I strongly believe that any business who thinks that they are going to cruise to riches with traditional 'old folks' advertising to the ageing baby boomers is doomed. I was born in 1946, so I'm on the leading edge. What products have I looked at recently? The new VW crossover SUV; light weight tents; computer programming books at Amazon; memory upgrades for my new Macbook. What, no incontinence products? Sorry. I just turn off completely when I see 'Senior', 'Elder', etc etc in any advertising.

in Yahoo and AOL: Desperation squared on Mathew's comments
I think the Times post about Yahoo/AOL links nicely to your previous 'media at hyperspeed' article. It's been over two days now, and all the reasonable opinions about the Microsoft-Yahoo deal have been beaten to death. I'm looking forward to a sensational article about a Baidu.com/Yahoo merger. After all, Lenovo took over IBM's struggling PC business...

mathewi I think you're right. I'm expecting articles any day now about how
Yahoo is going to merge with Cisco or Amazon -- or maybe Wal-Mart.

in Scoble says he’s biased — does it matter? on Mathew's comments
Pretty soon the only people who don't 'question the substance' of any blogs are going to be the same people who double click on attachments in emails from strangers. Keep your job in the MSM, Mathew.
