in Dell Mini 9 Running OS X Is Blueprint for the Future on Fred Brunel
I used to think about installing MacOSX on a Mini 9, but found a better solution : buy a PowerBook 12" : it's about 350 € (a bit more expensive) but it rocks ! I did it, and I'm happy again !

I've seen OSX running on a EEEPC 901 and it's quite slow. Furthermore, the hardware is not fully supported, but I think that the situation is better on a Mini 9.

Fred Brunel The PowerBook 12" was an awesome machine, I remember your first one. I don't know why Apple discontinued it.

OS X on netbooks is a hack but it's better than nothing I guess. I've been told that on the Mini 9 everything is recognized; but you have to install some drivers.

Regarding performances, I guess it's because you need 2GB at minimum for OS X, and most netbooks only ships with 1GB.

Fred Brunel It's still a rumor especially as he will not attend Macworld SFO.

I tend to believe in people instead of systems. I think that even Ive would draw a platypus if his boss wants a duck with no wings... In other words, Jobs has a vision that is quite clear and this is what makes his products so powerful. If Apple looses this vision, I'm quite sure that the magic is gone.

Fred Brunel Sure, Apple won't be the same, but I'm confident that his vision is "shared" and well understood by other key people in the company.

I don't know if it will be enough in the long-term, but it won't be a disaster like the last time he left.

in Linus Torvald’s Rant Against C++ on Fred Brunel
Torvald has a way to say things so that even if you know he's right, you tend to fight against his position... I saw his talk, at Google, about Git, and I think that a kick in his butt would help him sometimes.

Regarding his position about C/C++, he says C > C++. This is stupid because a tool usefulness depends on its usage. Saying "screw driver is better than a hammer" doesn't make sense if your problem is a nail.

Once in the past Jobs was fired from Apple... You know the end of the story. What's the difference now ?

Fred Brunel Yep but at the time, the company was already in a pretty bad shape and had not that many rock stars as it had right now (i.e. John Ive).

in Asus UK : finalement des batteries 5800 mAh pour 10£ - By Pierre Lecourt - 4400mah, 5800mah, 900, batterie, echange, eeepc - Blogeee.net on Blogeee.net

in Why Desktop Programming Is So Unproductive? on Fred Brunel

I found an interesting article on Ruby on Leopard at this address

http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/ruby/wiki/W....
And here is the adress of the blog of the guy that was responsible for Python and Ruby integration at Apple : http://chopine.be/lrz/diary/.</p>

To sumarize : bridges are now shipped with the OS.

Enjoy!

Have a look at http://www.apple.com/macosx/technology/unix.html, especially "Scripting Bridge" part.

in Why Desktop Programming Is So Unproductive? on Fred Brunel

Bit Torrent on MacOSX was written in Python using Obj-C binding. I think this was a great app (and still using it on my Intel box, even if it is a PPC binary). It is probably possible to write good software with Ruby too with a bridge.

I think this is a matter of habits.
