in The NCAA, Twitter and you on Inside the Hall
My twitter icon is the IU logo (perhaps a copyright violation in itself). Am I not allowed to follow Kyle Irving?

How is an @reply dissimilar to a blog? Can I write on my blog “Please, please, please come to IU!”?

Even further, how is an @reply not allowed between fans and crean?

"For instance, Crean can’t be @replying back and forth with you all day, per NCAA rules."

Crean can't talk to fans now? How is this different than giving an interview to ITH or the IDS, or saying Hello to someone as you pass them on a street?

This article has brought about more questions than it has answered, at least for me.

You are allowed to follow Irving.

It's dissimilar because you are directing contacting the recruit saying that. Same goes for a social networking site. You are seen as a booster for the school influencing the recruits decision. You can't do that in the NCAA's eyes. If it's on a blog, you are most likely in the clear.

This is a good question. I'm not sure why this is. But it's the rule. Alex has an e-mail out to someone in the IU compliance office, so we hope to have an update on that. Remember, you can direct message him on Twitter, and there's a chance he'll respond.

He can still talk to fans.

How is this different than giving an interview to ITH or the IDS, or saying Hello to someone as you pass them on a street?

ITH and IDS are media outlets; you can obviously still talk to someone on the street. For some reason, the NCAA has decided to extend some its guidelines on what coaches can or can not do in the electronic communications realm in regards to recruits to college fans as well. Not quite sure on why this is. But that's the rule. Again, we hope to have more info on this later.

I really like Tom Crean thinking outside of the box and planning on going with the 5-guard set for 2010.

in Nick Williams will not return next season on Inside the Hall
Not a huge deal, probably best for the team and the player next season. Where was he going to get minutes other than garbage time?

I do, however, hope this is the end of the player leak. Tijan Jobe and Devan Dumes are welcome to stay not only based on their talent but because they have expiring schoarships after next year. Pritch and VJ3 are obviously welcome on talent.

Roth I could see wanting to leave, but I hope he doesn't. He's never going to be NBA quality and I think if he develops his driving ability he could see meaningful minutes next year, although that may change in '10-11 depending on who comes in.

As to what happens with the now open scholarship, I imagine Finkelmeier gets some $$ help for a year.

Alan I think you are absolutely correct. I cannot understand why most respondents are saying they will miss him...unless they miss the idea of IU rising all the way to mediocrity.

I do not know Nick Williams as a person, but as a player I do not see him as a starter for a top 10 team. Nor do I see him as a "first player off the bench" for a top 10 team.

Go DJ! Yeah thats my DJ!

Its a shame I won't be able to see him in Austin against our D-League team, but you've got to be happy for him. Also, this may get me to watch the NBA again in the rare event that an OKC game is actually on TV. Kevin Durant + DJ White = Crazy Delicious.

in Big Ten title: Who ya got? on Inside the Hall
So what are the possible scenarios? If IU & PU tie, IU wins? If PU and WISC tie, PU wins. If IU and WISC tie, co-champions? If all three tie, who wins?
DC Hoosier If by wins, you mean gets the #1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, then if IU and PU tie, IU is #1; if PU and Wisc tie, PU is #1; if IU and Wisc tie, Wisc is #1; and if all three tie PU is #1, Wisc is #2, and IU is #3. Tie breakers are based on head to head if 2 teams tie, or overall record against the other 2 teams if all 3 tie (PU would be 2-1, Wisc 2-2, and IU 1-2 in that case).

Teams that tie in overall record share the Big Ten title, so the tie breakers are only important for the Big Ten Tournament.

in Around the Hall: Friday links on Inside the Hall
if IU has 90 days to respond (from Feb 8), as reported here: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=325... then I say let Sampson coach the tournament. Don't punish DJ, Taber, etc when they did nothing.

CoveyDale The big risk is that the NCAA would be even more harsh when coming down on IU this summer if they continue to let Sampson roam the sidelines.

I really don't want to take that chance.

and I agree that it's always the players that pay for the mistakes of the coach. Sad.

in Is the non-conference schedule too soft? Yes, it is on Inside the Hall
I think its a good thing for our young team to build chemistry. We've gotten step one out of the way, playing on the same court at once. Now we're ready to move on to tougher opponents. It was just lucky that we got chemistry early. What if we hadn't looked so good early in the season? You'd have said that this schedule was excellent because it allowed the team to get together.
