Anytime I write about Twitter or FriendFeed for example, I include the widget because not everyone uses those two services. It's an easy way not to feel as if I'm leaving the reader clueless in that case, they can read the quick description. Perhaps they wouldn't be reading it unless they knew what it was, though?

Re: Sunday Blog Review: notes, thoughts, ideas and responses.?

Steven, thanks for the great review! He can be heard more easily than all the bloggers we associate with and based on a lot of readings, podcasts, videos - he seems to want the right things for the web, even if it's portrayed behind an entertainers mindset.

All those companies who think TC makes or breaks them - not my kind of company - too small of a market to think that will translate into any mainstream success, although it's a good start to find early adopters. Bigger ideas are in store for the future as entrepreneurs realize building cool tools does not make the Internet useful in the daily life of people who don't chill on it all day. There are far better ways to integrate the Internet into our pockets, streets and everywhere it would mean more to everyday people.

Re: Sunday Blog Review: notes, thoughts, ideas and responses.?

I'll check it out and see how it compares to the alternatives. Mark Dykeman of Broadcasting-Brain doesn't use Disqus but I enjoy joining the conversations he starts and thus doesn't prevent me from doing so. As more people learn of Disqus and understand the convenience factor, it should be harder and harder not to install it.

As far as commenting on FF versus the blog, I'll generally go for the blog first to pay the utmost respect for the writer taking time to share their thoughts. I comment on FF if someone shares something, writes a message or a particular blog entry demands a response that wouldn't fit into the conversation on the blog (less likely circumstance). This is how I've been participating anyway, much could change as I'm in the early stages of understanding my own user patterns and habits.

Re: My Blog Has Been Louis Grayed!

Thanks for the nod and congratulations!

Re: louisgray.com: Five Social Media Bloggers to Watch This May

Re: louisgray.com: Toluu Embraces Twitter With New Integration Option

Re: louisgray.com: TheStatBot Analyzes Top Tweeters, TechCrunch, Makes Techmeme Leaderboard

Re: louisgray.com: Developers Are People Too, Don't Forget

Re: louisgray.com: ReadBurner Adds Widgets, Accelerating Shared Items Race

Re: louisgray.com: SiteMeter Stats Sputter to a Stop, With No Reason Given

Re: louisgray.com: SiteMeter Stats Sputter to a Stop, With No Reason Given

Maybe you'll answer my questions JP

Re: louisgray.com: FriendFeed Doubles Share of Comments in 2nd Month Tracking

This is an interesting experiment you're running Louis. When I hover the link a small blue icon appears and if I hover the icon a new and smaller window opens. As soon as you hover away from the new window you're left where you started. It's made browsing so much more efficient. There are features like being able to stack the previews, which minimizes the screen and anchors it to the right side of the browser. You can actually pop out of a preview into a full fledged window. Highly recommended.

Re: Friendfeed is leveling the playing field

I agree with this post based on FriendFeeds current state and population, however, I see Cyndy A's point. My first response to this conversation is exactly what you wrote, "whenever you speak in public, or you write something and publish it..." As humans there are certain things we cannot do and one of those is archive all the threads and micro-threads that are connected to an Idea we produced. Aggregating conversations found around the web is not a necessity for content producers, however, I can see the interest in wanting a system that works that way. One method of adding particular new features would be to completely hide the feature unless the user went to settings and enabled it. That would allow users who want more functionality to gain it and users who like the simple interface to not be bothered at all.

Re: Disqus comments now enabled here.

Re: The changing face of FriendFeed.

Re: Evolution of the social web.

Re: Who is our audience and what do we owe them?

Re: The changing face of FriendFeed.

Re: Take time out - gain perspective.

Re: What is the real aim of social media?

Re: The private messaging divide.

What happens to rooms on FriendFeed if/when you're done with them? Do they exist with no administrator or disappear altogether?

I can see why an internal messaging system makes sense, especially if users are going to migrate from Twitter. I'm sure the feature could be added in an unobtrusive manner, however, I don't want to see FF adopt feature after feature and begin to lose the simplicity an openness that creates the unique experience we all enjoy so much.

Re: The private messaging divide.

I am just wondering how rooms currently work, but the ability to set up a temporary room would be cool. Maybe when you create the room one of the criteria could be the lifespan of the room - 1hr, 24hrs, 1yr, undetermined - and it would automatically disappear

Re: Dispensing with the trappings of technology.

Re: Online social networking, time for an intervention?

I'm not addicted, although I enjoy using the Internet daily. I think a balance is essential to maintain performance in other areas of life. I've had times where I'm not sure if I was addicted or had nothing else to do, either way, I'm always refining my usage because I want to integrate my Internet use with my day to day away from the desktop (mobile) and as strongly as possible.

Re: Online social networking, time for an intervention? « My Thoughts On Social Media

I'm not addicted, although I enjoy using the Internet daily. People are earning 80+ points a day to make the leaderboard.. I guess that's possible for someone who has the time or is it easy to digg a lot of stories, read your daily blogs and hit 80 points before you know it? to do that on a consistent basis seems challenging...

I look forward to reading the other conclusions you're drawing from this experiment.

Re: Follow the leader? « My Thoughts On Social Media

Interesting start to your experiment. I like this type of analysis about the community, as I know these ideas will get refined as more observations are made and the social dynamics of FriendFeed become more clear. Great Post!

Re: Disqus: The Future of Blog Comments?

Definitely game changing. There's a lot of skepticism about having someone else host your comments, but as you said, the benefits far exceed the downfalls. I've read on several instances that the ease of not having to fill out a form has increased comments on blogs. It will be interesting to see how the market evolves as competitors like SezWho tries to stay ahead of the curve as well. Less of a competitor and more of a complement is the FriendFeed plugin to show comments and likes above or below Disqus comments.

Re: Our new oral history - defined

Steven's article is excellent.
