in The Friday Question - Super Bowl halftime show on Pop Critics
Steven,
Hopefully you're right. I always have the hope that I'm wrong so that I can end up enjoying the show. My vote is still for the Killers!

The Killers would be an awesome choice. It's though to think of artists I would enjoy but also that the 'corporate suits' involved would also enjoy. Foo Fighters maybe. Green Day is another choice.
...Wow, I can't believe I just said that corporate America and Green Day would go together.
Considering all the lame acts they've had lately, I'll give the Super Bowl people credit for having Prince play that one time. I was a little worried at first if people would get into it, but he pretty much surprised me and rocked it out. Even with the rain. Some people may have not enjoyed his music still but I say give credit for that show as opposed to Paul McCartney.

For Heroes, regarding the cutting off the head thing, it may have something to do with the brain because when Claire was attacked last year and had the piece of wood stuck in her head, she didn't heal until it was taken out.
I can't pick who I 'want' knocked off, but I'm going to guess West and Elle will go.

Heroes was pretty nice last night. 2 things... I'm guessing Hiro may have a sword to Peter's throat because Hiro may stumble upon the fact that Peter is assisting Adam.
Also, about Noah coming back to life, was it Bob keeping him alive with Claire's blood OR Adam with his own blood?

"I want to feel like the writers have a direction for the show, a bigger purpose or reason, and just tossing in some fan-created hero seems to go against that."
That's probably the biggest issue I have. I'm all for experimenting with new ways to have the audience engaged in a show outside of the traditional program. But when you have a show like Heroes that has this overarching storyline, you want to feel like they already have their concept nailed down. Then again, maybe they're banking on the fact that whatever user-generated character could easily compliment whatever important plans they have for the show. Heck, even Lost acknowledges that even though they have their whole mythology settled, the details in the storyline can evolve because they may not affect the larger vision.
On a random side note, the thing I'm most curious to see with this writer's strike is that amateurs and other media companies can take this opportunity to grow a new audience in online media. Unless the strike ends soon, the big TV broadcast guys won't have anything interesting. Bringing back near-cancelled show leftovers won't be exciting. And any online webisodes or games they try to do based on their current programming will stink. I love Lost because of the show Lost, not because of 'extras' it could hav online. But IF there is quality online media to be found, this is the time to be found.

Mike, you just read today about No Doubt being inspired by Ska? Their first 2 albums were ska. Maybe home schooling affected this :)

Matt, that is soooo crazy that you listen to FIF. Nicky and I were HUGE Five Iron Frenzy fans. Kingdom.... of the Dinosaurs!
I have way too many bands to choose from... let me think about this.

My cousins and I would records all sorts of silly stuff on tape recorders. Radio sketches, mock interviews, storytelling. To be honest, I wouldn't mind it if my only daily concern now was to spend hours recording ridiculous radio sketches :)

Hey, I never said I wouldn't watch Private Practice. I just hope it's better than the quasi-pilot they had last year. I also hope Grey's does a better job this year.

in The best show you aren’t watching on A Mike Life
I'm with Scott on the catch up thing... I trust that it's not like the movie or some teeny bopper show and that it's probably really good. But I gotta pick and choose which shows to watch. We JUST caught up to Heroes and we should have been watching that all along. Just can't watch 'em all.

I am excited about the Office and Heroes. I read a little bit about how different season 2 will be. I'm glad that it seems like they won't just keep the main cast together in the storyline... Super Friends comes to mind :) Have you heard about the Heroes: Origins spinoff idea?

in The Emmy’s are lame on A Mike Life
I usually can't stand awards shows anyways because it's all a big act (Al Gore's 'award' for Current TV was just a promotional gimmick). But recording with Tivo and delaying when you start watching it makes it a lot easier. I don't know I would have survived the MTV VMAs without it.

Nicky... why do you want to see Christian Bale with his shirt off when you can have shirt-less Adrian every night?

As Donald Miller was listening to the sounds he was contemplating how life is 'happening' around him. Sounds vague, I know. Sometimes we lose awareness about all the small events around our lives.

I just read something today in the book I'm reading about the author going through a similar moment in a road trip. Makes me wonder why I don't pursue doing it more. Thanks for the inspiration.
