hold on, the best one is missing. Isn't there a movie with Johnny Depp as death and there's a similar scene? Except the body is being hit by two cars. Should have been the ultimate.

jazjaz That would be Brad Pitt in 'Meet Joe Black', and not Johnny Depp. And yes, they should have included that death in the list.

in Reach Out and Touch Someone on Dave Delaney : Dave Made That
As part of m part of me saving money for the last 2 years now (NOT as a result to the recession), I totally downsized. I went from blackberry to iphone down to the most boring flip phone with Virgin. It has become totally foreign to me to use my phone for anything else but talking to people. I oftentimes dream of the world that I could simply use my phone for all those fun things. It would drastically change how I do business with 2.0, but for now, I have to use my phone as a phone and get down to business (and maybe text a few messages to twitter).

Cheers, Hans

Dave Delaney Thanks Hans. I'm sure that Rogers has something to do with that too. It's
remarkable how ripped off Canadians are when it comes to mobile services.
It's practically criminal not to encourage Canadians to use and develop new
mobile tools. That's a good reason why you see so much cell phone innovation
coming from outside of Canada. It's too bad too.

in MacMerc.com: Italian leather notebook sleeves look like interoffice envelopes on MacMerc.com
Hey, this looks like a "cheap italian copy" (I never thought I would say that) of the "original" ManilMAc envelope. These guys here: ManilaMac had the website and the product up and running within hours of the keynote by Steve... So, in this case I must say, the Italian version is just a copy (although the guys at ManilaMac, should think of making more colors of their sleeve).

RickMacMerc Well, really, they're both copies of the standard manila envelope that Steve Jobs used to demonstrate the sleekness of the MacBook Air. And this sleeve is by no means cheap.

…but I get your point: ManilaMac was the first to capitalize on the idea…these guys did it slower…and better, I think.

in What was your first computer? on Dave Delaney : Dave Made That
Mine was the C16. I think it was the predecessor or the cheap people C64 :-) It looked similar to the C64 and had 16kb RAM... it's so weird thinking about that computer now. It never did anything, it always took forewever to load games from the cassette, if I got it to work at all. I was 8 or 9 years old when I got it. Those guys that built the computers really must have had faith that they would some day be usefull...

Cheers Hans. Great seeing you. Thanks again for the blocks.

in Comment: I’m in love on Michael Banovsky's site
On my visit to Berlin this year, some guys built a Cappuccino machine into the back of one of those Ape's (I'm not sure if this one is a Vespa or a competitor), but it was awesome, they just go to a market with it, pull out chairs and tables and have the best coffee imaginable.

Check this picture out. Unfortunately it was drizzling that day, so they covered the vehilce up with a tarp

in Gary Vaynerchuk - Giving a Presentation vs. Working the room Brands... on Gary Vaynerchuk
Oh Gary,

you are so right on this one. I actually realized that for myself with my teeny tiny little start up (Ukoonto.com). My job is to go out an educate people on a personal level, one on one, about our product (wooden building blocks, kids toys :-) in this case). It costs me absolutely silch, but I'm starting a large avalanche with mini stones right now, and all it costs me is time.

I've been so burnt out on large sponsorships that did absolutely nothing for my brand.

There is one exception that you have on the table though: Red Bull!!! Have you ever heard of the book "Brand Hijack" by Wipperfürth? It is absolutely amazing what they did to come into the market (10 years ago). So I'm pretty sure they are one step ahead, just like you are.

Dave,

that is great. Back in business :-) Good to see that there are guys like Mike. This will be the deciding factors for which "old school media" channels will stay afloat in the future. And it show me that Gary Vaynerchuk is so dead on with this theory: http://tinyurl.com/33txq2

in Oh Canada. Your digital freedom is going down the river (without a paddle) on Dave Delaney : Dave Made That
yeah, this is f***ing BS (sorry for the harsh words). I don't quite understand how it got to this point. They are already really harsh in Europe with those laws, at least they are reasonable and actually protect copyright owners. But I feel that some companies clearly take it to far and no-one questions them.

Here is an example: I missplaced my cellphone a few days ago. So I pull out my old cellphone and go to get a new SIM card for it. "That will be $40" What? Did I just hear this right, a piece of plastic with a chip in it costs $40. Furthermore, without that chip I can't make any calls and therefor an money to my cellphone company. I called them up and they very well knew that it is BS to pay $40 for the SIM card. So they give me one for free. Here come's the best: it says right on the card: This card is property of Rogers Wireless Partnership? What was a supposed to pay the $40 for? They didn't say it's a fee. No, this was my "buying" the card.

Well, we will all have to start living more on the edge with all those laws that we will accidentally break!

Dave Delaney Thanks Hans. I think it's crucial that we tell everyone we know about this.
My blog post includes links for ways you can fight this. I only wish I was
still in Canada to help fight it. I can't believe it will actually be WORSE
than the State's laws.

I also suggest you listen to the most recent episode of Search Engine on CBC
for an interview with Jim Prentice the "mastermind" behind this:
http://www.cbc.ca/searchengine/
Search Engine has been following the story for some time. It is truly an
awesome show too.

They mentioned on Search Engine that there are 60+ thousand already
subscribed to the Facebook Group against the DMCA. I'm not that impressed
with the number, considering Toronto alone has over 1 million users.

Let's get the word out and local MPs called before this actually gets
passed!

Dave

in How to get your Facebook friend’s birthdays in your calendar on Dave Delaney : Dave Made That
thanx for sharing the news about this app. Very useful. The problem is that now I have a certain obligation of congratulating to many people... :-) It's kind of like my friends theory for not having and answering machine/voice mail (who doesn't nowadays). He says, an answering machine will obligate him to call back all these people...

Thanx Dave,

That is so nice of you. I am actually just switching over from soft maple to hard maple, which means that the new toys are going to be even nicer than the current ones, and until monday (March 31st) we still have the "special introductory " price.
