in Anatomy of a Spam Attack on Oracle AppsLab
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

I've seen a similar trend on my blog as well. I just recently started using Google Analytics so I'm still learning. I found a cool Adobe AIR widget/gadget for Google Analytics that seems to work well -- http://www.desktop-reporting.com/.

Jake, I recently reviewed four iPhone apps from retailers, including Amazon. I suggest you check out the one from Sam's Club. http://blogs.oracle.com/retail/2008/12/shopping.... Its pretty cool.
I also discussed the future of m-commerce a bit. http://blogs.oracle.com/retail/2008/11/does_mob.... I think retailers see a lot of potential from smartphones but are still searching for the killer app.
Also note that Walmart will be selling $99 iPhones by the end of the month. http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=wal-mart-to.... That could significantly increase the market for retailer apps.

I saw your posts through OraNA, interesting stuff.
By choice, I don't shop at Walmart or Sam's Club, but if Costco built an iPhone app, I'd be on that in a hurry.
That rumor about the Walmart discount iPhone has legs, but I've heard one if not both attributes of the story are wrong. I think definitely the $99 part.

in How to Do a Set-Top Box on Oracle AppsLab
I have a ReplayTV 5000 with lifetime subscription, a Roku Netflix player, and a Oppo DVD player. I'm looking for something that will replace all three but have come up empty. The XBox will support Netflix (soon), but no Blu-Ray. The PS3 has the best Blu-ray, but no support for Netflix. I'm not sure either will provide true DVR functionality either. I suppose I could built my own, but I'm not sure how to support Netflix streaming. Roku open-sourced their code, but I doubt that includes the necessary decryption. I guess I'll keep waiting.

It will take time. I guess several years ago, you couldn't really get even two capabilities out of a single box. So, some convergence is better than none. Not to mention that oustide factors like standards (e.g. Blu-Ray) and agreements with studios to stream movies constrain the innovative technology.
Sadly, it's probably going to be a while before there's a single box to rule them all.

I too downloaded the NetShare app while it was available. Its only supported with the Mac, but I found some instructions for getting it to work with XP. Using Firefox and FoxyProxy I could get them to connect and I could surf for about a minute, then it would stop working.

Rich just pinged me telling me he's got FF working now. Maybe his workaround is different. I found several sites yesterday when I was writing this post. There's no shortage of iPhone hackery out on the Intertubes.
Oh, and XP? Really?

I've seen that AIR app too, and I used it for a while. Nice, but AIR uses a lot of memory, even more than Firefox. Plus, I got out of the habit of checking it and eventually dumped it. I do like the implementation, and it's very good for people who are looking at detailed stats every day.
