"I love an openly racist conservative... makes for a real discussion every time. Racist liberals dance around the words so much you can never get to their beliefs which are clearly reflected in their words..."

Bravo Evita. Bravo!

And that goes for everything else that you wrote as well.

It is our time and I think that we know it.

B-Serious...Thank God!!

From the beginning of the “IMUS issue”, my thought was that he should not be fired. All my peers thought that I was crazy.

But my point is that if he has an audience of 10 - 20 million people that think that referring to our young sisters as, “nappy headed hoes” is funny, then someone needs to reach out to them and explain why it might not be so funny.

Shutting down the communication will not help to move the conversation forward. It will only serve to further alienate those that don't understand/respect most black people.

I know that other groups will boycott and protest and “win”. But black people have a unique relationship with this country. We can apply the same actions, and get very different and oft times little Productive results.

I suggest everyone read “Racial Paranoia: The Unintended Consequences of Political Correctness” by, John Jackson, Jr.

Being reactionary won’t move our causes forward. Having an open an honest discussion will be a good start. But not a discussion where we think that we are going to do ALL of the educating and none of the listening. It is time for a new model.

Thank you brother, for your comments! They were like weight being lifted off my shoulder.

I half believe his explanation. For one thing, I did not hear the entire conversation, so I cannot get all up in arms over two sentences.
Secondly, as a sports fan, if every month a black athlete is getting arrested for something, then it is open for the public to comment. Imus has the right to express sarcasm about it.

Just as we have the right to criticize his opinion… freely

There is obviously a problem with these brothers being targeted (some because they are in "flashy" cars when they leave a club) and making bad decisions.

Craig,
I wish you would explain your point. I hate to be clueless. I respect your thoughts, so do share.

Rikyrah,

Remember now there was that memo that it changed to 1/8 or 1/4 meant you were black. So if you have a grandparent that is black, then so are you.

That is if it is a black white mix, because the African features over power the white. Does not count for Asian & Black or Native American & Black. There are rules to this thing.

Of course, it was all about property and rights. The meter on 1/8 or 1/4 never moved. It is still on the books, if you search for it.

But I feel silly even talking about this "issue".

To many great comments to choose just one. Bravo JJP family.
AC- brilliant!!!

Craig- You and I both know that in that senario, he would still be considered a black child adopted by a white family until the day he died.

But, what kills me most is that most of these strange comments are coming from people who grew up in a time where half black and white meant you were, umm... black and you were treated as such. Then should have sent out a memo when that changed.

Jill,

Thanks for the post.

Recently it started to bother me that everyone in this country can so openly and easily celebrate Mexico's independence, but blacks dare not bring up Junetenth.

It is our sick and sad reality. Are we not even worth a toast with some sort of libations?

Anyway, I will settle for at least the recogintion amongst ourselves...in the dark.

Next year I am taking off from work!!

barryforobama,
You have stated everything that needs to be stated.

craig-i am totally with you!!!!

For the duration of the campaign, there have been some important/interesting issues to debate over. However, this in not one of them. I hope that this is taken in the right way, but this argument may be one of the DUMBEST I have ever posted a comment about.

1. he was not only talking about black fathers.

2.These are critical times, and there are critical issues that need to be addressed.

Did any of you who had a problem with the speech, even take the time to read the speech?

If you did, there is no way you would still be protesting. Except that you don't want to be wrong.

I have no words for how difficult it is to please black people.

Sometimes I wish that Senator Obama never ran for office. Everyob=ne has lost their collective minds.

I want to curse so badly right now, but I will just sign off and go to bed.

Peace black peolpe.

Ya'll make my ass hurt acting like he said something new.

I understand your premise, but maybe it is because I am a woman and I go to recipe websites, but there are 1000 ways to make delicious little cookies. And that my friend is very "all american".

Do yo work in corporate america, because my white coworkers bring all kinds of concoctions to the potlucks! And a lemon zested, shortbread cookies sounds like just the cookie they would bring.

You obviously have something very important to say about Senator Obama, "pimping" out the black community. Can you do me the honor of enlightening me to when he did or how he is doing this "pimping"?

Please. Help me to see the light.

I thought the same thing last year.

Once Obama announced that he was running. It seemed like every month a high profile black man was being brought down.

It was eerie.

And yes there will be a lot of "investigative" reporting about young black children and black women. I will be waiting and watching just like you.

in This Is Not Journalism on Jack and Jill Politics
This whole thing is a fairy tale.
For people in the public and in the media to act as if some black people in this country have not had experiences that were not pleasant is crazy!

Life for some blacks has not been no crystal stairs, even with an Ivy League education. Even Justice Thomas said that he graduated with no friends.

My cousin graduated from the #2 boarding/high school in the USA, has a dual degree in math/psych, graduated top of her class from UNC-CH. She had offers for employment all across this country and abroad.

Do some white people really think that being brilliant and qualified excluded her from prejudice and bigotry at work? Hell no!

Shit aint always pretty or perfect for some people. It can be a struggle even when you do things "right".

This campaign is bringing out the worst in people. They are acting simple.

If traveling the entire country for the first time, showed Mrs. O that there is more good than bad, then, damnit, she should feel new pride in her country. Everyone should be happy to her that report from her.

So in one breath 200 million people can say that they were surprised when Obama won in Iowa with a 98% white population. But when a black person acknowledges that they may have felt that same surprise as to what surprised everyone else in the world, then said black person is crazy, militant, anti-American or what just a regular ole complaining ass black?

Give me a break...I am with Bill on that line.

Anon 9.53: That is funny. So then, boxers have been doing a terrorist fist jab for decades. That is some dumb ish.

So now, the Obama’s are into Al-Qaeda. I would funny if it were not so sick. If people fall for that bull ish then they deserve McBush.

d,
Please tell when was the last conversation that you had with Senator Obama. I need to know when you learned how intelligently he can speak about defense spending??

He has some of the top advisors on the planet including an unofficial advisor in Colin Powell.

So even though he serves on the Senate Committees for Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Foreign Relations, Environment and Public Works, Veterans' Affairs Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and is the Chairman of the Senate's subcommittee on European you know more than him because you were a soldier or because you are conservative. Makes since to me.

But you all just know that she and Bill are sending all kinds of evelopes with pictures and dirty laundry to those superdelegates. I would hate to be a SD and for them to have some dirt on me.

Truthseeker,
I mean what is Lou Dobbs problem? I can understand taking a hard stance as an "objective" journalist, but he never has anything good to say about Senator Obama. Other than when he is chastising him, he will then throw in the occasionally, "I have not even gone after this MAN" blah blah blah.

I saw him on Booktv last week and he was a reasonable man, but when he gets on his show he turns into an ASS! ugh!!

Did SBO really say something about him personally??

in Boyce Watkins Nails It on Jack and Jill Politics
and yes that paragraph sums up my feelings in a nut shell. And it has nothing to do with giving Obama a "pass".
I attend a black church. I am a proud AME. I have been privileged to hear the likes of Dr. Wright, Frederick Haynes and Rev Jackson preach, but I am a reasonable person. And being reasonable, I think that it was a stretch to think that he would be able to remain at that church or any other church that spoke sooo much about politics. I think that it was best for the church as well.

He is still black. He may not break out the “X” t-shirt anytime soon, but he is still down. He is not a civil rights leader he is a US Senator.

With all the crap going in this country, we must have someone else to be disappointed in, I would think.

in Boyce Watkins Nails It on Jack and Jill Politics
g.d. WTH are you talking about? Black people have made enormous progress in the past few decades. What country are you living in? A black man invented email, ran time warner, american express, presidents of colleges and universities, more black lawyers and doctors than ever before in history. More black millionaires, small business owners. More blacks in city and state goverment than anytime in our history in this country.
Now if you are meaning that we have been unable to have people understand our struggles and respect our position, then I totally agree.

But other than that you are out of your freakin mind.

Most black people could not even vote until 1970. We have progressed like a mofo.

in Clinton Supporter Gets Her Ferraro On After The Rules Meeting on Jack and Jill Politics
I am with Jack.
I sincerely thank God that this thing is almost over. I really don’t know how much more of this I can take.

Can I just ask a dumb question? Why is it that there has been so much heated discussion about why a black person would be so wrong to vote for SBO because of racial pride, but when it comes to women voting for HRC it is understandable because it shows the progression of women in this country? And bless her heart, Harriett identifies with HRC and she is proud of her accomplishment. I don’t see anything wrong with that personally. Your vote is yours alone.

Anyway, like I said, it was a dumb question, but I had to ask.

To anon whenever - when the F did someone on this site say anything about “bros before hoes”? That is some shit the WHITE fraternity guys say, not black people you lame! Urban black youth “slang” is MOB, you big dummy! Lol
