It's solid and well coded. But for some sites it's not enough. It can actually get on the way, and make coding harder. For a complex site with very specific requirements, I'd always start from scratch.

It's all about needs. Sometimes using a framework theme such as Thesis is a good idea, but it's not the ultimate solution. A good web designer should help you choose what's best for you.

Re: Nokia 5800 ‘The Tube’ Launch Event

I can't believe only one person commented about Mark's intervew. They're good (well, RyanAir at least, I never flew Easyjet) if you're traveling with no luggage and no expectation. They don't care about the customer, they only care about charging outrageous fees for anything more than basic service. *IF* they do something like this, there'll be a million hidden fees.

When I flew JetBlue, on the other hand, I found myself thinking "Wow, I love this airline" (and not only because they offered free wifi on their terminal...). Then I turned my head and I saw this. Focal lenght is the right term. It means exactly "how wide the angle of the lens is" (at least for a fixed sensor size). Here's something from good ole' photo.net:

http://photo.net/learn/fov/

Re: Nokia’s N97 & The 5800: The trouble with 16:9

That's why I said "for a fixed sensor size". The correct term is indeed "field of view", but focal lenght is more commonly used as a measure of the view angle of a lens.

But yeah, what Ben said :)

Re: Exclusive: The search for the N…

Oooh I want a sticker too!

Re: Buy a Domain for Email or at Least a Gmail Account

This is exactly what I did recently. The N900 makes me go "oooh pretty!", and the N86 certainly looks good as a replacement for the N82.

But really, I have no reason to upgrade for the moment. My phone does pretty much everything I need. If Nokia would fix a few bugs it'd be perfect.

Re: Nokia Messaging, The End Of My/Your Woes?

I figured I'd give it another try after seeing this post. It still won't recognize my work email, and I don't see a way to set it up manually. And it insists on using my GPRS connection (and again I didn't see how to change that). I use 3 SIM cards regularly, and one doesn't even allow data. I'd like the option to check for emails manually over wlan.

Oh well, I guess I'll keep using Slick. Money well spent.

Re: Why the Ovi Store is still total bollocks

Today after a hard reset on my phone I finally got the Ovi Store client available to download. I figured I'd try it and see how many of my usual apps I could get through it. After all, Ovi has been working better lately — Ovi maps now works on all browsers and Ovi Sync magically started working again recently. Let's see:

Two worked fine (YouTube, Fring), seven weren't available (Slick, ProfiMail, Gmail, Opera Mini, Nokia Wireless Keyobard, Nokia Sports Tracker, Psiloc Traveller), and one I couldn't find via search even though I know for a fact it's on the store (Pixelpipe). Pretty much all these are very common S60 apps yet I couldn't find 70% of them, including two of Nokia's own apps.

Nope, the Ovi Store still sucks.

Re: Episode 37: First impressions of the Nokia N900 (Part 2)

Did you find the volume eventually? I would have tapped on the clock/battery/signal area, but that's because I've used the older tablets.

I can see there's no volume icon there on your video, though there seems to be one on the N900 website. Does the icon disappear when the volume is turned all the way down? That'd be a bad UI decision.

Re: Giffgaff announces more news on their pricing structure

You know what'd make me switch to a new operator? *Good* customer service. Even if it's only by email as Giffgaff is planing to do, I'd seriously consider switching if I every time I needed help I got it quickly and easily and without having to deal with a CSR who has no idea about what they're talking about.

I'd also like to not be raped with fees. I'm willing to pay a bit more for good service (the priority data access on the local cell idea is brilliant!), which is not the same as paying stupidly high fees for nothing.

I hope Giffgaff can do this. They'll have me as a customer if they do.

Re: Shopping at the OVI store…

Haha, priceless!

(Btw, I got an email from Ovi support once asking me for, among many other info, my passport number. I do lots of really cool things with it that really do make my life easier. I'd never buy an iPhone, because it can't do most of these things. However...

I COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MORE.

I love my Nokia because I'm a rare breed of mobile user. I'm a geek. I like to tinker with the device and I don't have a problem navigating through menues and cryptic error messages. I know that different Nokia phones have different OS even if they look mostly the same. But most people don't.

I bought my mom a phone last week. If money had been no object, I would have gotten her an iPhone. It's a dream to use for someone who doesn't know what an OS is or care about it (instead I got her a low end Samsung - oh my god, whoever designed the UI on that thing deserves very, very bad things). That makes up for a high percentage of the mobile users.

The iPhone has many flaws, yes. But it was conceived with the user in mind, and it shows. And that's why people love it, and that's why marketing people love it.
