This is a good move. Privacy by region doesn't really mean anything when anyone can claim to be from that region. It worked when everyone on Facebook was grouped by college (verified by email address), but not anymore.

I have not found a better place to express and discover ideas (and have a conversation around them) than FriendFeed.

Any particular reason why you don't want to leverage FF more?

This is also shows why twitter is stuck and is unable to add any real new functionality. So many have no idea how twitter replies work, or that "how" they tweet can effect who can see it, or that a reply can be linked to a status (if your app supports it, and if you use the reply button correctly). All these details are hidden from the average user, which is a big reason why twitter has seen so much success so far. But, since the twitter-verse can't seem to handle even this simple concept, I don't plan on there ever being additional metadata added to tweets.

I assume twitter has been doing this w/ their auto-tinyurls (and not just using tinyurl because it "looks nicer"). Having a birds-eye view of where everyone is visiting from twitter, even on desktop clients and phones, I imagine is a very valuable thing.

Really bad move, to suddenly start charging extra for something that is considered your core service.
The price difference between DVD and BluRay do not justify charging more, IMO.

What happens if I don't rent a BluRay disc that month?
What happens when BluRay discs decrease in price, are they going to remove the extra charge?
Why charge for BluRay, but not for InstantWatch? Are they waiting until everyone buys Roku boxes and feel invested?
