Hi, Joe. I've tried to add this feature to my Tumblr several times with no luck. After troubleshooting it to the full extent of my abilities, I wonder if you could help me out -

According to Last.fm I've listened to more than 5 artists in the past several days: http://www.last.fm/user/dmaddox1/charts?chartty...

It just started posting the results on the pipe page when I input my Last.fm username (dmaddox1):
http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=cfc1...

But when I insert the RSS url into my Tumblr "Customize" page, it still responds with "not a valid feed."

If you have any input as to why this would be the case, and what I can do to fix the feature, please let me know. Thanks.

There's a way to do it - usually having to do with the same section where you put the URL for the image. It will usually be something (depending whether HTML or CSS) like: "Postion: fixed;" Fixing the position on the background will, if done correctly, keep the background image still while all the page elements scroll around.

I'm not a web designer, though, and know next to nothing about coding. Search the web for hints or pointers, or email some of your Tumblr-friends. Most people on Tumblr are pretty quick to help out, especially if its something they're good at.

Hey David,

Yes, I am an avid fan of Wendell Berry. I have also read Stanley Hauerwas. Berry has been instrumental in shaping and changing how I look at the world. While I am not a big fiction reader I do enjoy reading Berry's. My whole family loves his books.

Yes, I am an ex-fundy Baptist. I have the scars to prove it. There are many of us...........since the Fundamentalist Church has such high churn rates. I have often said the methodology in such Churches is win them, wet them work them, and waste them. (and of course once they are wasted it is THEIR fault since they didn't keep on the true path of righteousness)

No, I agree with you heart and soul. The two people you quoted most certainly DO represent a very large and powerful fundamentalist wing of the American evangelical church - a very Southern, Dispenationalist, Christian-Nationalist version of the faith with an often misshapen view of the Church and it's gospel-given duty to change the world.

I saw in your bio that you're a self-professed ex "fundamentalist baptist." Me too. I'm sorry to say that I have family members who go to conferences such as these, and who believe, vote, and pray along lines drawn by such people as the one's quoted above.

It only took two minutes of looking for a bio of Mr. Rick Scarborough to discover that he was an alumnus of Dallas Theological Seminary. I'd guessed as much.

Sorry for the ambiguity in my previous comment - I didn't mean to sound hostile or in the least bit self-righteousness. I think you're right on. But I do lament for Churches and Church leaders that base the reading of their Bibles on a fundamentalist political ideology.

PS - I saw that you're a fan of Wendell Berry. I was blessed to have been introduced to Berry in college, and have been reading him for the past 6 or so years. GREAT stuff. Are you also a fan of Hauerwas?

But don't you think they represent a large segment of the Evangelical/Fundamentalist Christian Church?

I know their are millions of Christians who they don't represent but they are the minority and they certainly don't get the attention of the press.

I am hopeful that the media will begin to pay attention to the alternative voices in Christianity.

Dan - I tried to redo my StreamPad player on my tumblog, and now its acting up a bit.

I'm having a lot of trouble changing the color on the "poweredbycolor" field. It won't change from standard white (#ffffff), no matter what I enter in the "&poweredbycolor=XXXXXX" field. I've changed the track text and other colors, but I haven't been able to change the color of this 1 field...

Has anyone else been reporting problems changing this field? Any ideas on what the problem could possibly be?

I agree with David: "reductive jerk" is exactly right. Brands say nothing about us; why isn't this always understood about all allegiances except our own? And who can exhibit such pitiful insecurity without recognizing it for what it is and feeling shame?

I think the reason Americans feel comfortable saying they "trust" John Stewart and the Daily Show is because they know The Daily Show is unbiased in it's lampooning of network news, and that the show goes to length to expose the faults and silliness of both political parties and their leadership.

While I agree that The Daily Show is not a *substitute* for thoughtful investigative journalism, I think it's an absolutely necessary corrective to it. And I think the reason Stewart comes across as "trustworthy," is that The Daily Show isn't given pretty loose reign by Comedy Central to do as it pleases, and doesn't come across as commentary tailored to one-party or the other.

They're no good live? I can see that, I guess, since there is so much electronic noise involved.

They have also been sold out since for months and they were at a smaller venue, so I was ok with seeing Bon Iver as an alternative. I was pleased with the choice as well. :)

And even though Animal Collective is great, you most definitely made the right decision. Animal Collective REALLY sucks live (check out any video on YouTube and you'll see what I mean).

You can do that by editing your theme's code (specifically the part for audio posts) to include a download link for all externally-hosted mp3's. There are documents about it here.

Here's an example of how it looks on my Tumblr.

The code looks something like this:

From your dashboard, click "Customize"/Theme/Use Custom HTML".

Then, look for the part of the code that says: <div class="audio"> and then has your audio player, which looks something like this: {AudioPlayerblack}.

Note that It might not say "black" - it might say "AudioPlayerWhite" or "AudioPlayerGray" - and that's not important. What's important is that you add the following code right AFTER the "{AudioPlayerINSERT COLOR HERE}. The code to be inserted is:

{block:ExternalAudio}, Get this song{/block:ExternalAudio}

That should do it. If you click "update preview", save your changes, and visit your site, you should see the words "download" right after your audio post. To get the song via the link, right click and "save as."

Finished, it should look something like this:

<div class="audio"> {AudioPlayerblack} {block:ExternalAudio}, (change this to whatever you want it to say){/block:ExternalAudio}

You can change what how the link appears on your page (on my page it says "download"), by changing the term inside the "a" tag above.

Also, there's a helpful Firefox add-on that makes every audio post you view in the Firefox browser downloadable. You can check that out <http://bjornstar.com/post/41662530/tumtaster-so...>. Since I use firefox, it makes sharing songs very very easy.
