what i think duc de brabant is getting at is that the talking/doing dichotomy is a false one, that in the realm of politics--and, i would add, society at large--speaking is itself a powerful action.

my question is, why can't every administration put together a brain trust of the best and brightest? why does it take huge crises for that to happen? shouldn't that be the rule rather than the exception? and why should a government with a measure of intellect be derided? ugh.

yes, same. npr is definitely my main source of news (morning edition, all things considered, marketplace). i just use it, some internet, and no tv or print.

i know how you feel. i felt it big time in 2004. it must be worse though, since the candidate legitimately won this time, and actually has a sizable mandate. in other words, you know that most of the country really doesn't agree with you.
i recommend you stop thinking about politics for a while. venting on the internet endlessly won't really make you feel better (trust me, i know).
