It may well take 10 years to take as anticipated, though that seems like an eternity in the speedy time frame of the internet world in which we find ourselves.

Redeemer has been multi-site for years, and what has been suggested in the transition, if I heard it right, was to make an adjustment to the current model. The current one has a central unified leadership team, and each location has a teaching team rotation. The revised model will have a "face with a place" by appointing a campus pastor to each location. And, it is on par for churches employing a multi-site strategy to have to make structural and strategic changes over time.

The other thing I'll comment on is Tim Keller's recognition of his humanity and life span. It is a very challenging, and rare, for a large church pastor to so openly speak of a succession plan. And to do so with a transition in vision, structure, and strategy, quite the inspiration.

Re: Facebook Connect: Why? I'm finding that too many widgets and too many plugins add too many cogs in the wheel. Looking to streamline everything as much as possible by using fewer plugins and fewer widgets. And, lots of Facebook "friends" of mine rarely leave the safe womb of that place.

Re: Which is the best video interview style?

@dpark75, thanks for taking a look at these videos and providing your keen eye and evaluation! :)

Re: my multi-site church road trip this weekend

Matthew, well, looking at the printed version, there were several mini-articles there that had a "more online" footer -- which was to indicate that there was more to the mini-article online. Where a browser plug-in and/or desktop software password manager doesn't quite work is when I'm at someone else's computer or a kiosk or at the Apple Store, and then I can't get login anymore. And the examples of those who have fallen before us should be a wake-up call. And, of course, this topic applies for pastors and non-pastors alike, men and women alike.

But with all of that freely available and we're conscious of, what doesn't get voiced enough is:

(1) LEADERS who acknowledge their own frailty and WEAKNESS while they are in that leadership role, granted not share it every Sunday from the pulpit but share it often and regularly with a trusted few,

(2) showing how to CONFESS for those who are in the midst of an affair and feel like they're stuck and choose to keep trying to hide it and get away with it, if the survey stats are any indicator of those who are living a double life.

Warning each other to stop, to take precautions, to have accountability is good, and yet I wonder if that's becoming a familiarity that breeds contempt. If this blog post can stop one affair that's about to happen, and gets a person who is in the middle of an affair to stop and confess, then it'll all be worth it.

Re: Pastors. I did say "free or paid"! :) *ahem*

The business model of "freemium" has a lot of advantages over a custom solution, because a custom solution is developed to very particular specifications and then fades into obsolescence, so I'm less inclined to that approach.

My persuasion is that a (good) web app will have an on-going subscriptions that provide enough revenue to keep it sustainable with a sizeable user base to provide feedback to keep improving the app.

As for teaching an online class, there are some good things we can learn from distance education on how to do that. It may be sufficient to teach a multi-user class via an off-the-shelf webinar service, and then use the chat room for discussion and Q&A.

Re: How to stream and record video chat interview

@Steve, @Mike, @Damon: yes, yes, and yes. So what practical ways have you found effective to implement a paradigm change and to raise up new Chinese American ministry leaders? And yes, this discussion topic does bear some resemblance to the older email listserv. Now in the online world, if it's not searchable and findable via Google, then it doesn't exist. So this blog post should surface the topic for all to find and join in.

@Daniel, great thoughts. Thanks for writing them out on your blog post.

@dannyyang, sorry to hear of the rejection - that never feels good, for whatever reason. What does that really look like in the real world? Is there a perfect "biblical" model for every leader in every context?

Re: how churches get embedded with values

I wonder if the tyranny of the urgent and the over-prioritizing of the practical and short-term results has kept us from entering the much needed, and much absent, conversations that need to happen in a global multiethnic multicultural Christianity. The beautiful possibility of a multicultural Christian community is to have relationships that form a foundation for each of us to see more clearly beyond one's own cultural lenses. We all have blind spots, and we all have insights into other cultures, and together, we can uphold a richer Gospel.

Re: how to define strategic planning

Morrie, thanks for the tip about the LinkedIn group http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=1878448 and the book, "Nonprofit Strategy Revolution: Real-Time Strategic Planning in a Rapid-Response World"

Re: how churches get embedded with values

thanks for reply; so how could it be better written?

Re: how churches get embedded with values

questions are perceived as questioning authority or lacking faith; and some don't wrestle with the complexities and uncertainties and mysteries of faith, choosing a
simplistic or dogmatic faith

Re: pumped up to take a flying leap of faith

Role models are a big part of what shapes us as people, and as leaders. So, if during a leadership conference, we only hear from entrepreneural leaders of large churches, while that is very motivational and energizing, I also wonder about how that shapes the rest of us who are not entrepreneural, not large church pastors, not conference speakers.

Re: blog tour by Outreach Convention people

Nope, couldn't make it to Gospel Coalition.. have never been.. would love to go one day.
