Time data can be exported in CSV or XML formats, but these files can not yet be imported directly into Quickbooks. However, we are planning to add this capability soon. Thanks for asking!

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I can only imagine that was a costly and frustrating experience.

While I can't really speak to the reliability of other products and services, I can assure you that we take every reasonable precaution to protect our users' data. We backup our databases offsite periodically throughout the day. Furthermore, we allow users to download complete backups of their data. These backups can even be used to restore an account later.

Please let me know if you have specific questions about our data protection policies.

Matt - We very recently released expense tracking. I'm writing up an overview of all the new features that will be posted to our News within a day. We're still working on invoicing, but we do have time reports (including billable amounts) as well as expense reports complete.

Martin - Thanks for following up on this. We very realistically expect to release expense tracking within a week. If you read my earlier comments, you'll see that I made the same statement several weeks ago. The reason for this delay is that, in testing our new features, we realized that the whole experience could be improved by releasing several related improvements at the same time.

I'm sorry that we haven't done a great job communicating our schedule, but I can assure you that you won't have to wait much longer. :)

Thanks so much for your comments and your subscription, Luis! I appreciate your willingness to pay early, but your first invoice won't be processed until your 30 day trial ends, even if you've already entered your credit card.

We're building our expense tracking features to be very flexible, so you'll be able to track a variety of different expenses, including all those that you've mentioned. I'm trying to put the finishing touches on these features in the next couple days, and then we'll do some thorough testing before the release.

Good article! My company switched to Macs a couple years ago and have not looked back. We find Macs to be more robust and provide a better user experience than Windows. And, as you point out, there's very little you can't do on a Mac thanks to SaaS.

By the way, Fluid is a great free utility that can be used to create site specific browsers (SSBs) for any web application. SSBs help web apps feel more like desktop apps: they run without all the browser "chrome" (toolbars, menus, etc.), they display their own application icon in your dock, run in their own process for improved stability, and can even display event notifications. For instance, our time tracking service displays the time of the active running timer on its dock badge when running as a Fluid SSB.

Thanks for your interest, Jamie. That's certainly a fair question, since our expense tracking and invoicing features have definitely taken longer than expected to implement. We have been working hard to get these features right and plan to release expense tracking very soon, hopefully within a week. We're really pushing to complete invoicing by the end of the year. In order to meet this goal, our initial invoicing release may lack some features we've planned, such as invoice customization, which we will add ASAP.

We are also investigating integration opportunities with several accounting services, including Quickbooks, SAASU and Clarity Accounting. Thanks for your vote for SAASU.

Thanks for your code, Dennis. It works well to detect if cookies can be accepted by browsers, but does not necessarily detect if Safari's "Private Browsing" mode has been enabled. In this mode, new cookies can apparently be created but cookies created outside of "Private Browsing" mode will not be overwritten. This can create almost as many problems for cookie-based sessions as if cookies were not accepted at all.

I've modified your solution to also test for this case. In order to do this, I set the test cookie to a dynamic value, such as the current time. I then check whether the cookie has been set to the dynamic cookie value to ensure that "private browsing" has not been enabled.

In order for this to work, you unfortunately can't delete the cookie after the test. Otherwise, the test won't recognize when the user had a previous session created outside of private browsing mode that they are now trying to change in private browsing mode.

NOTE: I tried to post this comment earlier with a bit of javascript source in my comments, but DISQUS wasn't happy so I trimmed my code out.

Thanks very much for your feedback, Jeffrey. Although LiveTimer Mini does not have a Manage tab, did you realize that you can still use it to create clients, projects and tasks on the fly? When editing the classifications for a time entry, either in the timer or ledger, look at the top of the selector for buttons to add new classifications. Depending on how your account is configured, these buttons might be labeled "+ Client", "+ Project" and "+ Task".

If you want to manage quite a bit of data, the full Manage interface is only a couple clicks away from Mini mode. Of course, on devices such as the iPhone, it's not quite as easy to navigate in the full-sized "Standard" mode, so I can understand how a Manage tab within Mini mode would be more convenient. Thanks for your suggestion.

Thanks for the tip about configuring twitter searches in TweetDeck. I've been using TweetDeck as well, but didn't realize that it has this capability. Apparently you need to expand its width beyond three columns in order for all of the tool buttons, including Search, to appear.
