in The man from DelMonte - He say Yes! on iPhone-dev blog
im in the same situation.... my iPhone is permanently in Recovery Mode and whenever i try to Restore the Pwned image i get the 1600 error...

In fact whatever firmware i Restore back to i always get the 1600 error.

So the question is do i need to get it into DFU mode? because when using the pwnage tool to get it into DFU mode it doesn't seem to make a difference...

any suggestions anyone? :(

in Why The iTouch Is Inevitable on A VC
the whole point of the iPod Touch is that you can decide to use it as you see wish..

if you don't want to synch music or photos you don't have to...

if you don't want to synch podcasts you don't have to..

but at the minimum its a computing platform which allows you to install applications (e.g. Sonos player duh!) -- do you would expect it to have 8Gb of storage for people that want to download games, etc..

pointless discussion -- the iTouch is already there.. its called the iPod.

in To update or not to update? on iPhone-dev blog
I have the 2G iPhone with the specially created 2.0 firmware created via pwnage tool.

If i upgrade to the 2.01 firmware updated, if i understand correctly it will upgrade without needing it to be pnwed?

If if it fails for whatever reasons -- does anyone know if i can just restore back to the 2.0 pwned firmware?

JS Same here.... I have a 2G iPhone, and updated to the 2.0 firmware using the pwnage tool!
CAN I UPGRADE to the 2.1 firmware?

p.s. Sorry for being stupid, but I am genuinely confused!

in Apple Investors it’s the GDP or Bust on Investor in the Wilderness
zach -- your refer the 50EMA resistance on the SPX today.... and if we break through that based on positive news on GDP and/or Jobs... we may have a bit of a run up...

but i notice that we may hit another wall of resistance at the 50% retracement at 1315 (you mentioned 1300)...
Seems to me we could expect a sell off that level -- and we need to watch AAPL more on the potential 1300 resistance -- if not today but certainly Monday/Tuesday...

Zach Bass I would expect that the 1315 level will coincide with 165 for AAPL. And you're probably right that we will experience significant resistance at that level. Now whether or not we have a selloff, that's debatable, but it would seem to make sense to sell into strength as we approach that level, because some sort of bounce or pull back is likely.

Of course if the GDP and Jobs numbers are stellar, it's possible to just blow right through those levels. But I wouldn't count on that.

in Decision 2008: Google Apps vs. Apple’s MobileMe on danielmiessler.com | grep understanding

google'd rate if innovation has slowed down to a crawl, Apple are incentivized to make mobileme highly integrated with the iPhone and the Nac.

Battle lines gave been drawn.

iPhone/MobileMe
Android/gApps
WinMibile/Live

All are heading in the same direction - Apple is the first to feliver a higjly integrated sokution - whoever dominates as the most popular mobile platform wins - but let's remember this us the beginning of a big ecosystem that will evolve in the next 10 years.

When companies are giving it away for free there is jess incentive to innovate in the long run, only Apple is making money from this.

I was all on Google apps, but my life revolves around my iPhone much more, so i need to review things. I will likely keep my iPhone subscription to see how it evolves.

in How ’bout them iPhones? on Apple TV Hacks
i think Apple will allow us to control the Apple TV content from the iPhone.

I dont see any real advantage in streaming directly from the iPhone, especially since all that content is on your primary Mac/PC.

Its more likely that they will provide an application which allows you to control the AppleTV without needing to have your TV switched on...

in Photography on a Mac on Life is grand
Paul,

I think you are fundamentally missing the point.

Tools like iPhoto or Aperture, etc... provide Library Management as well photo touching/metatdata...

The whole point of applications like iLife (including iTunes) is to abstract the filesystem (your not supposed to delve down there). Im afraid that you are so used to living in Windows (Explorer metaphor) that you are struggling to realise that you need to 'manage' everything through the application.

If you use iTunes it works in a similar way...

in Apple TV rocks on Scobleizer
AppleTV is an extension to your HD Plasma TV and works just like an iPod (except wirelessly).

AppleTV auto sychs (wirelessly) all the media you have on your mac/pc iTunes library.

Simple as that, if its in iTunes its in AppleTV. (e.g. videos, podcasts, tv-shows, movies, audiobooks)

If you have your own DVD's or AVI or WMV or DIVX files you can convert them to MPEG-4 (.mp4/H.264) then they can be managed by iTunes. Once you have that done, they will auto-synch with AppleTV.

in Why not turn off DRM on Disney movies? on Scobleizer
Scoble -- your cleverly missing the point.

Steve Jobs was righfully turning the attention of the Europeans heat back to the record labels. its their content -- they're the ones screwed by CD's they have to work out how to make the business model work. DRM or No-DRM.

Turning the attention to Movies, which is not nearly as mature for piracy, or ripping or downloads is missing the point, as mentioned by the other contributors here. DVD-ripping is illegal. Why would Steve Jobs advocate that?

This is a great and Bold step that Steve Jobs has taken, perhaps under pressure, but nevertheless, to be applauded.

We could do with a bit less cynicism around your posts. -- Please! :)

in AppleTV: Xbox without the “X?” on Scobleizer
Woa Scoble.

DOA bit strongly worded.

I think 99% of consumers couldnt care less whether its 780 or 1080. In time it will support 1080. In time it will have a larger HDD. In time you will do VOD streaming directly from iTunes. In time you can buy music from iTV.

In time. Apple is about incremental evolution and leverage.

Thats something MS doesn't get. MS preaches to the geeks. Apple preaches to the mass-consumers.

Who wins?

then when the new version of google reader came out i thought its performance was amazing..

that said ive switched to the earlier view of google reader.

I also agree FF2(Windows) rocks. FF2(Mac) sucks!

I like the fact that my feeds are in one place whichever machine/mobile/location that im at.
