in Is Facebook a predator’s nirvana? on ForgeBusiness Affiliate Marketing News and Insights
It was just a matter of time vs. numbers :- )

Your point about 'evil' relates to one of my favorite pet peeves - when people go all blindley-gobly-gook-eyed paranoid whenever the word tracking or profiling is mentioned - especially in the context of marketing.

The reality is the better marketing systems get to know me the less likely they are to present me silly irrelevant offers (I'll refrain from citing embarasing examples). In a sense privacy has been a figment of the imagination for a while, and I don't see this changing, we might as well try and get it to work in our favor.

But I'll admit I like the creepy soundtrack :-)

in Is Facebook killing the blogosphere? on ForgeBusiness Affiliate Marketing News and Insights
Hey Billy
Great observation. You've got me thinking maybe nobody explained to Yahoo that you cant 'get' web2.0 regardless the pricetag - its almost as if you have to 'give' otherwise it looses the magic ingredient, the stuff of autopoetic growth.

in Where is the traffic headed? A new trend in online advertising. on ForgeBusiness Affiliate Marketing News and Insights
I think in a way the 'decentralized web' and its Web 2.0ish premise of 'user driven distribution' is doing something very similar to what for example the VCR of old, and TIVO and the like does with broadcast media. You want your message in the feed, not hidden somewhere next to the ghost-town facing shop front window that the conventional web page is becoming. The tighter marketing can be integrated with desirable content the better. Of course, this demands more of the marketing as well, screw up the user experience with disjointed or irrelevant advertising and the content channel will loose its desirability faster than a media buyer can say 'Advertising is dead, long live advertising'.

in A case of cybersquatting and Facebook on Paul Jacobson
hmmm, I hear you Paul, but then again - it looks like he is trying to put together something that offers actual value. I'm no legal expert but surely if Facebook have an issue with what he is doing they'd have to send him some kind of cease and desist request before going all legal on him?

update, he/they've put up a kind of facebook fan blog in the last few hours. Interesting that they don't expose their identity in the blog, not even links to their/his facebook profile - if they are such huge addicts I'd like to have a squiz at those profiles and history :-)

in Patricia De Lille wants censorship of blogs on Paul Jacobson
surely politicians with aspirations for leadership positions have more important things to worry about than anonymous comments from strangers?

in Why Do New Media Types Like Multiples on Chris Brogan
At the risk of sounding overly simplistic, me-thinks because we can…
No seriously, chances are you develop a little something here, here then realize with a little tweak you could plug it into that over there - and as IT turns out - over there is very seldom more than a gesture away.

'Why not stick with one?' - as many reasons as there are projects, maybe more - but every project also has its mundane boring and frustrating bits. Sometimes being able to step away and come back to it from a different perspective and mindset is is usefull.

Then again maybe we're just suckers for punishment ;-)
