in WTP???!!! on Shakesville
A portion of this movie was filmed down the street from where I live. (A wedding reception scene - I recognized the room in the preview.) I'd only heard vague things re what it was about -- but the trailer alone stands as definitive proof that it will suck big time.

Since it's cable rather than broadcast, I suppose they could change the name to the Bullshit Network ("The BS", trademark). But then the same idiots who watch their shitty programs would surely complain about such awful language.

Liss, enjoy your moment. Bask in the glow. You are one of the devoted, hard working people who made this happen. Thank Maude it is now clear that the majority of citizens have had enough of, well, all that stuff that I don't want to get into right now. I'm savoring the moment too.

If you're on the North Shore of Boston, I'll probably be watching returns at an event sponsored by Democrat John Tierney, 7-11 pm, at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, MA....

You can also get info at Our Vote Live ( http://www.ourvotelive.org/home.php ) though it's been, for me, an almost painfully slow site. I did find out that at least one polling place in town is demanding picture IDs from every voter.

What I ask myself every time I see video of McCain or any one of his lying political ads is: Doesn't he ever get tired of himself? I've sure as hell had enough.

Never been a fan as Cook never became in my mind any kind of "comedian" I recognized, and eventually I'd heard enough about him to be glad that was the case. He's apparently a professional asshole.

I sent in my opinion, part of which is below:
I do not understand how the "conscience" of health care providers can be seen to allow refusal of needed and perfectly legal health care. Should a care provider's conscience preclude provision of these services, I submit that the provider is in the wrong business. The solution to the apparent dilemma of providers and institutions in this position is most certainly not to curtail patients' access to these services.

Just gets added to the list of things I don't like about Obama. (Notice I don't like things *about* Obama, while I despise McCain. Just pointing that out.)

I, too, was working in downtown Boston that day, but used to work on lower Broadway in the shadow of the WTC. Walked over there to get my new eyeglasses at a place in the concourse below. What I felt on 9/11 - the horror - has been kept alive (albeit at a lower level) by exactly the type of ongoing shit you point out, zuzu. I'm so sick and fucking tired of the calculated, shameless bullshit that I'd like to scream.

Hang tough. (Not that you need me to tell you that; I think you will anyway.) Sending supportive thoughts via telepathy. Or the internet. One or the other.

I wasn't aware of Frank's new book until I came across the dismissive review in the NY Times. That the man has been right about everything for 10+ years now apparently counts for nothing with some folks. I look forward to adding this book to my Thomas Frank shelf.

That's great! I knew Depp rocked, anyway (despite the third Pirates movie), but it's nice to know he's not alone.
BTW, those underwhelmed by Colin Farrell (as I was) are hereby ordered to rent In Bruges. If he and Brendan Gleeson aren't noticed by the goddamn half-assed Oscars, then I'll know it's time to ignore the Academy altogether.

Great show. I was waaaay too old for it, per the supposed target audience, and I don't even remember how I found it, but it's bloody brilliant.

As a long time NYer subscriber, I can say definitely that their choosing, beginning several years ago, to run "topical" covers has been consistently unsuccessful. They typically are the worst covers in any given year.
Re this particular drawing, it fails on an absolutely spectacular level to be at all satirical. It's just dumb.

Yeah, creepy, like most said already. Creepy can be a good end in itself, but that's clearly not the intent here.
There were a few jabs at the artist's skills above - and that I'm not sure I agree with. Fabricating these pieces would indeed take some skill, and that includes drawing ability (even if on a computer).
Still, the fact that the end result in every case is ugly, offensive, and just plain stupid tells us all we need to know about this two-bit artist.

Long, long ago I heard somebody (no idea who) talking about Chuck Berry's "Johnnie B Goode" on NPR. His take was that the song seems to have always been around, as if it had existed back when there was nothing else but primordial ooze.
You can take that a couple of ways, some of which are pretty insulting to Mr Berry. I think he's not only taken for granted but that his craft, in both songwriting and guitar playing, is often barely taken into account.
Thanks for the reminder Neddie. Sometimes it seems Keith Richards is the only one acknowledging the master.

If I know that Winwood tune, I don't know that I know it. Not familiar with that album, really. (I had to look up what the hell it was.)
I don't really have this problem, at least in its malignant state. Tunes pop into my head all the time - sometimes unwelcome - but they never stay long. I'm always on to the next thing before I realize it.
I do like Dan's suggestions, though.
