in U.S. finance system potentially only days away from ‘complete meltdown’ on The New Mexico Independent
The two-bit financial wizards want to take hundred of billions of our money to buy illiquid assets from the irresponsible and greedy U.S. financial institutions. The root problem is the poor leadership of pompous Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and the inept FED Chairman Ben Bernacke. They should be fired immediately! Now the lobbyists descend on Congress to make the bailout plan a "christmas tree" for special interests!!!!!!!!!!

in Pearce to Udall: You are ‘breathtakingly liberal’ on The New Mexico Independent
Just as Wall Street has turned its back on America, so has the government. The Bush administration and his minion Stevan Pearce have kept American incomes low by opposing hikes in the minimum wage; shunning policies to modernize infrastructure, making college more affordable, and boosting spending on basic scientific research. This is an exteme right wing idealogue - who has no concept how the average American is struggling. However he is for welfare for the corporations. Mr. Pearce is illiberal through and through.

Yeah and Congressman Pearce is a "breathtaking" Bush political hack - screwing the average New Mexican and worshiping the oil companies. He doesn't care about the average economically strapped New Mexican family. Go back to Hobbs - Mr. Pearce and count your oil money!

Here is a direct quote from the NRA to all members on Mr. Ed III:
"You might question, and rightly so, why you should support someone running for office from New Mexico. The answer is that you should support candidates who represent your needs and views. In the case of Ed Tinsley, we have a proven candidate who understands the foodservice industry and what it needs. It doesn't matter whether this person is from Iowa, New York or New Mexico. He would be a voice in Congress for the restaurant industry." He was not represent Southern New Mexicans

in CD2: Tinsley airs first TV ad of general election on The New Mexico Independent
I saw Congressional candidate, Ed Tinsley III's deceptive TV ad. He tries to pretend that his wife humbly worked behind a cash register at their first restaurant franchise. At the time his wife was extremely wealthy from her family's oil investments. That is probably why he was able to acquire all of the 23 Schlotzsky's restaurants in New Mexico and California. It helps to have a wealthy wife. The man of the people is a sham! He will only represent the National Restaurant Association and its agenda. Harry Teague will honestly support us in Southern New Mexico.

in Group again calls Pearce corrupt despite letter clearing him on The New Mexico Independent
There is new info in the CREW report. "Rep. Pearce was the president of Lea Fishing Tools from which, in 2002, he drew a salary of $277,352 and held stock worth between $1 and $5 million. In the fall of 2003, Rep. Pearce sold the company’s assets to Key Energy, in exchange for 542,477 shares of common stock. The value of the stock at the time was $5.2 million. During an October 29, 2003 conference call, however, the president of Key Energy said Lea Fishing Tools was purchased for $12 million. Rep. Pearce failed to report the transaction on his 2003 financial disclosure report, and the $6.8 million discrepancy remains unresolved. In the 2003 report, Rep. Pearce indicated only that he was the president of Trinity Industries, Inc. “F/K/A Lea Fishing Tools, Inc.” and that he held between $5 and $25 million of stock in the company. Given that all of Lea Fishing Tools’ assets were transferred to Key Energy, it appears that Trinity Industries may be a holding company for the Key Energy stock, but this is unclear." There is $6.8 million discrepancy.
There was a class action after the acquisition of Lea Fishing by Key Energy.
The complaint charges Key Energy and certain of its officers and
directors with violations of the Securities Exchange Act of
1934. Key Energy is the world's largest rig-based, onshore well
service company. The Company provides diversified energy
operations, including well servicing, contract drilling,
pressure pumping, fishing and rental tool services and other
oilfield services.
"The complaint alleges that during the Class Period, defendants
misrepresented the strength of Key Energy's financial results.
Throughout the Class Period, defendants repeatedly stated that
Key Energy's financials were strong and improving and that it
had strengthened its competitive position to benefit once market
conditions improved. In fact, the Company's financial statements
were materially misstated and not nearly as favorable as
reported. As a result of defendants' misstatements, Key Energy's
securities traded at artificially inflated levels. Defendants
were thus able to complete a $150 million note offering in May
2003 and to exchange 542,477 shares of Key Energy stock in the
acquisition of Lea Fishing Tools, Inc. in September 2003.
On March 15, 2004, Key Energy announced it would delay filing
its 2003 Form 10-K so that it could review the classification of
fixed assets during 2003. Later, on March 29, 2004, Key Energy
announced it would be taking write-downs of $83 million to
reflect good will impairment and would restate its prior year's
financial statements. Then on June 7, 2004, before the market
opened, Key Energy announced it was withdrawing earnings
guidance for 2004. The Company also disclosed that if it failed
to obtain a waiver for its default on its senior notes, it would
be in default. On this news, the Company's stock collapsed to as
low as $7.00 per share before closing at $8.67 on volume of 13.9
million shares. This was a 37% drop from the Class Period high
of $13.96."
It appears that Congressman Pearce had prior knowledge of the Key Energy situation. What happened to the Key Energy stock Pearce had in his possession after the Lea Fishing deal? Pearce should EXPLAIN the whole transaction! He made a fortune on a dubious stock transaction.

in Senate debate confirmed on The New Mexico Independent
This debate will be good for Congressman Udall. For instance, Congressman Steve Pearce strongly condemned Democrats for trying to implement government-run health care with legislation intended to help low-income children afford health insurance. Then he lies when he says that the "legislation makes those with incomes as high at $80,000 eligible for the program and is open for fraudulent abuse by illegal aliens." He deliberately miscontrued the bill to fool New Mexicans. We are not fooled by his political antics that could have helped uninsured children. The debate should bring this out. Also the debate should indicate Mr. Pearce's continous opposition to renewables and to real benefits to our servicemanin the past . If I was Mr. Pearce with such a heinous record, I would be "staling and ducking the debates." Hopefully New Mexicans will realize his so-called values campaign are a scam. His only value is to serve the oil companies.

in Pearce unveils new TV ads, slams Robert Redford as ‘the kind of ultraliberal activist that Tom Udall has allied himself with over the years’ on The New Mexico Independent
We should be asking directly and publicly for the extreme outrageous conservative Mr. Pearce to stand up and defend the votes he made against the interests of New Mexico and the country. He has one of the worst records of selling out to the oil companies. He constantly opposed renewable energy. If I was a Republican I would be ashamed of him. Heather Wilson should have been the nominee. Even McCain wants to distance himself from this irresponsible ultra right candidate tied to the lobbyists.
It is funny that Mr. Pearce is now so concerned about high gas prices since he has been in a form of hibernation since he was first elected in 2003. In 2007 Mr. Pearce was the only member of our congressional delegation to vote against Corporate Average Fuel Economy Standards (CAFÉ) to increase auto fuel efficiency standards. This has plagued the auto industry. Mr. Pearce, I am sorry - you had five years in office, and you absolutely did nothing to help New Mexico families. With $200,000 from the oil industry, it is your first priority not America. Tom Udall may not have all the answers, but he is the best candidate to grapple with the nation's energy crisis.
The ads show that "Drillbit" Pearce is the problem, and he has no answers for our energy crisis except to give more billions of dollars to the oil companies!

in NEWS ANALYSIS: Harry Teague walks a tightrope on energy issues on The New Mexico Independent
I would interview Mr. Edward Tinsley III who has announced his dubious energy policy. This oil investor makes the simple-minded observation - "Energy and the economy are directly tied at the hip." Then he goes on to say he has no quick fix - just drill and drill and drill including in Otero Mesa. The salt basin aquifer in Otero Mesa has the largest untapped freshwater in the region. Now Mr. Tinsley wants to risk contaminating this invaluable aquifer by drilling in the porous geology of Otero Mesa. The best estimate of the amount of natural gas beneath Otero Mesa is equal to about two weeks worth of U.S. demand. The BLM has called it insignificant. However, we need facts not the typical partisan rhetoric. New Mexico should wake up to the meaningless campaign statements of Mr. Tinsley on the issues. He just wants to become a mouthpiece for the oil industry - pure and simple.
In contrast, Mr. Harry Teague, a real owner of an energy company has a comprehensive policy to deal with the energy crisis. This policy includes a package of tax incentives that extend and expand tax credits for investments in clean power and fuels, for homeowners, companies, and utilities. Tax credits should also be made available to help establish wind farms and solar mirrors in Southern New Mexico. A true energy crisis requires extraordinary means. He is also for more drilling where it will absolutely contribute to our energy needs. If you want a solid energy policy that can be successfully implemented, New Mexicans should vote for Harry Teague, who will be a knowledgeable Congressman on energy matters.
Oil drilling is a complex matter. From the article Mr. Haussamen is looking for simple answers. There are easy no answers. Even the U.S. House of Representative’s Oversight and Government Reform Committee is now investigating the "process called hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, used in the creation of gas wells, which allegedly has caused contamination of the drinking water in several locations around the country. In the fracking process, water, sand and other materials are injected deep into underground wells at high pressure to force out gas, which can then be recovered."
Gas companies not only inject diesel fuel into the fracking liquid as a part of their drilling, but also inject benezine, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene into the liquid, which in turn can contaminate drinking water especially with the porous geology of Otero Mesa.
In addition there is a lack of oversight on the drilling process. Then we have the irresponsible drilling advocates. What a combination for disaster.

The partisan and notorious Pearce pollster is Arthur Finkelstein, a GOP public relations maven and operative, campaign consultant and the head of Arthur J. Finkelstein & Associates. He has directed a series of campaigns, considered to be quite successful, to elect conservatives in the past 25 years. He runs Arthur J. Finkelstein and Associates, a political consulting firm, which handles clients like Pearce. In February 2005, he and his firm launched what he hoped would be the death blow to the political aspirations of Hillary Clinton. Now he is trying to do in Udall with unreliable polls and other tactics.
