in The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Harvard Student Linked to Kirkland Shooting Denies Involvement on The Harvard Crimson
A very interesting element has not been mentioned in all the harrumphs about bias and the stench of moldy old white men in the Harvard administration. Ms. Campbell's fate ultimately rests in the hands of Prof. Evelynn Hammonds, the Dean of Harvard College. As a gay woman of color and an accomplished scientist from the South who grew up in an era somewhat less inclusive than today, Dean Hammonds may know a thing or two about what it means to feel unfairly singled out.

That does not necessarily translate into leniency, however. Sometimes those who have worked hardest to overcome obstacles develop advanced BS-detectors and low tolerances for the sound of whining.

You must be confused. No freshmen live on the Radcliffe campus. As for house assignments, they have been randomized for a number of years.

in Pressure On Napolitano to Keep Up Workplace Raids on The Washington Independent
I applaud Mr. Sessions efforts.

It is far past the time that the CFR stooges in all facets of government be exposed and held accountable for their traitorous undemining of the United States.

Napolitano is just one of legion.

I want my country BACK.

I read it too. An amusing series, actually, but definitely light fare. All good "Myths", if you will. I haven't seen that picture in years.

I can't believe you didn't mention the lawsuit that the rights holders of the Beatles songs created against the Rutles. Following the lawsuit, all of the Rutles songs now list Lennon/McCartney as co-writers.

jhannes In this example, I agree with you that the technique isn't too useful in this particular instance. The places I've used this has been for things like String validation rules, complex calculations with many simple input data but many special rules etc. The example is meant to illustrate the technique, but it might be a poor example.

I can't find the source of this example so I don't understand the reason behind the Tab class. Maybe you could explain how this class came about.

How can you do a review of the soundtrack and not mention "I Wish You Well" by Anna Waronker, which she covered herself in her album "Anna"?
JonCummings Actually, I initially was going to post "I Wish You Well" -- a song I love -- but chose not to for some reason. Good on you for mentioning it, though! I need to check Anna's album out.

in Boiling Point: Everything is Overrated on Film School Rejects
I know what you're getting at here, at the same time, this attitude can be (and by certain people, often is) taken too far.

I have a friend who pretty much hates everything popular, and loves anything that's not. I agree, a lot of crap films, books, etc. get attention when they shouldn't, while a lot of great films, books, etc. go unnoticed. However, this isn't always the case. Sometimes, art gains notoriety because it really is good.

The Dark Knight would be one of those films. No, it's certainly not the second coming of Christ that some made it out to be, however, it IS one of the best films of 2008. (although, it's helped by the fact that this has been an abysmal year for film)

How popular something is shouldn't really even come into the equation when judging it. And just as it makes me angry when people assume if something is unpopular, it's not good... it annoys me just as much when people assume that if it's popular, it must not be good.

in Charles Taylor’s Son Get 97 Years In U.S. Torture Case on heave-ho.org
What gall and cinicism! After Abu Ghraib, Afganistan, Guantanamo and all the CIA renditions, the USA still thinks it has one iota of moral stature to do a trial like this? As a country, it should tuck its tail between its legs and hide in shame.
