Nokia seem to be unaware that with little to differentiate them from challengers (apart from momentum) customer experience is going to become increasingly important.

On the bright side, I still think Ovi is better than App World.

Re: Poll: What’s the best network for the iPhone?

I actually plotted my O2 data usage last week. For your data viewing pleasure:
http://tinyurl.com/yaa44x3

Re: Skype: Am I missing something?

I used to be a great Skype advocate - but that's because I'm an expat and it was, at the time, the best way to keep in contact with friends and family back home. I had skype on my laptop, I had the original Skype mobile when it first came out, and I even had the Phillips VoIP841 (which is the WORST bit of tech I have ever bought), and I was a registered beta tester for Skype on Windows Mobile.

My GF moved to the USA last week, so I was ready to fire up Skype again and get back into the swing. Got all three devices fired up.

The voice quality on the desktop client was crap.
The voice quality on the VoIP841 was abysmal - its now unplugged forever.
The Three phone refused to top up even after a 30 minute chat to support.

Finally got the desktop version working to an agreeable level (it turned out that the VoIP841 was swamping my local net). Fire up the webcam and... can't understand every second word. (20Mb connection as well...)

So - I install a really tiny application for google mail (works on gmail and google apps for your domain). Within 5 minutes I am having crystal clear conversations, complete with video, *in my web browser*

All this and skype is still trying to sell me on HQ video at every freaking twist and turn - the entire application is designed to sell more skype stuff.

Pull your finger out Skype and fix the basic service. Until then, you will find me on google talk.

Sorry - rant over.

Re: Broadcom develops 802.11n chip for mobiles

Without impacting battery life? Really? That's a mighty big promise!

Colour me sceptical though - the bottleneck in getting data from point A to a phone is usually the device OS itself... or the back-end 'net connection... or the serving application.

Also, downloading faster doesn't mean you will save battery. Intelligent software design is the best way to save battery life on Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi suffers because it is always "on" (unlike GSM which drops into a low power mode until paged).

My final concern is that I barely see manufacturers advertising 802.11G - its just Wi-Fi. I wonder if N will really be a differentiator.

Re: T-Mobile G1: 7 Things I Hate About You

How does it compare to the iPhone on O2? This is my first time on O2 and I'm finding their network speed and response times somewhat lacking.

Re: Vodafone Storm launched today; hits shops on 14th

Unfortunately 2 year contracts have been standard in Australia since the day dot.

One of the things I do appreciate is that operators here still give you the choice to pay a "bit" more for a 12 month contact... If people are willing to pay, then let them.

Of course it brings back the age old argument - do operators sell minutes, or do the finance phones?

Re: Vodafone Storm launched today; hits shops on 14th

I would love to try the Bold - unfortunately I don't tend to carry a spare bag to carry it in...
