I am sure they must've done a lot of work in the years preceding the construction of the building. It's connected to another island by a strip of land. Not sure if it makes it any easier. However, such construction is relatively commonplace here. But then the Dutch are legendary with how they deal with water. It's now on the map: https://www.google.nl/maps/...

And I just realised that the thing in front of my house that I thought to be a river all these years, is actually a lake! http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

Re: Photoblog: Photo #41 – Amsterdam Spring (2014)

Thanks Richard!

I was editing this photo for several minutes and yet never noticed it. I spotted it only when I had posted it on the blog and was quite surprised!

Winter here was mild and the spring came early this year. This could mean two things - a hot summer or a summer as mellow as the winter. I guess you know what I'd prefer. We'll see :). Barbeques and gardening equipment is already seeing a good deal of use here. As for bicycles, they never quite get un-deployed - but then the snow here (if we get some) falls in centimetres not in feet :)

Re: Barry Lyndon

Thanks for reading along Richard! In hindsight, it was self-serving propaganda. The revelations haven't shocked me as much as their scale. Given how insecure most of the Internet is, I should've known better. I knew they could, now I know they do.

Besides, all this talk of secret courts and gag orders hardly sounds like something I expected to see in country that prides itself in being a torch bearer for democracy.

Re: About

Sent.

Re: On cycling to work

:-). My first bike was a folding one and while buying one, I realised that the cost is directly proportional to the ease of folding ;-). I am going to move a "proper" Dutch bike in a few days because wherever I've gone here, theres a reasonably priced bicycle rental close to the station. As for carrying it with me outside - that's a little tricky considering the flights these days charge extra for checkin baggage.

Re: Photoblog: Photo #2

Thanks Bose.
