in Boehner to Waxman: No on California Emission Changes on The Washington Independent
Well, I suppose Boehner's statement puts proof to the Republican and Bush's failed policies being the same thing. Hopefully, the Senate Republicans won't be too much of a roadblock in finally implementing the start of real emissions regulations.
Interestingly, it was a very conservative friend of mine who's position was tremendous national investment into the retooling of our domestic auto manufacturing base to both compete in the marketplace and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I think the Republican party needs a philosophical retooling of a similar nature if they too want to compete in the political marketplace.

in A $50-Billion Warship Mystery on The Washington Independent
So just why does the Navy need to increase it's number of front-line ships by 15%? Are we afraid that Russia might revive the old Soviet Navy and threaten our costal waters?
I'd also like to see what, if any, role the Air Force or Naval air support would fulfill in the littoral regions... why plunk down probably 100+ sailors to sit in a near-shore situation where they'd be accessible to most land-based forms of attack, when we can utilize air support with 1/10th or less the manpower and even less risk?

in Media Revolts Against Palin Photo-Ops With Foreign Leaders on The Washington Independent
This follows the stated Rove/Gingrich policy of speaking over the press.
How long before the press finally acknowledges their role is being undermined by the current GOP campaign tactics and just stop asking 'please'?

in Another McCain Adviser Lobbied for Mortgage Industry on The Washington Independent
Journalists have an easy time this election with the McCain Campaign; take whatever attack they make on the Obama Campaign, investigate it as if it were really an issue with the McCain Campaign, and voila! The truth was never so easy to uncover.
Really, this is just Rove/Gingrich political philosophy to try and paint your opponent with your worse sins.

in Spitzer’s Lost Moment on The Washington Independent
I would argue that Spitzer represented very well those old style of values. There were no higher moral standards, greater ethical writs, or any other code followed to a more strict fashion, even in Victorian England. In the "good old days", people could talk and represent one line while living another. Spitzer was the embodiment of this fact as was John Edwards... as was Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Truman, Regan, etc., etc.

in Conservative Pundits: McCain Un-presidential, Age Back on the Table on The Washington Independent
McCain needs to shore up his base if this is their response. On the other hand, a true friend is one that finally reaches a point of saying, "dude, you're full of it, stop drinking!" We'll have to see how the McCain campaign responds outside of whining about the media.

in Vetting? on The Washington Independent
Thank you Laura for turning to our fine civil servants and letting them perform their jobs. I look forward to what you find out, especially how a town of under 7,000 can end up in such extreme debt with only half a dozen employees... each loyal to Madame Mayor no less!
