congrats on the phone Zach! I love how thin it is. can't wait to see some n95 vs n78 comparison photos and maybe how the speed of the camera compares as well. i'm wondering if the speed is like the nokia n82. also a side by side of the side view vs. the iphone would be nice like you did with the n95.

you held the E71 right? or was that someone else over at BGR? I'm wondering how it feels in hand and what your thoughts are on qwerty vs n78 if you can. i'm really taking a good look at the e71 just because i've never had a qwerty phone. I wonder how the two cameras compare since they have the same specs.

no IMAP. Nokia is crazy if they removed this. I love using Gmail with Imap. Can you verify that IMAP doesn't exist Zach.

You can specify an "ovi email address" that you get from ovi. check their upload optios on their website. you can make this your one click destination in shozu. thats how i do it.

i can't believe nobody mentioned Y-Browser or Slick IM.

only thing better on the N95 is the screen and NAM 3g. everything else is the same on the n82, and a lot have reported that even the firmware is faster.

great review Al. I recently went on a 8 mile hike with the N82 and used sports tracker almost the whole time. I was pretty suprised that the n82 battery held up pretty good.

Holy crap dude those onion rings look so damn good. Wish we had that place out here in LA.

Any chance you can compare the camera experience to the N82? Not so much photo quality but more of the shutter speed and the camera startup.

With my N82 I can flick open the lens and shoot with seconds. The focus is extremely fast as is the flash.

I'm wondering if this phone will live up to that.

your right rickey. i would love to have dvr access on my phone instead of live tv. i wonder how possible this type of thing is. sling the tv show/sporting event to your computer, somehow save it, then watch it over orb on your phone? to me that would be a good way. but then the matter of converting it to the proper format comes into play right?

great article like always Rita. for me its hard to tell because its completely different here in the United States. I have never ran into another person in real life that owns or has even seen an Nseries phone for that matter. So obviously Nokia is doing a piss poor job here. We will see how the sales of the N95-4 goes, but i don't think too well. I've never seen a commercial, newspaper ad, magazine ad, nothing for nokia phones here in the US. my thoughts are that after the iPhone release Nokia figures doing a huge marketing campaign would be a waste of money. Despite all the lack of features of the iPhone, the masses of America won't spend more than $300 on a phone that doesn't have touchscreen. Simple as that. when i people my phones they are amazed by the functionality. but then they hold it and try and touch the screen and are let down and hand it back. also more and more americans are enjoying qwerty phone. nokia doesn't have a mid range S60 qwerty phone that is worth spending the money on. i gurantee you if you throw a qwerty slider on the the n95 8gb and put a 3mp camera on it, it would sell like hotcakes. keep the gps. keep the large screen. keep the NAM 3g. keep the RAM and speed. drop a few megapixels and sell it for $350. and for heavens sake MARKET IT!

but what do i know?

to sum it up i don't think Nokia will ever be able to sell a ton of Nseries priced phones until the touchscreen comes out. speaking about the USA

yeah its pretty bad. on one part of my rant i left out "show". when i "show" people my phone.

i would like to add that more people are impressed when they see my n82 and the amazing xenon flash and the photos it takes in low light conditions. but the price point is still too expensive.

great article. i think the built in s60 client with imap is the best solution for gmail. keeps your mail perfectly in sync. you can't label new emails, but you can view labels by going into the folder subscriptions settings.

to archive an email from your phone delete it from "phone and server". it won't be deleted from gmail, just simply archived.

ricky i really love that java applet that you can upload photos from the browser with. it works great i just uploaded a 45mb video in about 6 minutes with no problems. it's not a new feature though its been around since i started using ovi a few months ago. always in that same place. unless i'm missing something.

i got it to load in opera mini and indeed it looks great. i can't find the tags though. i want to read only certain tags i can't find it for the life of me.

also rita thats a bad link at the top of the article " a Google Reader version for the iPhone has been released". might wanna fix it.

hey Ricky. you haven't noticed that the d-pad edges are slightly raised and sort of "cups" the center button. i don't feel the same comfort on the titanium that i have with the black. maybe the newer titanium models are fixed like this as well. my old one is more flat and harder to give a specific direction.

thats true Rita its great for switching devices constantly. Also I have found a new method for applications which I find handy when switching devices a lot. Since you do phone reviews you might know what I mean. Of course I keep my apps in a folder on my computer to install them on a new phone. But sometimes when I get the new phone I'm just too busy to install everything. So when I first find a cool app I email myself all my apps and themes using gmail and label them "applications". this way i can easily login and re-forward them to myself on my computer then check my email with the built in email app. there i can download and install the app. works good for when your on the go. they are always there in your email.

Hey Ricky I've been using it for almost a day now and it works good so far. Wish it would tie in with my theme though. And sometimes it doesn't sync my email for like a half hour at a time. I'm sure thats something that needs to be worked out with the nokia server.

btw i'm using the n95 version on my n82 since they didn't have a version yet.

great article Ricky. I wrote something very similar to this over at n82 blog recently but added another tip that many (including myself) often forget...

the number pad on the phone corresponds to the first 12 menu icons you see on each screen. the icon at top left will be 1 and the icon on the top right will be 3, all the way down to the *, 0, # keys. it really makes it fast when flying through menus, similar to a one touch experience like on the iphone. this tip may not be helpful for n95 owners cuz then you gotta open the slider. its great for my n82 though.

Yeah I reported this too a few days ago. This is just horrible for Nokia fans that need corporate email. Nokia really better get the ball rolling on their new Email application.

I already have a few buddies who were gonna get the E71 but can't now because their companies only use BB Connect.

Do you know anything about the plans Nokia has for their new Email application Ricky? I've given it a try but it's not pushing all my Gmail through.

I still swear by google owned blogger.com. I've been using it since November and it's highly customizable, more than people think. The SEO is great too because as you know, it's ran by google. I don't need to hassle with a domain because it's hosted free on google's servers. I control everything about the domain and website.

Posting from my phone is also a wonder. Blogger gives me a unique email address to send blog posts to. So I just write up a blog post on my phone like an email and add all the pics/vids/sound/ etc that I want and then send it through my built in email app. Very hand. I can also login to blogger through the phone's browser and modify posts and reply to comments.

Btw Ricky you can't see those links to amazon.com from google reader.

Either way I think this is a great sign. Maybe this will be the first step to launching an all out marketing attack on maybe California first. I am really looking forward to visiting this showroom especially since I have never even been to a Nokia store.

Sorry Viipottaja I do agree with Ricky in a way. Nokia has ZERO advertising here in the states besides a few newspaper ads here and there when the n95 came out. It's amazing the damage they can do if they try to push the E71. What good is this showroom if hardly anyone has even heard of Nseries/Eseries products?

Like I've said before, living here in the Los Angeles area I've only seen one... yes ONE other Nokia S60 product besides what ATT has. And that was at a Nokia WOM meetup. I have never seen an unlocked nokia smartphone in real person, besides the ones I own.

While I think it's great that they are building this facility, they really need to advertise more to get people to actually visit it. Or else I and a few others will be the only locals there when it launches.

wow thanks Rita I have been dying to see a test like this. I love my N82 but there is just so much more that the n85 brings to the table like battery life oled screen, usb charging, and of course NAM 3g for us Americans.

but i'm still not sure that I'd be able to go out on friday/sat night without my n82. i've capture so many great photos at bars/restaurants/friends & families houses that the n95's led flash would've failed at. i'll give the dual led a try but i just dont think its gonna do it for me.

Rita can I ask you one thing. Besides the difference in lighting between the xenon and led, there is also a timing factor. as Rafe mentioned in the n85 review they had, the n82 is still better at "freezing" the moment. in other words the picture is taking much faster. with the n95 in a dim room it took longer to get the picture you want and it often came out blurry and grainy if someone moved during the shot. the n82 as zero problems with this. did you notice a difference in time between the n82 and n85. is the wait time similar to the n95? thanks!

Ricky, oddly enough this was available to me at midnight. I logged into my account online and noticed a "upgrade available" image. You can see the screenshot in the article i posted over at symbian-addict.com. It doesn't really jump out at you. Ps i'm in california everyone.
