Less about the width of the image, more about a lack of distracting features on X, when you take that background away anyway.

Images could be Lightboxed, but I got the impression the idea was to have the images as the main focus rather than using thumbnails.

Cooler Ross I like the background. Could be with being less bold, but it's better than white space.

I'm really not a fan of Lightbox. Well I can understand it if you want to see the image much larger. But i'd much rather just be able to see all the work on the one page rather than clicking through thumbnails. Which is why I like Jonnys. He uses the full width for the image, leaving it at a very reasonable size for viewing.

Currently 3-5 in favour of Biancas.

Theme X, the layout puts more focus on the image. Perhaps with a more subtle BG though eh...

Andrew Ramsay I would say that Theme Y has plently of room to work with regarding images. As far as i was aware we are only viewing the home page just now and i dont expect to see an over follow of images where the latest news and tasks are ment to be.

Yea totally — jk.dodd at hotmail.co.uk. I won't be in Aberdeen to meet up with anyone until July because I can't get into my flat until then. Happy to help out online now though! Thematic is a good framework for customising Wordpress for whatever you need.

Jonny Lewery Sweet. Can I add you to msn (assuming you use it)? I've never coded a wordpress theme before and it has been ages since I have done some real css so I may need to give someone a shout if I get stuck. Do you have any good links that could help me out? I've found a few good ones but they are going to take me ages to work through :( .

I can make WP themes if you need it.

Jonny Lewery Do you mean you can code them?

If everyone involved gets on Flickr and we all use the same tag for this project, we can easily pull everything relevant into a blog - Tumblr, Wordpress or whatever. If it's all in the one place, when it comes to choosing 'best of' stuff for a book we could just count up the comments/reblogs.

Jonny Lewery I was hoping to take advantage of free stuff like that including vimeo. I will come up with a standard for submitting your work and if we all follow that it should be simple... in theory. We could post up the work on the Monday and then have a poll posted on the Tuesday although this would mean one winner unless there is a tie. If you think about it though there won't be too many projects if they are every second week so we could probably have everyone piece of work in the book or each person's top 3 etc.

Well it sounds like it certainly beats sitting in Wetherspoons with me and Liam simultaneously making everyone else's eyes fog over with a technophobic haze! x

jayjay There was talk about holding a similar event in Glasgow - do you think there is a big enough social media community there? I don't know - if there was, it certainly isn't as accessible and as open as the ones in Leicester and London.

Maybe I am only cynical because of the bad experiences I had setting stuff up in Ayr and Glasgow - maybe the time is now and we missed the boat (I doubt it...)

It's sitting in my pile of library books as we speak. The project I needed logo inspiration for is long past, but it's definitely worth having this book around!

in Managing Identities: Part 2 (Netvibes) on Jennifr.net
I had completely forgot about my Netvibes page. I think I veered away from it because I couldn't get any comprehensive cinema times for Ayr, unlike iGoogle... I've been using del.icio.us a lot for bookmarking research for university. We Heart It comes in handy more often because being the "wanker" of the design world, all I really research is pretty pictures. My complete lack of disorganisation and lazy tagging on del.icio.us means it is in such a mess that I've been thinking about creating another account to keep things separate. Might even hop over to Magnolia instead. All of this really just gives me a dozen more excuses to avoid any actual work for half an hour...

Much love from the North :o)
