in What Should Corporations Do With Their Blogs on Chris Brogan
Chris,

Big thanks for using my video of the panel in your blog post. Again thank you for putting it together, some great information was shared. The theme of humanizing, I thought was the most important.

Sorry that the beginning of the video is shaky everyone!

in How MC Hammer went from caricature to human being--the social media story on Ignite Social Media
Jim,

Good post. I think Hammer is a good example of some one in popular culture that learn the tech scene and has been able to leverage it very well. He is a great example of what "famous" people could be doing to further build their fan base and improve their earning potential.

Thanks for the link to TalkSocailNews.com. Much Appreciated!

Dan,

Good suggestions but I would suggest also great a social media resume complete
with widgets, videos, audio, and text to aggregate your online activity and
showcase your skills.

in How to Start Speaking at Events on Chris Brogan
Chris,

Thanks for writing this was just starting to work on me Speaking pages so it was very timely and great advice. I think that the making friend suggestion has to be one of the most important.

One other idea: Have you thought about featuring someone from your Rockstars page every week on your blog? I think it would be really good exposure for other smart folks you could pick them at random even but it would be interesting since that list is getting very lengthy. Have a great day.

in How To Use Links and Linking Effectively | Social Media Explorer on Social Media Explorer
Jason well said. I think this post shows that much more thought and strategy goes into good blog posts. Good writing is important but so is how your topic, links, headline, layout, etc.

JasonFalls Thanks for pointing that out more succinctly than I. It certainly is true. The best blogs are more than just good writing. Thank you!

Well said Louis, I couldn't imagine having another phone that wasn't an iPhone. The design and UI is jsut so far ahead of everyone else.

Louis Gray Kipp, I've been thinking about it for awhile. Being in the Silicon
Valley and literally 5-10 minutes from Apple HQ, we have a high iPhone
per person capita. But when I see people take out a BlackBerry or
Windows Mobile/Symbian cell phone, I almost feel sorry for them,
because they must know they're missing out. I really put off getting
an iPhone, but now I see that was stupid, and I should have just
gotten one right away (assuming Exchange integration).

in How To Be The Social Media Champion At Your Office on Social Media Explorer
Jason,

Thanks for writing this post, it is one that needed to be written. I feel like you and I have had similar experiences since we are dealing with social media in traditional agencies. I would add that some clients are still very unsure of social media and that you have to show them the value by taking the time to sit down with them and really walk them through. This is even the case with something as simple as Google Docs.

I would also add a 7th tip to this list: Social Media Is free!

At least in traditional agencies, folks are used to services being expensive. If you can solve a problem that some has using a free application, you become an instant hero. Everyone should talk to the PR team they work with and tell them to sign up for Peter Shankman's HelpAReporter.com for free and stop paying for ProfNet. It is amazing the respect that comes from helping someone save $2,000.

Thanks!

in Simple Efficiency Tweaks to Get More Done in Social Media on Social Media Explorer
Kat

This is a good list and some helpful tips, though I would disagree with 3. I don't like to broadcast status updates, I feel like you miss out on the responses from the community especially on active platforms like Twitter. I would rather participate in less communities than broadcast updates that don't contribute to the community in the way I think they should.

Just my .02

KatFrench I'd agree you could do either approach (trimming networks or broadcasting), or a blend. What I was taking exception to was duplication of effort simply because you haven't taken the time to really figure out why you're on a particular network.

Louis Gray Kipp, you said you got a lot of positive responses from the interview.
Where would I see those? Were they via e-mail or in blog comments
somewhere? It'd be good to see.

in Social Media Shirts: Limited Edition "This is My Profile Face" on Ignite Social Media
Of course you can give it to me :) But shouldn't you give two away each time one at random and then one to the person that does the best job of "spreading the word" about the giveaway. Just a thought, since it is a social media shirt, thought you could reward someone for being social :).

in Social Media In Two Words Or Less on Social Media Explorer
Social Media = one word "people". New tools are fun, but what truly excites me is the information that is available and freely shared online and offline that is facilitated by social applications. The possibilities to learn are endless and that should make everyone excited not pessimistic. Knowledge is power people.
JasonFalls Agreed, Sir Kip. Social media in many ways is a series of night clubs and hang outs where people get together for folks and fun. Expanding our horizons is a lot of what it's all about.

in Burn the Ships! Should Social Media Specialists Jettison Their Backgrounds? on Social Media Explorer
Thank you for the mention in this post. I think you have brought up a great point and an aspect of social media that really excites me. We our fortunate to be apart of an industry that is in its very beginning and because of that, we will work with people that have vastly different types of backgrounds.

We don't need to throw away are past experiences and disconnect with folks in those industries, but instead we need take the best practices from our past and integrate them into social media principles. We also need to work and educate others in our industry to reduce the types of bad practices that impact everyone in an industry.
