in The HP 2133 and HP 2140 walk into a photoshoot… on Liliputing
Yup, the batteries are the same and interchangeable. The power supplies are little different though - the 2140's puts out 0.1 amp more.

in Windows 7 on the HP 2133 Mini-Note on Liliputing
Yup, tried that and it didn't help :(

Tried the newest Vista driver from VIA Arena right off the bat, and then rolled back to HP's Vista Driver. They're just not compatible yet unfortunately.

in HP spills the beans on the HP Mini 1000 netbook on Liliputing
Any ideas on the OS that is displaying on that screen? I'd guess a customized Linux distro, and probably not Windows. The whole black motif looks pretty cool though.

in HP starts sneaking lower res displays into Mini-Notes on Liliputing
The new screen has LEDs for the backlighting, a different contrast ratio and decreased viewing angles: http://www.hp2133guide.com/hp-releasing-mini-no...

Nope you won't be able to just plug in a Nano chip unfortunately. It's soldered to the board in a special way called Ball Grid Array and would be a huge pain to change.

DougC3 Well, so much for the drop-in-the-chip idea. But I suppose you could still run Suse pretty well, or substitute Ubuntu or the distro of your choice, or maybe lighten up the Vista.

in Dell E makes its first appearance on Dell's web site on Liliputing
Actually I think this is a different laptop series than the E (Mini Inspiron). If you view the link "Latitude E-series of laptops" it says these are 13.4 to 15.4-inch laptops and the picture looks way different than anything in the leaked stuff. (Notice the Mini Inspirons have a rounded edge on the lid while the E-Series are angled. Also all the MI's also have grey keyboard bezel while the other has a black.)

With this announcement there's no way the Mini Inspiron is being renamed to 'E'.

in Dell E specs leaked on Liliputing
The only thing I have a hard time believing is that the name is really going to be E. I could see them going with Mini Inspiron. It would be a little weird with the Mini-Note and all, but it's still different enough.... but to just use E? I would imagine eee pc is trademarked and ASUS would have a strong lawsuit on their hands against Dell. I figured it would be called Inspiron 9xx, since their other models use screen size followed by a version type number. Wait and see I guess...

Brad Linder I'm guessing the name isn't set in stone. But while Eee is probably
trademarked, I think it would be difficult to trademark a letter, or even
the position of a letter in a word or phrase (as in iPod vs. iGoogle).

in What to expect from Computex on Liliputing
It's kinda hard to say what's going to happen with them... I don't think HP will announce anything, but Dell probably will. At least a name and specs.

More food for thought, why did VIA announce Nano and the Openbook a week before Computex?? Do they have something even bigger up their sleeves?

I did an interview with a VIA rep earlier this week and the following day he asked me not to post it: "...I wasn't supposed to provide interviews regarding the content that I sent you earlier." Nothing in his replies to my questions seemed all that extraordinary though. So it's probably more of a media/press freeze for now... but it's still strange they announced early.

Sascha Well let's see if Dell or HP rented any rooms in the hotels.
VIA's strategy of announcing the Nano and the openbook is not so unusual all, they did it before just to avoid these busy "release" days during computex and to get the full global coverage.

Let's see what is going on over there. I am gonna leave my hotelroom after a little nap to sneak into the halls aready today

cheers from Taipei

in What to expect from Computex on Liliputing
Interestingly, Dell and HP aren't on the exhibitor list for Computex. VIA, Acer and MSI are all though.

in Install Windows XP on a Mini-Note (USB stick method) on Liliputing
lol, I know it... I'm getting the 1.6Ghz model and wanted to be able to under clock to save some battery. I just read over on the mininoteuser forums that there isn't anything in the bios you can change for video or cpu. :(

Thanks again!

Thanks for documenting all this stuff Brad. It helps a lot!

Do you know if you can under or over clock the cpu, or change how much memory the onboard video uses?

Brad Linder I haven't gotten arond to over/underclocking yet, but I'll keep you posted. The 1.2GHz processor is a bit sluggish for some tasks. But you're also lucky to get 2 hours of battery life out of the standard 3 cell battery, so I'm a bit wary to do too much overclocking. At least the computer runs at its advertised speed, which is more than I can say for some laptops *cough* Eee PC *cough*
