Looks like HTTPS is now being used for account editing pages and the like. Try to navigate to the following URL, and you get redirected:

http://register.new.facebook.com/editaccount.php

I wouldn't say this is a "launch", as www.beta.facebook.com has existed for at least several months now. I can't, however, say how often updates are staged to the beta sub-domain for app developers prior to pushes. Perhaps Facebook is trying to offer more time for developers to ensure everything will transition smoothly, which is certainly a good thing.

I guess displaying constant error messages on MySpace still counts as uptime...?

When Facebook first implemented reviews onto the application about pages a couple days ago, I was hoping these reviews would help prioritize apps in the directory. However, after thinking about it, I don't know if this would be a good idea. For one, reviews can be "gamed". Also, on many about pages, it looks like users are using the reviews section in a way it's not intended to be used -- it's simply to respond to the users below them, say happy birthday to friends using the app, etc. Hopefully Facebook comes up with something, though I'm not sure what.

So what did they get wrong?

I would be interested in seeing the ad itself, as the ads I've run have converted much better than this. Perhaps it's the layout/wording of his ad, or perhaps even the niche vs. the average Facebook user. More info would be handy for making an educated decision here.
