I don't use google reader any more. I have switched to iGoogle and feedly. I use iGoogle to scan news, have tabs for news news, another for the RWW, techmeme hacker news etc and two others for blogs. I use feedly every other day to scan stories. RSS/ ATOM are great technologies and I'd hate it if they disappeared. Life online wouldn't be half as good without out them imo.

Slightly off topic... I wish Google would implement RSS in search like Yahoo do. They do it for blog search, but I want it all. Google Alerts has "way too much setup"

Re: louisgray.com: I'm Not Using Brightkite, and It Has Zero to Do With Privacy, Security

Good point's Louis. We are creatures of habit and end up in the same place most times.I really like the brightkite idea though. I am thinking of changing my approach. I'll log in when I visit somewhere out of the ordinary and again when I get home. I'll be stopping the work to home to shopping, etc stuff.

Re: Private: Twitter Apps Can Only Grow so Far

Thanks for the mention! It's bad news for you and for me (a socialtoo user). But even other services like Seesmic could be affected. It's going to be painful and widespread if this goes ahead. I understand twitter ... kind of. But imagine being able to make only 2 phone calls a day! In the end it just does not work. It will limit the service... and get Dave Winer back on his hobby horse, decentralized twitter which Bezos will hate.

It will do damage that's for sure. For instance I see the BBC following the inauguration yesterday and peoples reactions. The have loads of twitter quotes. So the media is waking up to the concept of 'the back channel'. Except when you are a BBC, NBC etc. and you want to do stuff! 20.000 requests should be peanuts I hope.

Re: louisgray.com: What FriendFeed Needs to Do To Grow and Keep New Users

I hope Friendfeed do even half what you say. I hardly ever use it any more. It's information on Steroids and therefore of no use to me. That turned out to be untrue. I just hope that MS buys all of Yahoo and not just search. Buying just search is going after Google. It will fail. Buying all of Yahoo will give them a real brand that they can focus all their live and msn activities into. Plus Yahoo has a bunch of great web 2.0 services that rock. I've posted about this earlier today

Re: louisgray.com: Every Night, I Sleep Next to My iPhone

I used to be more connected than I am now. Google reader really is too plain. But then so is nearly everything from Google. Hopefully the ex-google team is already thinking ahead and will avoid the scaling issues of Twitter. I guess we'll see.

Re: Keep Your Eyes On FriendFeed: It May Be The Google Of Social Networks

Lot's of good points. Still I love twitter and hope it grows strong. FF is a baby in terms of numbers compared to Twitter of Facebook. I hope FF stays light and nimble though. They have great functionality... but how much heavy lifting do they have to do yet? Very little from what I can see and if messaging takes off in FF it could be whole different ball game, which will make things difficult for them.

Re: Twitter: more mainstream than it looks

When twitter goes mainstream it will be awesome. I live in a village, work in nearest town. I can see great uses for it among me and my fellow villagers. I might use 2 accounts and clients to keep the geeks and farmers apart!

Re: louisgray.com: My Social Media Consumption Workflow

I still use Google reader... but only when I have time.
