Since installing dofollow on my blog - http://the16art.com - I have noticed a slight increase in legitimate comments. In the other hand comment spam went through the roof. With some spammers simply saying 'Thanks for the link', as if...
I have now installed the math-comment-spam-protection plugin and spam went right down. A simple but very effective plugin.

Yes I will elaborate in more detail on another entry, in this one I just wanted to give an overview of all mistakes to avoid.

I normally go for HTML or XHTML Transitional and rarely strict.

100% valid code in my opinion is beneficial for search engines ranking because they'll spider the site much better, most visitors probably won't notice the difference unless the website is badly coded. However valid code may increase a website's speed therefore user experience.

I have to disagree with when saying that â€œClick Hereâ€ is acceptable, I always try to use anchor text that is relevant. This practice is highly advisable from the SEO point of view.

I see Mason, yes it might work differently on a Linux Machine. It might work for Gecko browsers only.

It's all about using the social networking sites to their maximum potential, cross-bookmarking between them and use the most popular social bookmarking sites as much as possible and so building credible solid profiles.

there's another multi pinging service called autopinger which is quite good too.

Pinging services basically are notifying services. Pining is telling those services that your blog has been updated.

Thanks for this great post. I've never actually used these services but I think I'll give it a go. At some point I've registered for scratchback but never got round to implementing it. Do you think that is worth using?

Digg do send tons of traffic but the bounce rate is very high. Frankly even when I go through Digg myself I don't spend more than a few seconds in the site.
