in The Death Penalty on Ramana's Musings
The Innocence Project is doing some work to help those people who may be facing the death penalty, but some of the evidence in the case does not add up.

However, to rape and murder an innocent child should not go without punishment as long as the evidence points to the person who perpetrated it.

I find myself on the fence with this one. I want the innocent to come out all right - whether innocent victim or innocently accused.

Rummuser You may just be on the right track here Robyn. Perhaps the answer is in deciding on a case by case rather than take rigid yes or no stances.

in Mini Lesson - Teaching the Habitude of Curiosity on Angela Maiers Educational Svcs
Students give so much more when they feel free to explore answers without "expected responses." Answers can be a bit messy and surprising. I have worked with teachers at times who had expected answers. What a joy to help them turn that kind of methodology around. When they see how much students relish the process of finding answers and all the new ideas that surround student contributions, these traditional teachers begin to change old ruts. The more they practice new skills, the more new dendrite brain cells the brain builds for that kind of change.

Thanks so much for listing Brain Based Biz as a link to explore.

I so value what you do to bring habitudes to faculty and students alike.

AngelaMaiers Robyn-
You continue to fuel my curiosity. You are dead on - sometimes the lessons are as powerful for the teachers as the students. My hope is that the teachers walk away more passionate, curious, and ready to share with students where their quest took them! Conversation with you is food for my brain!

Congrats, Charlie. Next step is that when the temptations really get to you to be able to stick to healthy eating and exercise. That's where the rubber meets the road for me.

I'm working on myself, but at a little slower pace and so far so good.

BigManWalking Robyn! I'm sticking with good food. I'm even sticking to water only so far. No coffee. I can do it. You can do it. I know a guy named Alex who says you have to make the I CAN voice big like James Earl Jones and make the I Can't voice small like a field mouse.

Great to get such a fresh view on this, Micah. Seems like "evangelists" or people that truly believe in their products can do the best presenting their PR on the web. Never thought I'd see the line that SEO is dead. :-)

in Hey Blog Coach, What's the Difference between a Blog and a Wiki? on ConverStations
Mike this article is really well-done since you use so many of the multiple intelligences to express the ideas. The only thing I would say is that as a blogger I take away the podium so I can bring in more ideas from my readers. In an earlier blog you wrote, you mention getting away from the podium and mingling with your audience as you give a presentation. In my mind that shows just what I mean. :-)

in Blog Action Day 08: Poverty or Funds of Knowledge? on Angela Maiers Educational Svcs
Angela, I too, see the rich resources in the minds of children who currently live in poverty. You inspire me as a teacher who does what it takes to show you truly care since you visit homes and get to know families. There is no other way to see the whole learner.

This is an amazing article and I am glad to see this entry for Blog Action Day.

Thanks so very much for all you do to benefit children who face difficulties.

in Are you a 21st Century Teacher?...Really? on Angela Maiers Educational Svcs
Angela, in my mind all teachers need to ask your brilliant question: "Is technology one of my attributes? If not, how can it be?"

Since students hook into technology at an early age it's extremely important for educators to make the most of this amazing tool to advance learning and student growth.

Thanks

AngelaMaiers You have taught me that it is important to ask the right question, and I think this is a biggie! If we see technology in the way you described-"an amazing tool to advance learning and student growth"-we celebrate not hide from the challenge!

in Moving Beyond "Letter of the Week" on Angela Maiers Educational Svcs
Hi Angela, I briefly looked at the early literacy materials in the link and must say they look good because there is such a variety of activity and it is connected to the real world rather than a sheet of paper and a workbook. When children dip into several intelligences to learn a concept such as our alphabet system and how these letters can be built to create words that represent meaning, it helps reinforce the learning since it brings the knowledge to several areas of the brain to reinforce it. Children who are not so verbally oriented, have a chance to learn through their strengths.

Thanks for all you do, Angela, to promote literacy and the things that make a difference to children's success.

AngelaMaiers Great points Robin-we know way to much about how the brain learns and the ways we can tap into to help students create meaning to ignore this science. We must make a commitment as educators towards the connectedness and authenticity you speak about. I am always learning from you!

MikeSansone Robyn, I think as we adapt to an increasing amount of information/text/content - we all HAVE to get quicker in our discerning of what's 'nice to know' vs 'what's 'need to know' - and pay attention to the latter. Cut to the quick is what it's telling me.
