Google forgot where they came from. Now they are like IBM and Microsoft. We should ship all of them to communist china or North Korea, where they will fit in perfectly.

Soo many contradictions, soo many vague guidelines which send us scrambling...

The "internet police," Google does it once again with even more contradictory guidelines.

While massive conflicts of interest abound with Google and its Partners, they continue to hinder legit marketers and webmasters.

...all in the name of, "fighting spam," it reminds me of all the war crimes and human rights violations committed in the name of "fighting terrorism."

Here is a thought Google: Fix one of the main driving forces behind spam, ADSENSE !

I second that, if no one comes up with a hacked version I might have to.

I wish they thought of this sooner, because I used to buy text links from Answers.com, but it appears they might not be selling them like that anymore.

what a shame, those text links would be really valuable right now

Anyway, I always saw them as a site which was loosing ground and real estate, since they did not leverage their percentage of the search results in the past. It is nice to see them do something right, for a change.

And they do not really provide that much added value either. Mostly just a few extra related links under & info, on top of content they aggregate from other sites.

That pretty much fits the definition of scraping to me.

and I do agree with Michael, that they know their algo is fragile, their actions prove the case

while adsense sites pollute the search results they are chasing after tla's! and it is soo obvious that they have a vested monetary interest in keeping those MFA and scrapers in their publisher network

i do not know why they think we are soo stupid. if we can read and crack their algo, then we can easily spot their ulterior motives

they should be spending some of the billions of their "market cap" to hire 10,000 Russian programmers to fix it

and at least their FUD is working, look how they have us in disarray

First, I would hope that most most seeking sites for the followed link would find Andy's blog because of its massive amount of actionable SEO techniques, news and blogging insights.

Next, a nofollow tag is not as powerful as its made out to be. If you think its hindering your traffic then you are missing the fundamentals which make or break products.

Andy is extending a hand in friendship in "following" his comment links. Its a minor gift to your users, your major gift should be in your content. I have seen even the most obscure of phrases bring visitors in, so content covering topics people are really passionate about rain in the traffic, hint hint

You want a good reason to "follow" your blog comments?
Because President Google is Roswelling us with the nofollow tag having us looking like the three stooges clanging our heads together, knucklehead :)

I havent tried any of the other services yet, mainly because the set up is kinda tedious, but YouMail has been really useful to me.

I have been using for about a year now and wondered how i used to live with out it. I much rather listen to my voice mails on my pc for free!

And setting up customized voice mail greetings for different callers is much easier through YouMail than my blackberry.

Now I can start cracking down on bad web hosts, and trust me there is no shortage of them! I have had major outages on the biggest like Digex so its not just the small hosts with problems.

I have been using siteuptime for years without any problems, but I havent tried any other services... until now!

they still charge 35 bucks per year for domains, even register.com lowered their prices.

im glad godaddy stole soo much of their market share. what a failure to innovate and adapt to the changing environment.

and the only reason i know they still charge 35, is because i still have one domain there which is used for nameservers, so i dont want to risk interrupting a dozen sites with a domain transfer.

I have several of these services in place to keep up on news, rep and other things.

so to say that this is just for linkbait is not accurate all.

I know several people and even companies who know nothing about any of these services, but they would benefit dramatically from them.

initially when u see google news, digg, and reditt at the top of the post you think, "who the hell does not know about this already?" but if you continue u might get an understanding that is way more than google news or digg

Mainly this post is just alerting you about these services. There is a massive case to be made about using a few select ones, which in itself can be a long post. So, he would have had to write a short book in order to tell everyone what specific profound reasons there are to use many of these services.

for anyone who does not know why to use several of these, then u r at a disadvantage, seriously...

i told my friends and colleagues the same exact thing about one of these services two weeks ago

these lists are the foundations of Project management software.

im surprised they didnt do it sooner considering the successes of Basecamp http://www.basecamphq.com by 37 signals.

i switched to it a while ago and love it, especially coming from using microsoft project.

right now i use iprioritize for my personal tasks, and it works nicely, but i wish it was already tied into my google logins, then it would be completely seamless

so if google makes their own, then i will probably be forced to switch

Andy, are you sure about not knowing full the power of A/B testing? That is hard to believe.

The inner scientist within some of us developers/marketers jumped for joy when this technology came out.

Unless you want to pay for an endless supply of focus groups you better start A/B and multivariate testing now.

Videos like this are not that depressing to me any more considering several factors:

1 - Kids these days are soo pampered and coddled that they think they are actually entitled to stuff.
2 - Are there any left that think they have to work hard to achieve things?
3 - We are destroying the planet already, so the quality of their education is minor in comparison.

I am trying to teach my kids the fundamentals of being a good person which are disappearing, but it is an uphill battle.

I have been beta testing woopra for a while now and it has some serious advantages, but im still a big fan of google analytics. just to name a few, i still love linkdiagnosis.com, spyfu and the compete.com toolbar. the google search based keyword tool is useful as well.

Getting your ip removed from certain blacklists can be extremely tedious, and spam has been growing like a wild-fire.

So, this is an critical issue which must be understood by new site owners.

I chased down a hacker/spammer to turkey, notified his isp, webhost and our FBI.

But, with certain countries it seems nothing will work, besides blocking the country's ip, which is not fool-proof either.

Similarly...

Recently Bush refused to formally declare Turkey responsible for the Armenian genocide which happened between "1915 and 1923, resulting in the deaths of 1.5 million." Source CNN.com

Why? Cause 70% of our air traffic to Iraq goes through Turkey. Which is not a valid reason for not recognizing the Armenian genocide.
