One of the main things I see when I read the article was that he, like most other folks miss the idea of what the Net is. It is not about broadcasting. There is no tower.no CRTC, no rabble of sales reps out there selling ads etc etc.

the idea of the Net is conversations. If you start to have a conversation with someone - why not offer them a Podcast?

It is not abour broadcasting.

Build a real brand (Yeah sadly you have to know what you are doing and spend some do re me. Poor baby! LOL) and then drive folks to your site (probably from other sites) and offer them something that is valuable - they will, if interested, stay, react, buy etc etc...

First of all, put up the gloves my friend because Panic Attacks are a nightmare and you can kill it!!! Search into the WEB and understand what are those, how you get them and how to get rid of those.

First of all, try to seek help with a MD using Zoloft ... its great, then kill the ghost of PANIC ATTACKS ... it always happen out of the blue ... and from there all the attacks will be based on the fear of having them again .. so when you see that Panic Ghost coming at you: look him in the eye and don’t fear, you won’t die and you won’t pass out! it’s only mental not physical ... therefore, fight! use a notebook to write all the symptoms so you can identify them. Then when you feel like you are having the fear of experiencing one, just laugh and tell yourself: here it comes again to fool me ... and try to relax ... look down or just close your eyes until you gain control ... be stronger than it and then let that Panic Nightmare rule your life !!!

Hi,
I was a victim of those terrible attacks and it stopped as soon as I put this in motion:

1. First of all, put up the gloves cecause Panic Attacks are a nightmare and YOU CAN KILL IT !!!

6. Since its mental, be stronger than it !! NEVER let that Panic Nightmare rule your life !!!

Will be more than happy to give you more advice ... I'm part of the Panic Ghostbusters Team to support all people that have this situation.

Till anonym människan som verkar fiska efter bekräftelse från 14åriga pojkar som tycker att hans kommentar är rolig : Varför ens kommentera om du inte gillar bloggen eller milan för den delen? jag har precis som Wiklander gått runt och tänkt på milansegern hela dagen och det var nästan som en typiskt amerikansk sportsfilm. Utskälld tränare, utskällda spelare, världens avdankade lag som inte har en chans som nu ställs mot ett av världens bästa lag med formstarka sjärnspelare på alla positioner - på deras hemmaplan(!). Ingen vågar hoppas på att dom ens ska ta en pinne utan vill bara undvika en pinsam förlust, och så vinner dom, helt j*vla fantastiskt! För övrigt är jag inte ens ett Milan fan utan tycker bara detta var så himla roligt för alla inblandade i en förening som faktiskt verkligen vill vinna trots alla hinder i vägen! Äntligen är det finito på Lagerbäck´s Sverige i miniatyr,
där mod och kreativitet inte premieras.

Med Lennartsson får vi samma sak.
Här är det bara Backe och Hamrén som är konstruktivt
för fortsättningen.

Problemet är att Lagrell troligen ser till att köra över
opinionen och plockar in Lennartsson iaf !

En klar majoritet av folket står bakom att vi kvalar ca varannan gång och då med ett kreativt lag som genom mod i kvalet,
TROR på att det finns chans på medalj, än att med ett fegt, destruktivt spel se till att kvala till varje pris, för att fylla
förbundets plånbok.

Att våga - och därmed ofta hota om medalj - ger folket minnen
de aldrig glömmer.

Det tar folket även med sig i vardagen.
Titta på hur G.P klamrade sig fast vid makten, vilket ledde till

Nu har det hänt igen - en massa initierade fans ville se Danmark

Det är Feghet, Jante och Lågt i tak i dagens Sverige. och därför
kunde både G.P. och Lagerbäck tillåtas sitta 4-5 år för länge.

Självklart håller man ju på England då större delen av min släkt kommer därifrån, älskar även PL och gillar de flesta engelska spelarna, kom igen England! skulle vara så roligt med en upset och ta hem hela skiten, det är dom värda efter alla fiaskon. Med deras spelarmaterial så borde ju iaf åttondelsfinal krävas.

Du har helt och hållet fel, jag håller med justified, helt sinnesjukt hur mycket pengar spelarna tjänar. Jag har alltid haft respekt för giggs och allt han har tillfört till PL men efter hans Utspel så tappade jag mycket av den. Blir bara irriterad så fort jag tänker på att när chelsea-man u spelar man varandra finns det 22 st plus tränarkårer miljonärer...för att sparka på en läder boll i 10 år. Fuc*ed up.

I hate to sound elitist or even condescending but there's a clear trend among the comments. The people who question the quality of this list are either young or uneducated as evidence by their informal slang or poor spelling, whatever, etc. The bottom line is the people who compiled this list know more about music than the average pop music listening comment hater. Based on online and offline consensus, My Girls is revolutionary not just for 2009 but relative to songs that have come out in the past decade. Again, not to sound elitist, but as a Juilliard graduate, the song's chord progressions and structure are unlike anything we've ever heard. And that needs to be celebrated.

As evidence that this list is not partial towards indie music, check out the Beyonce and Black Eyed Peas selections. What people fail to realize is that the term "best songs" should imply innovation, progression and barrier breaking. While people may remember "Halo" or "Boom-boom pow" ten years from now because it was blasted on the radio or in the clubs, rather than the song that it's derived from, it's the "My girls" of the world that are going to make the most worthwhile impact on the music industry landscape...and that's what it's all about.

Someone I know was knocked unconcious the first and only time he rode a kite tube. The guy that went after him dislocated his shoulder. I'd never heard of these things until tonight, but after reading all these accounts it's apparent that the kite tube is a death trap. I snowboard and ride a sportbike but would never even dream of riding one of these things with what I've read. Half the people posting on here report going to the hospital. Being that there's only like 20,000 of these things that were sold, the number of people seriously hurt on them seems to be disproportionately high. People do get injured doing other extreme sports, but it's not the same. When you're snowboarding, you start doing grabs on the 2 foot jumps and after alot of time on the slopes you work your way up to the half pipe and more technical tricks. You don't have a choice in kite tubing. Alot of these people report shooting 30 ft in the air without trying to. You can't work up to that. If you don't have control or there's a sudden change in the wind you're almost guaranteed an injury. It may be that there's certain things you can do to mitigate the risk, like slowing down, using a shorter rope, not jumping off etc. But with the number of serious injuries that have occured, there was no justifying leaving this thing on the market. Anyone who says otherwise is a moron.

Courtship is about accountability. Not secrecy."

I agree. Rules are not the focus. However, I believe that sometimes couples think they are more self-controlled than they really are and written rules, what you would call some kind of written covenant, is a useful tool. But of course we must avoid the extremes of legalism, but then again it sets boundaries for all parties involved to understand how things will run.

Accountability is a good thing. The quality of it is who is holding you accountable. It has to be someone willing to get in your face. I'm not saying they can't be somewhat graceful, but they can't be someone who will cheer you on, blowing on those flames of emotion that will only speed things up sooner than they should go. This happens sometimes among peers. I think it is better to take the approach of not discussing it too much in a ... longing kind of attitude with peers.

I had a second thought about the touching issue. I don't think courtship should include some addition physical mannerisms that you would be able to exercise. I think it is better to treat a courtee physically similar to your sisters in Christ; I mean those who are possibly further removed in closeness, not the very closest. Although it is obvious that when you're courting someone you're giving that person special attention, as a way to protect hearts and respect/honor I think this is a good approach.

We have to keep in mind that the courtee should be viewed as someone else's spouse. I often times hear this as a reason not to be kissing. Well, it should go more extensive than that. How would you feel if your future spouse was hugged for long periods of time, cuddling, holding hands, napping together, etc. with someone else?

Sorry for the long comments. If you think of me as opinionated or too strict/conservative or ... not flexible, well, that may be so, but there is good reason. Truly, marriage is a holy, honorable estate. It deserves to be treated as such.

To stop a disabled veteran's medical care, or for Fauver to use the sheriff's office to harass me will not change the truth. This Madbury NH family that Fauver made an 11 grade drop out an attorney to represent (me) will not stop volunteer helping this family because this family is everyone of you (U.S. citizens). The people of the United States of America must be informed that NH and the VA is violating the law and human rights to inflict harm on a 100% disabled Veteran that's only crime is volunteer helping others. The opinion of the people was so important that our founding fathers gave the news media constitutional protection. Does any news media have the ethical responsibility to print a letter written by some one whom gave his life for the United States of America. Our children join our military to protect your freedom. It seems to be that most people on this blog don't quite understand the difference between facts and opinions. Facts are what IS ACUALLY the case, while opinions are merely what you believe to be the case.
Do you people really think you know the FACTS after watching Fox, CNN, reading the paper or some climate change website? Even if you've spent years reading every climate article and watching every news broadcast on climate change, you're still just listening to people who don't really know what they're talking about (except for maybe the occasional "scientist" in the news. But how do you know the guy's even legitimate?).
You don't know the FACTS. I don't know the facts. Al Gore doesn't know the facts. Fox news doesn't know the facts. No news agency knows the facts, conservative or liberal.
The ONLY people who really know any FACTS are the ones that have spent a great deal of their lives trying to uncover them. It takes 4 years to get an undergraduate degree in a scientific discipline at most universities. Many more to get a doctorate degree, and many more to become a leading researcher in a given field. These people spend their whole lives studying some aspect of nature. Climatologists spend their lives studying the climate. They are the ones that know the FACTS, not any of you, or me.

Someone who spends their life studying something like the climate is not in it for the money.. Climatologists don't make a huge amount of money. (believe it or not, but the large research grants actually go to pay for the expensive research that goes on, such as a trip to Antarctica to drill for ice cores, not in the pockets of the scientists. In addition, it's not exactly a cushy job. Science is very intensive work, regardless of discipline. So it's not unreasonable to think that these people have a passion to understand the FACTS of the climate. Assuming that I haven't made any logical errors here... why would they make all this shit up about climate change. What is there to gain? Apparently 98% of climatologists say that climate change (in the form of a warming trend) is a FACT. And humans bare the majority of the blame
I am willing to believe that some proportion of scientists are unscrupulous enough to lie to the world in order to make some money... but 98%?
1 or 2% seems more plausible... ohh wait, that's the proportion that is still debating it.
(well I'm not 100% sure that the proportion is 98% as I didn't research it myself or obtain it from a primary source. But I am sure that the VAST MAGORITY of climatologists hold the "there is no debate" view.. look up the number yourself before tying to dispute my point here.)

Now, I'm going to repeat myself one more time...
THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO KNOW THE FACTS ARE CLIMATOLOGISTS!
Climate policy should be based on what the majority of climatologists say, not on the OPINIONS of conservatives, liberals or anyone else who pretends to know the FACTS. (I would say this seems pretty reasonable, assuming that less than 50% of climatologists are lying).

Shouldn't there, at the bare minimum, be proof that this nut actually listened to the radio before we go off assuming that talk radio is somehow culpable here? Instead what we see is:

1) A family member of the victims makes claims about the issue being on talk radio and how that made Adkisson drive 10 miles out of his way (10 miles ain't exactly "out of the way" in my book) to shoot up the church, and;

2) Detweiler's assumption that 1) is right.

But 1) hasn't been proven. One can certainly hate liberals (or conservatives, or anyone else) without listening to the radio. I grew up in a family where one side hated all Republicans and the other side hated all Democrats--I never would have had to listen to the radio when I had Aunt Jenny.

As a result, Detweiler (and others who seek to implicate talk radio in this somehow) is jumping to conclusions and demonstrating bias rather than careful thinking.

In fact you are right to say that some historical narrations are only ONE story. The bible was not meant to tell us so many things that happened in the time in which the events in the biblical narrations occured. Acknowledging that history was written by victors does not necessarily makes one a Postmodernist (PoMo). Any sincere historian will inevitably believe that often time than not, the affairs of time were put down to paper to the compliment of triumphant rulers/nations/parties.

Your so-called "balanced approach" however is PoMo. If the you believed in the "death of the author" of the PoMo, the Quran, then cannot make much sense to you literally. You'll have to read between the lines and possibly believe that Muhammad s.a.w (or, horror of horrors, the angel of God)did not consciously meant what was written, but there were subconsciously other meanings which the modern (or postmoder..hehehehe) readers have to dig up for themselves. Is that consistent with Islamic theology? It may not be, but embracing BOTH contradicting philosophies is definitely consistent with PoModernism.

While on the other hand, I agree that there are certain ideas in PoModernism that can be very attractive and I do absorb some of these, I am very careful not too fall into the pit of PoModernism, one vital one being their disillusionment of modernism and thereafter their radical response against it.

Journalisterna idag är oftast fega och man skyller på kravet om opartiskhet, vilket jag tycker är märkligt. Utifrån ditt perspektiv är det säkert ett problem, att pöbeln kommer till tals i känsliga frågor. Vi bloggare som står bakom den sk aktionen har använt oss av helt lagliga och fredliga metoder för att väcka opinion. Till skillnad från etablerade medier så ser spelplanen helt annorlunda ut vad gäller att väcka opinion. Vi har ingenting gratis på samma sätt. Medier som DN SvD Aftonbladet mfl har som bekant en enorm makt, och man har helt och fullt möjligheten att bestämma vilken information majoriteten av medborgarna skall få ta del av. En möjlighet som bloggare inta har på samma sätt. Att göra ett flertal, korta inlägg i en fråga genererar fler läsare på en blogg, vilket i sin tur genererar ett visst genomslag i en opinion, men som sagt vi spelar inte alls i samma divission.

Jag förstår vad du säger, men jag kan inte riktigt sympatisera i en del frågor.

Att sju bloggare sätter agendan för en dag känns som ett utmärkt exempel på direktdemokrati och ett korrekt användande av "bloggosfären" som du kallar det.

Att det sen finns 25000+ bloggare i blogg-Sverige som inte inser makten med nyckelord är inte direkt mitt problem...

Vi har tillsammans hittat en fråga att diskutera, och försöker driva den med de spelregler som finns.

De hoge prijzen worden o.a. veroorzaakt door toenemende tekorten, maar je moet wel onthouden dat de productiekosten van een vat olie nog steeds rond de 15 dollar schommelen. De prijs kan dus nog steeds zakken, maar dat zegt niets over te korten of niet.

Favourite moment has to be the odd concatenation of Budgie, Uriah Heep and Sha Na Na onto the same bill. Half-arsed heavy rock and rock 'n' roll revivalist glam: the problems could have been forseen. Barracking between the two factions (I was on the rock 'n' roll side) culminated in the guitarist from Uriah Heep getting hit in the balls with an orange as he essayed a guitar solo. We wept...

The town hall is a fount of such memories. Posing, Amen Corner style as a sax section behind the completely unaware Comus. Seeing Tony Iommi do the 'you're my best mate you are' routine to Rory Gallagher. Watching Robert Plant being ejected from the stage at Derek and the Dominoes by a hilariously unaware American roadie....

I like the sandcaster idea, and have an addition to it, it for a portion of time would leave a cloud in space that destroys missiles as you say, how about flying through this would also have a dirt splatter on windshield effect, like sprinkles or splatters, so it slightly alteres your vision as one would expect from a cloud of "dirt". This gives us a second use and that is drop this cloud on a close pursuer and evade while his vision is blurred, a nice trick to master!

So, generally speaking... what do you suggest is the "real" Christian test. Doctrine can be interpreted many different ways - that doesn't seem to be a great test. Jesus never wrote a passage in the bible, thus, you have nothing to suggest that someone isn't acting as Jesus wanted them to. Matt, by all means, show everyone how to test a Christian to see if they are real or fake, thanks.

Both Brian and Guy make serious points about the new world of blogs and bloggers, but the most serious point lies in the undertone. There may be way too many blogs out there and distinguishing the wheat from the chaff has become a serious issue.

In the old days, if I had a press release, I could, with utmost certainty, send it out to key editors and reporters at key publications, then send it out on the wire to hit the rest of the world.

Nowadays, publications are folding into websites and writers are proliferating across the spectrum. They are also becoming omniscient and in many ways omnipotent holders of opinions that they may have no right to hold. By no right I mean, based on their background, education and development, they may not be qualified to hold those opinions.

So now we have established people in specific areas of expertise trading their reputations openly on their blogsites as they jump into places where we are surprised to see them.

How should we treat those reporters? Probably the same way a sportswriter would treat Barry Bonds if he appeared in the US goal during the world cup, with derision and amusement.

But I cannot do that because that figure carries a lot of weight in his real world. So we ignore the off base pundit and move on, while losing respect for the writer.

My point is that bloggers are also on notice to maintain their credibility within their arenas and venture carefully into other arenas. In Rome, Christians wandered at their own peril where Lions roared. So be it for Bloggers.

Social Media is about people. This mess we have is sadly being populated by self proclaimed experts who have been on line since 2003! OMG. First of all you are not an expert over night. And if I want an expert it better have PhD behind the name or I address them as counsellor. Oh and just cause you are a professional and or Doctor - does not mean I blindly listen.

I listen. I challenge and only a few get to be trusted advisors.

The idea that someone can profess to know anything about this stuff is laughable.

Yhah I found it interesting but not Informative actually...It raised more questions in my mind than it answered... Does MYSQL store char(2) and Vchar(s) as BLOBS... or are blobs just vchars in mysql... hmmm Bags not debugging or maintaining a 16,777,216 long SQL statement.. What about transactions, dirty reads etc.. what about administration - how easily maintained..... scalability... gee the list could go on ... of the issues really needing coverage...

It's hard to think of what this defense would look like without Al in the middle. Honestly, I don't know how you replace a defensive leader who is for sure a Top 5 player at his position, if not Top 3. You could argue that Lynch or Bailey are just as valuable as "coaches" on the field, but Al Wilson has been and still is the emotional leader of this defense. Let's hope they can find a way to keep him.

George Fredrickson's "The Inner Civil War: Northern Intellectuals and the Crisis of the Union" includes some discussion of religion in the North. It is old, but my in opinion nothing has surpassed it in terms of an intellectual history of the Civil War. Anne Rose's "Victorian America and the Civil War" also includes a chapter on the changing meaning and experiences of religion to the Victorian generation. Richard Carwardine's "Lincoln: A Life of Purpose and Power" does an excellent job of describing Lincoln's views on religion and how Northern Protestant evangelicals help to shape the Republican party and the Civil War. For religion in the South and sectionalism, James Fuller's "Chaplain to the Confederacy: Bishop Basil Manly and Baptist Life in the Old South" is worth a look. Fox-Genovese and Genovese mention Rev. Stephen Elliott of Georgia. His fire-eating sermons are interesting and worth going through the effort to find.

Of course the swastika is inextricably linked to Nazi ideology - it was the banner of the Nazi party first, then later the emblem of Germany. This accounts for some of the differences between the Swastika and the Confederate flag in popular memory. The Swastika was always associated with an explicit set of political and ideological goals in a way the Confederate flag never was. Coski details the somewhat ambiguous nature of the Confederate battle-flag in his book.

Is there any basis for your comparison between Nazi Germany and the Confederacy other than the fact that you find both regimes morally repugnant? There is a great difference in scale between Auschwitz and Andersonville and Gettysburg versus Barbarossa. The greater scale of the Nazi project lies with its extremely different ideology. It seems to me that you are using this comparison simply to generate an emotional reaction.

What was "Confederate ideology"? There is no coherent answer to this question in the same way that one can answer the question what was "Nazi ideology." The Confederate battle-flag is a much more ambiguous symbol than the Swastika.

Comparisons are worthwhile when they provide new ways of approaching the topic. Rather than using the comparison for insight, you are using it to interject loaded terminology. Your reasoning is that the Confederacy and Nazis were racist, their flags are symbols of their ideology, so the flags are symbols of racism. This is true, but does it help us understand anything or does it obscure things? Put another way, why didn't you compare the Confederate battle-flag to the Union Jack, the Japanese rising-sun flag, or the US flag for that matter?

I am not disagreeing about the Confederate battle-flag having racist connotations, or that slavery was central to the Confederacy, but rather jumping immediately to Nazis is needlessly provocative (and inaccurate).

Yes, the actual percentage rate is lower for US deaths from the common flu. However, don't forget that most cases of swine-flu have not been in the United States. The US had its first swine-flu death today, and that was to a woman living near the US-Mexico border that had many pre-existing medical conditions. The rate of mortality is probably higher for individuals that live in less developed nations.

I agree that the swine-flu is not as serious as people are making it out to be. Just don't use US statistics and compare them to global statistics. It's bad reasoning.

It isn't quite that simple. I don't quite understand what 'reducing pressure on the limited number of cork trees' means. They are cropped every 9 years and can't be done more frequently. Most cork comes from Portugal. Cork growers are having problems because wine is increasingly using plastic corks. While it is fine to recycle corks, you should be concerned about plastic corks because they are a) made from plastic and b) a substantial reduction in cork sales could mean a massive change to the Portuguese countryside and possibly also to endangered species like the lynx.

I tried the whole driving the speed limit thing for a full tank of gas to see if it really made a difference. Besides the indiginity of constantly being passed from all sides, I saw no change in the fuel economy in my car. While it was highly unscientific test, I was not impressed with the results.

Needless to say, I'm back to driving over the limit, as I am now going with the flow of traffic. Unlike when I was in Chicago, going over the limit here is only 5-10, not 20+.

Nascar, like most professional racing series, uses flexible fuel tanks called fuel cells that are less likely to puncture in a crash that a rigid tank. This is essentially a bag that holds gasoline and has no relation to electric fuel cells.

The issue at hand is the size of the fuel cell, because a different size cell will require more/fewer pit stops per race, affecting strategy.

The "car of tomorrow" moniker is misleading, but remember that they mean tomorrow by nascar standards -- they're not even switching to unleaded fuel until 2008.

The correct response to this problem is to add (or require by law) mandatory pollution control devices.

Adding a catalytic converter would be a good option, but as Ben I, suggests, they rob an engine of significant power.

Environmental Control Corporation has developed a line of 'catalytic mufflers' that drastically reduce the amount of pollution emitted from small engines.

Of course, a natural "lawnmover" consisting of a goat is good suggestion too, just not something everyone can do.

Trains may be more efficient, but, for the same reason most people don't take the train on holiday (never runs when or where you want, limited flexibility, a whole lot of hassle and not even really cheaper unless you're sending coal or concrete blocks), trucks are going to continue being the preferred industrial transport method. Trains trump canals, highways trump trains. Just-in-time manufacturing complicates it even further.

i live in sf bay area and we have pedestrians getting killed all the time - i presume most of them were not blind. i suspect that most of them get killed because they don't hear our electric buses coming - they're so quiet, it's almost unbelievable.

not sure if any study has actually been done.

so, oddly enough, i think blind people might be less susceptible to electric bus attack than sighted people - just because blind people have more sensitive/nuanced hearing and would still be able to hear the tires of a relatively-quiet electric bus on the pavement.

This theory would be true if it weren't for the sheer number of people that will demand housing everywhere in the future. Yes, current residential construction is garbage (it's a little better where I am in South Florida because of building codes designed to better withstand hurricanes), but with the bling-bling, look-at-me culture that is fostered in today's USA, I highly doubt McMansions will fall out of use. They may devalue, but that will only make them attainable to a slightly lower income bracket. And in those cases, I wouldn't doubt that multiple families might live in big houses, but I can't wait for all the news about the messes created by those arrangements...and the collections of 20 cars parked in the front yard.

Until someone either puts a desert conveniently close to New York or magically makes electrical resistance disappear, 70% of the US won't be able to use the electricity generated in the desert.

I think if a solar-thermal plant were producing very inexpensive electricity that could be used to power homes, cars, and industry, a lot of people would move to be closer to it. Think of it - cheap power draws business, businesses create jobs, people move to where jobs are, voila. I have no idea why Nevada, Arizona, Wyoming, etc. etc. are not all over this - perfect way to attract business and residents.

They could be build and operate only, due to heavy subsidization.

It seems to me the best thing about a small fridge is that it forces you to consider what refrigeratable things you are going to buy. In a Costco/Sam's Club society, you can't help but fill an enormous fridge and then be seduced into a gluttonous lifestyle, not to mention the pure hedonistic joy of the energy pig door icemaker. I think that I, personally, would save significant amounts of money, eat better and reduce my carbon footprint (not to mention expanding wardrobes) if I had a tiny fridge like Christine's energy efficiency be damned. There are other ways of reducing the environmental cost of games than making the carton and all the playing pieces from recycled materials.

Reducing consumption and reusing objects should come first, and could have as much impact as recycling.

For example, anyone who already has a boardgame likely has a few dice and counters. You can only play one game at a time, so why not share the same pawns, counters, dice etc between all the games you own?

You can also reduce consumption by eschewing photo-quality printing, and cutting down on packaging by shipping in envelopes, not boxes. (That's easier if you can reduce the number of game components by sharing or reusing.)

One of my favorite games companies following this route is Cheapass Games: www.cheapass.com.</p>

They also offer downloadable PDFs of some games, as a previous comment suggested, but chances are that they can make the game "greener" than we can, even without using recycled materials.

Home ink-jet printers aren't particularly eco-friendly. Unless they charter a private jet to deliver it, their distribution might be greener too: All those servers, routers, phone lines and PCs used to store and transmit data over the Internet have an environmental impact too. And if they can print on a single large sheet of durable, recycled card to make a solid, durable , that's greener than you printing on four sheets of unrecycled paper and taping them together to make a fragile game that you'll throw away or reprint after a couple of months.

Because I teach in a woide variety of situations (ESL/ESP), I would have to podcasts.They are only limited by your and your students imaginations. (Mine is more limited than that of the students LOL)
It is a great tool to encourage speaking particularly in a EFL environment that is often treated as ESL.

lift weights, martial arts, work on an imovie (or make one with my kids)

It is really sad and funny how all of you flatter yourselves with your deluted thoughts and schemes. Its quite confirming to see truth in action with most of you, when it was said that people will believe anything as long as its not in the bible. Or how Hittler put it"it's harder to get people to believe a little lie but much easier to get them to believe a big one."

Can I ask you to ask yourselves four great questions?

1. Who am I? (and what am I worth?)

2. Where did I come from?

3. Why am I here?

4. Where am I going when I die?

How do you answer these questions?

Heres another challenging thought, do you all realize you've been brain washed by the devil?

Like for instance the word "evolution" has many meanings, only one of which is scientific.
1. Cosmic evolution: the origin of time, space and matter, i.e. Big bang.
2. Chemical evolution: the origin of higher elements from hydrogen.
How did we get all of these other elements? you expect me to believe we got iron from hydrogen?
3. Stellar and planetary evolution: Origin of stars and planets. No one has ever seen a star form.
4. Organic evolution. Origin of life.
5. Macro evolution:Changing from one kind into another. No one has ever seen a dog produce a non-dog.
6. Micro evolution. Variations within the kinds. Only this one has been observed. The other five are purely religious, a belief in something completely made up by man to comfort him in his sin. All you can give is examples of #6 which there's no arguement about it, it happens, but don't emply that that is some how magically evidence for the other five. It's not, it's completely made up to trick you into believing there is no God. And the bible says "He that says there is no God is a fool." and I totally agree and sadly so should you if you were only willing to admitt that your the decieved ones and the Christians who are truly born again and know God personally are right and you hate that fact don't you? In any case you continue to dicieve yourselves that there is no God and I'll kindly continue to remind you that there is and He knows every thought and deed we all have done. I have a great story of someone alive today who has seen God do something rather miraculous mabey I'll share it with you next time. If anyone believes me or the testimony. I'll be shocked but crazier things have happened. God bless you all and hope the temp is just right when you fall. :)

I agree FAS lost it's love but mainly because the financials are less volatile now. Remember when C and BAC would run 10% in a day?

There was an ETN that was to be launched by the CBOE that was based on the Put Write index (PUT). They were looking to launch last spring but it never listed yet. The symbol was to be XPT. I have not heard anything about it in a while however.

Two points:

First, I think this an issue where African-Americans and whites differ, i.e., the role of politics in the church. I am white and frankly cringe when I hear too much political bias coming from the pulpit. Whereas when I was down at Rev. Meeks' church he had a candidate for office speak that Sunday.

Second, I like the idea suggested above regarding a leave of absence if a pastor runs for office. As a proud Bible-thumper myself, I think the gospel message is constantly undermined by political bias, particularly this supposed tie between evangelical Christians and the GOP. I attend a large megachurch in the northwest 'burbs and our senior pastor was part of this group that Karl Rove was reaching out to and inviting to the White House. And then we had to hear the Bush party line every Sunday and chatter about the tone at the White House immediately before the '04 election.

Sadly, Obama has promised to prohibit the use of medical underwriting to adjust premium rates depending on the underlying risk of the insured population, and he has also promised to prohibit any insurance plan from preventing a smoker from getting in on a "non-smoker" plan. What this means is that everyone within a health plan regardless of pre-existing conditions or lifestyle habits will pay the exact same premium as anyone else in that plan. The healthy, health-responsible 25 year old will pay as much as a sick 50 year old smoker.

It's all a part of his end game to socialize healthcare.

I think the person was inquiring about the Nursing Surgeon degree, where the nurse, after an undergraduate degree and two year masters degree, is able to manage and perform "straightforward" surgical cases, including appendectomies, cholecystectomies, LASIK, craniotomies, et cetera, all without physician supervision. The degree is called C.R.N.S.: Certified Registered Nursing Surgeon.

If they think they can replace primary care physicians with two years of training, they surely can do the same with surgery, right?

The government became too involved in the economy when the Federal Reserve lowered interest rates to abnormally low levels. The government caused the bubble through this policy.

Now, the government wants to get even more involved in the economy by pumping 700billion inflated dollars in order to prop up the housing bubble and rescue companies that profited from such bubble?

Wordslinger has a good point - put the Cubs on the Southside with a higher capacity and see how many fans follow. It would give the organization a good look at just how the fans support the team. If they can put 45k in there on a regular basis than the team could do a lot to shed the idea that it's a fanbase that supports the ballpark over the club. If they fall short, then they show just how valuable the stadium is.

Seeing how consolidation just inside the radio industry is destroying the quality and service of the industry as more and more independent owners disappear, I tend to stand against relaxing restrictions such as this.

That said, WGN Radio is absolutely the height and quality of radio from both a service and entertainment standpoint. (No I don't work for them, but I work in radio and know good when I hear it.) Tribune understands how to run a radio station, and the idea that they would have to sell off 720 to another owner - possibly Clear Channel or CBS - is frightening. Whatever the verdict, Trib must keep its clause.

Yeah, nice review. I am incredibly anti-Bush yet I agree with a fair few of your points.

However, I'm a believer of 'the ends DO NOT justify the means' and hence bombing the citizens of Iraq to save them is just unacceptable. Be fair, remember the news before the war. The main point for allowing U.S citizens to legally murder other people (and accidently their allies on occasion) was the threat of WMDs. Bush has been utterly and completely caught out on this one. Either he lied to everone or was incredibly wrong. I think he lied, I guess you believe it was an intelligence failure. However, failures of that magnitude are not acceptable in the most powerful man in the world. You'd get fired in any normal job!

Sorry, I'm ranting and getting off the point. Which is please don't vote for Bush. Most of the Americans I've meet have been very nice and honest people. Thanks to Bush's decisions, the number of people in the world who hate and even want to kill people in the U.S has grown exponentially. Whether Bush's motives were pure (the were not, I am certain, but we all have our opinions :) is irrelavent. His policies have killed thousands and turned whole nations against him. This is not the way to run a country.

I hope you can see my (admittedly anti-Republican) viewpoint enough to save your support for a more worthy Republican leader.

BTW don't even get me started on the Kyoto Protocol. We're talking millions of deaths because of that one.

be very careful how you say things to the paper and tv reporters.

from previous experience they will cut and misquote your comments if they want to.

you may be very PRO something and they can make you look very NEGATIVE.

I'm sorry to hear you struggle with your wieght. And blaming it on religion is an enteresting way of dealing with it. I'm unclear on how this thing works. Will it cluster the blades into one powerful system, which can then be sliced up into vm's, or will each individual blade be able to be sliced up into vm's? Or will both be available?

And yet. There are technical decisions that promote and kill a sense of community. Imagine removing the catbox from e2 or adding one to wikipedia. Imagine that writeups could have conversations like this take place beneth them.

And what if those conversations were threaded? Unthreaded? Moderated? Slashdot-like? What if we did the same to wikipedia? What about a livejournal with no comment functionality? What about a flickr with one?

All of these have implications. They determine who will stay and who will go and how often people will check back. Slashdot emails you when someone replies to your comment, but you have to go to /. to read what they said.

What structures promote good factual technical discussions? Which ones promote creative works? Which ones promote community and keep people coming back?

I would call the sandbox a "webserver" and the application the "web".

I think the argument above has a lot to do with why things like flickr and del.icio.us and amazon are really taking off. When you make your services easy to parse, people will use them, and if people use and don't abuse them, then they'll tend to drive business your way.

Aha! Write a script that will translate their webpages into RSS, and then they can be podcasts! Then people can transparently interface with the Internet Archive via iTunes or any other podcast capable thing.

That would ROCK. Unless people were listenting to non-rock music, then it might rap, hiphop, salsa, oldies, or swing....

The issue is that type checking is like unit tests you get for free! Whether people are test-infected or not, it's still nice to be assured that at no point are you ever going to do an operation that is impermissible. The entirety of academia is completely sold on type-theory, and it does seem to provide benefits in practice as well, but there's a whole set of bondage-and-discipline and waterfall design practices implicit in their approach.

I'm proposing that we steal their good ideas (type theory) but get rid of the languages that force you to do a big design up front by refusing to run code that only 50% works.

I'd like the benefits of SML and Haskell typing, combined with the loosey-goosey "code it up right now and then refine each level as you go" style of Python and Perl and Ruby and Lisp. This is the best way I can think of getting those.

Unit tests are nice, and they help a lot, but guarantees about code that are backed up by theory are really nice as well. If we could combine rapid application development and unit tests with strong typing, then I think it could be a huge win.

The way I tend to develop systems is I write a halfass hack, and then I extend and change and refactor it into something even biugger and better. So my ideas start out wispy and thin, but as I go they get more and more concrete. A nice type system could really be a helpful solidifier for that concrete, as long as it didn't force me to pour concrete for my first pass through the problem.

Right - we'd need some sort of early binding semantics that exactly matched the late-binding semantics.

The system I'm also envisioning, would, for each chunk of code, spit out 'known to break', 'known to be safe', 'maybe safe, depending on X', or 'uncheckable'.

Also, while I really like late binding and Alan Kay's ideas, systems tend to ossify and harden over time. They get too many dependencies to be effectively changeable. So, in reflection of this fact, it would be nice if we could harden the underlying code via type safety guarantees.

But for system development, late binding and loosey-goosey types are where it's at. I just think it's unfortunate that people tend to write their prototypes and their final products in different languages. There could be a big win if we could provide a gradual transition from the development speed and flexibility of the first to the safety of the second.

Type safety provides a bunch of guarantees beyond those provided by unit tests, and does so in a programmatic way that compilers and interpreters can take advantage of. So this gradual transition from the loosey-goosey system should also be a gradual transition from a slower system to a speedier system.

Much like people saying that "speed is a feature - add it in at the end if it's required", I think this should be expanded to "type safety is a feature - add it in at the end if it's required".
